This is bad ass mate! No need for the caveats either, you are as pro as any mix engineer I know. Everyone has their own way of doing things, no right or wrong! You utterly smashed this, awesome EP, epic production and mixing!!! X

Agreed! Bea needs to stop saying "this is just what I'm doing, I'm no pro"😁 There are no rules. There is nothing that you should or shouldn't do in mixing. The Beatles revolutionized music production by breaking literally every rule. Every pro mixer is also just doing what they're doing. And after all, the video says mix breakdown, not masterclass. In the end it's like CLA said: If it sounds good, it is good.

Personally I enjoy the "real" sound of guitars bleeding into the drum mics. Reminds me of old pre-pro-tools recordings and is perfect for the feel of a live-recorded EP.

Lol at the disclaimer. I feel like all mixing tutorials are just how the person did it, like there's no size fits all, you can't really be wrong if the end result sound good and to your liking. Thanks for making this, I love seeing how different people approach their mix.

Amazing! I am really impressed by how fast you improve your mixing game. It would be super interesting if you could do mix breakdowns every now and then in the future. Maybe after 10 new Tracks another mix breakdown just as a journey to see what has changed in your decision making.

The mixing is top notch. It’s not overly produced or compressed which I really love. I could also feel all the dynamics which gives me a sense of live performance. As a die hard post-rock fan I really dig and enjoy the ep. Very well done mate.

Hey Rabea, Just listened to all three tracks on amazon, awesome.. controlled feedback reminds me on godflesh and I love the tempo changes.. just needs a singer or someone to drone in the background, most of the sing notes are being played,, you could do that! Really Great Job!!!

Hey Rabea! I loved this mix breakdown and saw the live session a lot.. really good stuff, thanks for sharing! I want to ask you a question about eq, I saw that you are using pro q 3 for the guitars but also I noticed that the eq native for the logic pro channels are active too... so I mean, are there the pro q 3 and channels native eq on? how they work together? are they in the same eq cutting low freq? thanks!

😋 came back to watch this again.... Not sure you'll see this question? But I'll ask any ways. The thickening guitar tracks and all the layers of guitars with different tones playing the same thing..... are you playing each one of these guitar tracks individually?

Hi Rabea, Great work on the mix it sounds sick ! I've got a few questions. I see you have a few things going on on the master bus. Did you apply these once you were satisfied with the overall mix or have them from the start and mix from the top-down ? I know Nolly sometimes does this. Did you keep all the master effects before sending it off to be mastered or remove some stuff ? And who mastered the EP ? ^^

@johngiuca99332 жыл бұрын
Hey Rabea. In my opinion the song sounds like it loses energy when the bass is side chained to the kick. I feel the bass is driving that section and loses its momentum during the compression. Love your stuff, Respect

I keep hearing him say „I’m no professional“ Dunno how it could get more 😅😅 I think at a certain level it gets just different not better as peak- quality.

This is great, thank you. When you've got this many layers of guitars what's the trick to keeping them from getting mushy?
@RabeaMassaad2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The trick is manage the low end. So I cut a lot out of the guitars so they didn’t get too mushy. Less is more, with gain as well

As an absolute noob with mixing, whats the benefit on using a bus?
@ronikinnunen2982 жыл бұрын
You can do processing for multiple different channels at once without using multiple instances of the same plugin(s). That way you save processing power and it's just neater overall.

Rabea i am interested in your Guitar Bus and routing. Do you track wet with FX (Delay, Reverb) or do you apply them on a seperate Bus? Or maybe both. But on this EP you have this really roomy sound on guitars and since you recorded via Quad Cortex, did you use a Room Reverb on a Bus? It sounds so natural and has no Tail but yet it is so distant on certain parts, especially the intro of Roast Hoast
