The thing is, bot always plays fast, but human has as much time to use as one wants to. So it's not impossible to win but certainly requires playing good. EDIT: I chuckle at people in chat, Hikaru plays quite fast and manages to play well enough to draw, Finegold here spends time and wins. Nothing to see here folks, Mittens simply plays instantly, even bots are beatable when they are made to do that.

@@jarirepo1172 You do realise that computers also use opponent’s time right? If the computers don’t magically have every single move prepared for in advance, it simply makes the calculations in Ben’s time, thus the moves are made instantly due to the faster calculation speed of computers. Mittens seems to have had a change in ELO since Hikaru played. If that assumption is correct, that’s most likely why Hikaru drew and Ben won. They played different bots, not the fact that the bot played instantly lol.

A friend of mine puts his thumb up to his tooth, and raises his upper lip similar to Ben when he thinks of something deeply, I think we all have unique sorts of facial expessions when doing something intense.

@@TheHigherSpace It's not that he outplayed Mittens, it's that he outplayed Stockfish in the analysis at some points in the game. Stockfish suggests a different move until it sees Bens, then it agrees with Ben and changes it's mind. He played this entire game near perfect and it's not surprising he won considering this fact when other top GMs have been lucky to get draws.

The queen and knight vs two rooks and bishop middlegame was balanced or even a bit better for black (at least until black lost a pawn). With multiple pieces on the board, a queen is better than two rooks; with a single pair of pieces for each side it depends. After white gained a pawn, I don't know; I feel that white is narrowly winning but it's tricky with the queen and knight playing tricks.

At 8:38 instead of moving the queen id have sacrificed the knight in a check. White pawn takes i take open up the kings file. If the rook makes the same move to c1 unstoppable mate. Queen checks king if he moves to the corner the pawn mates if the king tries to hide behind the pawn queen to g2 check. King to e1 queen to g1. King sacrifices the pawn to protect the rook moving to d2. Queen to f2 check and captured pawn. The rook is free to take and g1 is covered on blacks king file so no checking out of it. Any counter arguments with my logic would be appreciated. Im 1800 in chess puzzles.

I mean, every chess player has an ego and Ben has shown his many times. I never understand the point of comments like yours, because not only are they factually untrue, but they do nothing but drive needless divisiveness and bitterness. I'd say what you are perceiving as arrogance is more so confidence on display. You can have personal preferences for which streamer you enjoy more, but I never understand why people choose the ignorant put down route. Magnus is great, Ben is great, hikaru is great, agadmator is great, danya is great, gotham is great, and the list goes on. They are all bringing more eyes to what they love, chess. People can have their personal preferences that don't make any of them worse than one and other.

hey, this has no relation with this video but i guessed that i would have more answer here ! i'm not speaking english very well but i would like to know the meaning of some of ben's jokes, like "putting an h" ? when he pushes the h pawn, also does he says "knife f5?" why is that ? thanks for helping me out

English is not my 1st language too, so I hope I won’t embarrass myself, but Put it in H ( I believe) is from the Simpsons. Homer buys a used foreign car and the dealer tells him to put the transmission in « h » which doesn’t exist. I always assumed knife f5 is just that when someone says Knight f5 you hear Knife f5 and he plays on that but maybe I’m missing something.

​@@MattduCouloir He says "Knife f5" because if you (as white) get your knight safely to f5, you are controlling/pressuring a lot of very important squares in the center/kingside. So it's a powerful move that helps an attack, and knife sounds like knight, hence "Knife f5!" BTW, thanks for the "Put it in H!" explanation. I'm a native English speaker who grew up watching the Simpsons and I didn't get that one.

I am honestly surprised Ben was able to beat Mittens considering Hikaru had losses and draws to it. I guess it's an engine that plays ridiculously well most of the times, and then just blunders. So there is an element of luck whether you get a game where a human GM can beat it.

Mittens is a 3000+ rated engine that is only allowed to take one or two seconds per move. It’s never going to make a random blunder, but it will make positional mistakes because it doesn’t have very long to calculate. The unequal time control is what makes beating mittens possible

Mittens had the difficulty lowered quite a bit to only have an 84% accuracy. The old version was around 95-96% accuracy I think.

it didn't mean english. it just meant the characters. content can't be reviewed/flagged when the characters aren't part of normal ASCII set. so they have to enforce normal lettering, regardless of language/content.

Humans are definitely better at defending obviously lost positions than (the normal) chess engines because the chess engines aren't likely to create complications in a losing position that might make the opponent to slip up but rather just draw the game out. It of course depends on the position but I would rather play a well known theoretical endgame win against a stockfish than against magnus or hikaru.
