can you not have a another roto footage on top of the comp without it being effected. i was trynna have my subject roto’d look normal but the background i want to be effected by the MxM. clean clear subject dirty film effect on background sorry if i don’t explain it well

You need to update to After Effects CC 2024 24.3 (Latest) and it will fix your issue!

Is it possible to go back and edit the settings after to confirm and create the new comp? Also is there a way to only affect shown layers, so it doesn't apply any background images or other layers like an adjustment layer would?
