Excelente review Sir. I have been around 1911s long enough to estimate that 95% of the malfunctions can be related to Magazines. JHP bullets do have a different ogive shape to them vs Round Ball and require a magazine like the Wilson Combat with an early release point to help that JHP to chamber. I have had the same "nose dive" with Mec-Gar magazine as you experienced in this video....

Great gun, I changed the grips, completely lubed before the first fire, and absolutely no hiccups. Slide was very tight, but got better as the cerakote wore. 9mm, flat, no kick.it's NICE !

In my experience, it has been very hard to find defense ammo that works in a 1911. Best ive found to date is the Hornady flextip. It usually runs those.

Both your videos on Tisas Night Stalker was in my opinion very excellent. Very informative and straight forward to the point. Some 1911's wether Tisas to Kimber are finicky with defense ammo. I have shot the Night Stalker rental at local LGS. Put Remington UMC 230grn fmj flawless. Then 230 grn Speer Gold jhp been sitting in my safe for sometime. No issues. I buy one grips will be changed out immediately. Cleaned immediately and lubbed with Hoppes bc thats all got. But again my brother excellent video.

Another good test is to run some steel and aluminum case ammo. I had a few of the same issues with the Rock Island in the beginning. After a couple hundred rounds and some good cleanings it's running at 100% recently!

I’ve got a Tisas Bantam & a Duty, both in .45. Awesome guns with a couple hundred rounds through both without a hiccup. Little disappointed to see you had issues as I’m thinking about getting a Nightstalker. But for the price…I guess I can handle a 500 rd break-in period.

I have 2 Tisas 1911s in my collection of 18. Both are 9mm's a Stingray and a Nightstalker. This video is a great example of why you need to test your magazines with the ammunition you plan to carry. A malfunction on the range is no big deal, you figure out is it the gun, the ammunition or the magazine. Then you go on from there. Once you are sure you have solved the problem you can carry with confidence, because a malfunction on the street is a BIG DEAL. Oh by the way both the Tisas pistols I currently have were purchased based partially on your videos. And I believe the quality of my 2 Tisas 1911s is equal to any of the other 16, 1911s in my collection including 2 Colts.

I once saw a Rolls Royce being towed. There are no guarantees in life, but I think your odds of getting a good gun from Tisas are very good. I still think my two Tisas 1911's are the nicest 1911's in my collection. Only my 6" Iver Johnson Eagle XL might rival them. I have had occasions to handle a couple of guns from big name Smiths, and yes they were better fitted. But they cost 3 to 4 times what the Tisas cost and I doubt most shooters could notice a difference in shooting them. But if I could afford an Ed Brown or a Wilson Combat, I would probably buy one just to ogle.

I have the nightstalker in 10mm. I've run ball and defensive 10mm, and a ton of .40 short and weak ball ammunition through it with zero issues in reliability. The only thing I did was change the grips until I can get some texture on the stock ones.

Thanks for another great review. Does that gun have a ramped barrel? I’ve heard 1911s prefer ball ammo. It may also just be that particular hollow point shape.
@2Afreedomrange Жыл бұрын
The barrel isn’t ramped and that’s true a lot of 1911s especially older ones do prefer ball ammo.hopefully I can round up a variety of defensive ammo and test it to see if it’s a ammo or mag problem. I’m leaning toward the mag.

The Mecgar mags don’t hold the ammo, jhp, with the tip up so have difficulty feeding. Have had good results with Colt, Wilson Combat mags with metal followers that hold the ammo tips up more than the Mecgars. Compare the loaded mags for tip position and you’ll be convinced.

I would have liked to go back and run a few rounds of the first lots of ammo again and see if they still feed flawlessly or if they are hanging up now. Once in a while, before they break in good, they will hang up a bit when they start to get dirty. Lube them again and they run just fine for a few mags and then start to hang up again. Clean and lube again and they are ok again. This is not uncommon for 150 to 200 rounds and then they smooth out and run just fine.
