Yes and NO.....because without eye-tracking you are going to need a beefy GPU to keep up with the fps...because 120HZ sound great but this needs a hefty gpu again. And No fans ? I'm sweating already in the fan version...

Fans are for the XR2 cooling, I agree with you that having no eye-tracking is a pain in the ass but it still worth the upgrade if you come from the Reverb G2 like me... Hopefully my 4090 will do a good job 😅

The Light version only has fixed foveated rendering (no eye tracking) and no wide fov swappable lenses. Check the specs carefully, there's a good reason it's half price.

Just like OpenComposite does, its enough for me considering the price. I don't want stand alone features at all, just a Display Port. The provided FOV also coming from the G2 is huge in comparison.

I put a reservation in for the Super QLED, but honestly I am finding it really hard to follow through with it. Many of the "features" of the Crystal still have not been delivered, and instead of working on them as promised, they decided to just make a new headset. The crystal had (and still has) a ton of issues that were not expected when pre-orders came out for it (ie the senseless battery requirement for wired mode). Based on the Crystal launch, I think we can safely say Q4 will not be a thing, and when it does launch most of the features will not be there. But hey, at least amazon already has 44 packs of Crystal Light listed way below Pimax's MSRP ($10), so I guess we have that going for us. (surely not going to end in a cease and desist letter or lawsuit).

Thats why dont go Pimax. Theyre announcing new headsets every 6 months and they dont support their older products. Plus theyre always overpromising and half of the features are just words.

Pre-odering anything tech these days is bound for disappointed. I'd say wait for a year after it's official release for it make sense to purchase the product. I am pretty certain the Crystal Super will be very bare bones when it releases with many of the features still hardlocked due to software implementation. The light however, should be ready to go from the start.

The light and both Super variants look great - but I want both thoroughly reviewed before I make another purchase. Will the head strap on the light be okay? Will both new HMD’s fog without fans. Will the light without dimming look as good as the current Crystal with dimming disabled (or are these different panels). Does the Super have a battery? How’s the battery life? How does it sound without DMAS speakers. Seb, we want to know the details.

@@somerandomperson8282 the only issue i have is i had to buy separate usb powered hub and also everytime i start the headset up i need to disable and then re enable the usb device port through device manager. Actually another issue is that after about 3 hours i need to swap batteries. It's not great because of those things but when actually using it I like it. Wish I waited for the one without the battery though

I like the idea of upgradable lenses and faceplate for the Super That means they can make the same base headset and sell them upgraded versions of the parts for the next 5+ years. It's kind of like how AM4 is for motherboards, but the Crystal Super is that for VR headsets

I'm blown away that they're actually going with 4K per eye micro-oled. That is exactly what they need to be doing. Reduce the size and weight, get 4K per eye micro oled in there and with a wider FoV. While its still big and bulky, this is amazing imo. I've got an immersed Visor on order- but as a general shareable headset, this may well be a good secondary headset (if I have the cash at some point) depending on how heavy the micro-oled version is. Fact of the matter is there is no other alternative for wide FoV 4K per eye micro-oled. So this is a step in the right direction. I only wish they'd be able to reduce the size and weight further, but they are really making big strides towards a better PCVR future here.

Pimax states glass aspheric lenses (QLED version), glass pancake lenses (micro-OLED). Its in their key notes and also on the slides you show at 1:06 at the bottom of the page.

I'm getting the super bundle. Even with the local dimming I doubt you'll have the same darks and no glare as in oled. This way I'll have an optimized headset for day and night flight.

Unless something better turns up in the meantime, I'm planning on pairing a QLED Crystal Super with an NVIDIA RTX 5090 once they are released. It would be good to know how durable/reliable the current Crystal headsets have been, as in what is their MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure).

Technology wise, impressive .. just .. yet another zillino versions of Pimax :) Still I so want to upgrade my Index.. and Pimax seems the best option.. just which one.. and now with 3 more options .. I think I’m gonna stick with my big screen beyond. I tried the pimax crystal for 2 weeks and had tons of issues with it. Too heavy, software issues, didn’t fit my face shape, and customer support was not very helpful. The 4k per eye oled panels are interesting though. But I doubt that my 4080 would be able to run them. 2880x2880 base Crystal already can’t be maxed out with a 4090. I can’t imagine trying to run 4k per eye resolutions…

5000 series Nvidia GPU with the Crystal Super is going to be the best sim racing package. Can’t wait to try it. The only thing that could potentially beat it would be the Varjio passthrough allowing a high definition passthrough of your hands and steering wheel/HOTAS

I never enabled the local dimming on my Crystal. Found it runs better (smoother) without it, and guess I’m not that sensitive to black levels. So personally I wouldn’t pay extra for the local dimming.

Pimax might have finally overcome some of the reasons I've always avoided them with this IF they had included the Lighthouse faceplate and not continued charging crazy money for plastic and sensors and IF they had come out with these options for just a little cheaper. As it is, they're too close the crazy high pricing of the Somnium VR1. What happened to the days (2019) when people thought the state of the art full VR kit (Valve Index) was expensive at $1,000? Money means nothing now? lol Still does to me. I guess we'll see (months from now) how the QC is for these new models.

