Why visual representation of the waveform is important when using clippers [short]

Hey, love your videos. I've had some issues with mastering bad mixes, without really knowing why it sucks. It is almost like the track unfolds in a very different way when you turn up the input knob. So if you have any thoughts about this it would be cool to hear.
