88 VFOV is not good. The Vive Pro 2 was generally roasted for having a wide HFOV but narrow VFOV that felt like looking through a mandalorian helmet. Well, according to this the Crystal super is 116H x 88V. The Vive Pro 2 is 116H x 96V. Crystal Super has even narrower VFOV than the Vive Pro 2.
@replacesoundboard10 күн бұрын
I'm actually surprised the Vive Pro 2 got roasted for that reason. Having owned it, I found the VFOV to be quite comfortable. Although, the fact I replaced the stock foam cushion with the official thinner leather cushion probably gave a false impression of bigger FOV by having the lenses sit closer to my eyes.

It's really not. And it's frankly better to hear feedback from people who aren't engineers and will just report what they see. Because so much of the reporting about Pimax products like the Crystal Super includes a lot of handwaving problems away because the person makes assumptions about the underlying engineering and that "this will certainly be fixed in the actual release". Or otherwise excusing it and maybe not even reporting it because of these kinds of assumptions. I want to hear about the condition the product is in _right now._ Not some handwavy assumed future.

I admit: I was a little worried after the first impressions of the other video. I pre-ordered the Super a month ago and unfortunately I read afterwards about the poor quality of the after-sales support. I hope that the product that will arrive at my home is without all those defects and that the after-sales support improves. I don't say quickly like in this case (two days to solve a problem) but not even months like I read around. But to work well does it necessarily need a display port 2.1 or does it get by well with the old display ports? I need to know if I also have to change the graphics card to use it😁
@HeadsetHistorian19 күн бұрын
It doesn't need DP2.1, the bandwidth fits entirely into DP1.4a with DSC no problem, so DP2.1 would provide literally zero benefit whilst also raising the cost a lot (it's also not possible right now as the internal components needed for DP2.1 headsets do not currently exist).

@Capture-the-Dark19 күн бұрын
I just went into the same exact test they have in this booth with my Valve Index and got a vertical of 104 (horizontal of 106). I dropped it down to 88 to see what this would feel like from their point of view at this point in CES. The difference between 88 and 104, just like Sebastian was trying to make a point of, felt like VERY LITTLE difference. Furthermore, its possible it wasn't exactly calibrated correctly. They said they were getting mid 90s, and they advertised 110. I trust they can get it higher than 88, but if they don't I personally felt very very very little difference in my testing. The wider horizonal is where it will feel like a bigger difference for me as I feel like I am in a scuba mask on the index and removing/reducing the side black frame will improve that significantly.

I remember Sebastian's review of the StarVR1, the headset that never came out or was expensive. In that review Sebastian said that there was no distortion like the first pimax headsets. I still dont understand why other companies dont just copy their lenses or profile to get the best FOV without any distortion. With very high resolution and foveated rendering to reduce the generated pixels that arent used. Im really waiting for a better headset with bigger FOV without any compromises for a long time now. I think my Index was still the best headset I had. I already have the Quest 3, but if Index would just replace the panels with high resolution panels and give us the same headset, I would buy it again. Or maybe Pimax finally does that?
@HeadsetHistorian19 күн бұрын
I believe the issue with StarVR is that it required 4 viewports to be rendered so almost no games supported the full FOV, and trying to shift the industry to support such a rendering method is basically impossible. Unfortunately their solution doesn't work as a general purpose option for vr gaming in general. I believe that is the reason tbh. If you get an 8kx today there's essentially no distortions, it has improved massively from back in the day (at least for me anyway, I think it depends on faceshape and sensitivity etc).

@@gizmo104drives7 I had a feeling that I've seen this before, hence my surprise about aspherical lenses, thanks for claryfing. Let's indeed see what kind of pancakes they can make. Micro OLED in VR is very tough to do good optics-wise because panels are too small still, so the sweet spot will likely be as small as on BSB. Somehow I have my doubts that Pimax will outshine every other company at this. Almost ALL the headsets that you complain about Binocular overlap, I've tested and for me are just perfect, no binocular overlap problem, my IPD it's 70mm. I am sure that yours it's around 58 or 60mm. So, you every time that complain about Binocular overlap you must tell YOUR IPD ... So .."For everyone with XXmm IPD ...
