Thank you a comprehensive review Chris. With many of us are at times unable to access studios due to working remotely, traveling or may be because good sounding properly treated studios might simply be out of reach and budget; virtual music creation is on the rise. This plugin allows us to mix in many iconic sound studios on any Headphone with Any DAW - Anywhere, Anytime.

Hum that´s interesting !! maybe this is the future for the ones who don't have a access to a treated room like me, or don't have access to a good pair of studio monitores or maybe impossible to mix master in the apartment, but on the other hand for $299 i think its very expensive just for a plugin :) but maybe this could be the game changer for some people since the technology is evolving and everything is done in the box (almost). Thanks for sharing this Chris, and have a nice weekend

I don't have a smart phone (just a dumb one), so I cannot read or generate QR codes, I do not want any "plug-ins" (only freestanding programs), and I am not sending an imprint of my ears to anyone. What good would this thing be to me then, I wonder?

I have a problem with the wildly different prices based on the headphone types. They seem to be pushing some (I think) inferior studio phones. By the way, don't even try using this on the generic headphone preset with Sony MDR-7506's. They remain the headphone from the past of last resort. If you only need some sound in you ears, they, or anything else, will do.

There is a big difference between the DT770 immerse profile vs DT770 sonarworks reference4 profile. I prefer using the Standard Headphone Model 2 with Reference4 Dt770 profile (Reference4 last slot)

It sounds binaural... so, not very convincing psychoacoustic - the ear modelling gimmick made me laugh out loud! I’ve now tried all the plugins claiming to simulate the “sitting in front of speakers” and the only one getting even close is the DearVR Monitor plugin from Plugin Alliance. Here’s a simple test... slowly pan a sound from Left to Right. In Dear VR it never gets fully in your Left ear or Right and you can “feel” the sound moving in front of you. All the others start in Left ear move to center - inside your head - and move to Right ear... so "through your head" not "in front"... in other words binaural and not stereo.
@TonyByte
@TonyByte 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not following this. Binaural sounds are exactly what you seem to be describing as the opposite. Binaural 3D sounds put the sound in front of you, behind you, etc. Stereo does not do that. How would you sit in a virtual studio if you are just listening to a regular stereo signal? Also, the shape of your ear can absolutely make all the difference in the world when hearing 3D sound. It's the reason that there are binaural microphones that have human shaped ears on them or with an entire head. I'm not sure why using an image of your ear seems like a gimmick. If they are using an image of your ear to build a 3D model / algorithm, that's brilliant. Are they doing it well? I don't know, I haven't tried this. However, you are laughing at the very idea. It's not that difficult. You said, "so through your head and not in front. In other words binaural". Huh? Binaural does exactly that. Makes the sound in front, not through your head. I'm not saying any of these plugins are good for mixing. I'm saying your description of binaural seems the opposite of what the point is.
@mixphantom0101
@mixphantom0101 2 жыл бұрын
@@TonyByte It's a matter of semantics... binaural in the correct sense means "two ears" not "3D surround sound". Headphones are "binaural" because they deliver discrete signals to each ear... the phantom image appears in your head and the extremes are only in each ear. We, like the dummy head, can only ever hear a signal from a pair of speakers with both ears... the time and amplitude of the signal determine whether it's left/right/far/near - headphones on their own do not replicate this. My point being that if you pan an element extreme left of right - if it sounds like it's at your ear (like someone whispering) this is not a successful emulation of sitting in a room listening to a pair of speakers. Embody's, and frankly almost all, emulations fail the panning test. The closest I've heard is by DearVR... as it happens they've just released a basic version called "DearVR Mix" - it's not trying to emulate "coloured" environments... but rather a realistic environment that doesn't make you want to change all your EQ settings. The ear shape setup is a gimmick... it's an educated guess at what effect your ear shape will have on the sound - the bottom line is it further colours the sound which takes it yet another degree away from an accurate representation of your mix. Think of it like this... you've got to colour correct a photo in photoshop - would you put blue tinted glasses on to do this? Us humans are very good at adapting, so just playing a ton of your favourite music through your headphones is educating your brain as to what "good" mixes sound like... adding software that supposedly corrects your headphones to 'flat' and then adds a psychoacoustic emulation topped off with a further EQ tweak from a photo of your ear is adding 3 new variables to your "base" understanding of what you're hearing... new perspectives maybe, but a true emulation of sitting in a world class studio? I think not.
@TonyByte
@TonyByte 2 жыл бұрын
@mixPHANTOM I have DeerVR. Correct, when you pan left or right, the sound isn't next to your head; the sound is at a distance which is the point. There are others. I can't imagine a binaural plugin that doesn't have distance panned left or right. 3D is the point but ok, you tried some garbage binaural plugins. Anyway, getting back to relevance, the snake oil guy, White Sea Studio, does an entertaining video on the Waves version of a virtual studio. It matches my conclusion: Impressive 3D effect, with dishonest marketing hype, that I'm not going to use to mix or unnecessarily reference.

@@sekritskworl-sekrit_studios I think there is another product called sonnox roomworks? You just install the plug-in on the master bus,download your headphone profile and it automatically adds an eq curve to get them as flat as possible.
@mixdownonline
@mixdownonline 3 жыл бұрын
Sonarworks is great for that as well, but it doesn't have a profile for the HiX55. @Sekrit Skworl Like I mentioned in the video, the low end is not as present than other headphones. For me, if I have my general mid-range solid, I know my mix will sound good on any system. And I know them well enough now to know if my low end is good or not. If I really need to work on my low end, I have other headphones that I also use that will help with this and of course my sub woofer in my studio that is always bypassed unless I need to monitor the low end.

@@mixdownonline That's fair. So, If I may ask for just a touch more detail: How do you find yourself most often using the Hi-X55's? (I mean do you use it to zero in on transients, to adjust more granular detail within vocals... Just kind of, where are areas where you most frequently find yourself using them?)

VSX knock off really.. I really rate those, game changer for me. Edit: . I think I came across a bit harsh, for people wanting a better headphone mix without forking out a fortune for a complete system and those that already own good cans, this is definitely a great option. I think I'm just really impressed with all the new toys coming out in recent months that are giving people a better mixing experience. I've absolutely fallen in love with my VSX setup so I hope this can work for others too!

A big missing piece from all virtual studio plugins over the last decade has been Personalization. When you sit inside a studio, you are part of the mixing experience in that studio. The sound bounces off your unique ear shape before entering into the brain. You with your unique ear share is part of the medium and for the last decade in all the plugins promising on the Virtual Studio mixing experience that piece about “you with your unique ears” has been missing. Immerse Virtual Studio put this piece in place. Unlike any other plugin, it uses AI to model your unique ear profile in real-time. And that makes all the difference in giving you True and Trusted studio monitoring experience over headphones. Check it out for yourself and let us know of your feedback.