As from new BSB owner, not gonna change because of size and weight. Still Pimax hits right on spot with light. Light vs Quest3 will be though decision for many. Thats the way they should of make Crystal at beginning. Still i think market will be size shrinking because resolution is beginning to be as good as needed for most applications. My new BSB aint perfect, but it represents future.

I need a G2 replacement. I will probably get the light version. I trialed a Quest 3 on the weekend and I was not impressed with the visuals compared to the G2. I think the Crystal Lite will be more suitable for me (DCS). Whilst the Super looks ambitious, I think PIMAX is crazy for trying to do both QLED and OLED in the one headset. Who knows, they may pull it off. Anyway it sounds like a science experiment I cannot wait for, nor do I have the GPU to drive it. Looks like they are catering for 5090 customers with bottomless wallets in 2025.

There's no eye tracking on the light. You can get 30 fps with a 4090 though.

I love the specs, but after experiencing wireless I think that there is no turning back for me. Pimax needs to do too much to win me over anyway. They need to hire a customer service team and support that team just as much as their techs. Then they need to have one vision and see that through to reality by surprising the world with something big and something well-tested and ready to manufacture. Pimax can become the #1 VR-headset maker just like DJI is #1 for drones. Or, they can continue as they have.

Its %31 lighter than the standard crystal, this bulky design allows the headset to have better fov, sweet spot, and binocular overlap.

Sounds nice. But I will stick with my Quest 3 even though the Quest 3 does not have the larger FOV and has little less resolution. I like the Quest 3 resolution and the nice large sweet spot, and I don't need light house devices for tracking. Most the time I just do SIM racing games and I am sitting down with a wheel controller. I still don't trust Pimax quality and ease of setup of their devices based on past PIMAX VR headsets and reviews from other users - also Amazon reviews. Instead of whipping out so many new products, get one that works well and is easy to use. Plus all their headsets are so big and bulky for my likings. I am pretty sure many people like them and have no problems, but I am hesitant on getting one. I will keep watching your great video reviews on VR to learn more about newer products and your comparison videos. Thanks and take care.

eye tracking is NOT an optional feature for serious VR headsets. I like what Pimax did for the Light, BUT they went too far taking away eye-tracking - thats a hard no for me.

i was getting my card out for the Light version until i saw no eye-tracking (they listed it as positive xd) only true high end PC can handle this without eye-tracking, and even then they will struggle. the fixed thing they are talking about is just blurring the edges all the time, which sucks.

What made Pimax different from all the other companies was FOV, not clarity or features. They seem to focus 1. clairty, 2. features, 3. FOV. They need to understand why the 8K was so popular and get back to chasing human level FOV. They are the Dominos Pizza of the VR market with new silly marketing and hardware strategies with standalone or swappable BS compromises no one asked for. It's not that hard: FOV > Clarity > Features > Release. In that order. Let other companies focus on their own market segments like standalone, compact, lightweight, etc. Stay in your own lane PiMax.

i don't see the point of the interchangeable lenses. like that's the most expensive part of a headset so upgrading won't be that much cheaper. like there is not much stuff in the housing. prob more expensive for the first device u buy even. bc of added manufacturing costs, added material and unnecessary complexity. this just means the company is stuck with the same formfactor for years now and cant shrink it which is I think pretty important in this field success in the future.(I'm not sure if they promised anything to stick with it. this could be another worry)

IDK, maybe the best play here is to wait for the reviews. So many comments everywhere from people who bought the Crystal based on features Pimax promised. Buyers not only found them missing but they were never added and existing problems were never corrected. Now Pimax moved on?These new devices sound very promising, but Pimax does not appear to keep their promises.

It’s not true that problems were not corrected. They actually did a great job improving all the software problems like the lacking tracking algorithms. So here is the hardware revision for a great price. But waiting for reviews is always good.

Yesss, finally!! - a new PCVR headset with decent specs that might be affordable! I wonder how the controllers feels compared to the Q3. I will definitely miss hand tracking, though there isn't any software on PC that takes advantage of it. Hoping one day we can navigate in-game menus (particularly simulators) with hand tracking - plus games like flight simulators where you can toggle switches and press buttons with hand tracking would be out of this world. For now, beggars can't be choosers and I am happy this is coming out

Just sold my 8KX and most of the FOV is basically useless. Also high FOV needs more GPU power than a 4090 can provide if you want decent PPD as well. Clarity is more important and the Crystal Super will need a next gen GPU if you want to use it's full potential.

They are the only HMD maker that can go for high FOV, but only choose 130 degrees.. why. Even 1 pixel stretched from 130-180 degrees is a big deal for immersion.

Just a shame that pimax are a shit company. I tried a Crystal - the headset was cheap and the customer support was horrendous. I will never buy from them again….the bad press is real - they are that bad.

The biggest problem with Pimax is that their app is utter garbage and you'd have to jump through hoops to get it working properly. An amateur company and amateur software that can't be trusted.

Plus chunky and heavy for no reason. It was faileed product like most of their headsets. Now theyre releasing new ones that for 100% will be also halfbaked and forgotten in the next 6 months when theyll announce newer ones.

The constant rise in prices of these VR headsets is greatly coming out of reaching the consumer gaming community. These are only for the rich. A lot of hype and false impression of saving money.
