Funny how the BIGcreen Beyond is the small headset and the Crystal *Light* is huge one 😅 I would've bought the Beyond if it were an all inclusive package like the Crystal light, it's simply too much when we also need base stations and controllers. They both really need a bigger FOV though, we've been stuck in 100-110° since the CV1.

As a simracer. Which is somehow never mentioned. The simplicity of using the Bigscreen. You don't even have to start a tool. You don't have to start the headset. You just start the game. Then sit in your rig. Put on the Bigscreen and you're ready to go. We're not even talking about weight and comfort. I use the Bigscreen without the gasket. Only with a TopstrapMod and a nose adapter. It sits on my nose like a pair of glasses and the TopstrapMod allows the strap to lie on the front of my forehead, taking away any pressure. I also achieve the maximum FOV and have a pretty good e2e. So not like a Quest pro, but never annoying for me. And the customer support is one of the best I've ever had. You have your own channel in Discord with a contact person who responds super quickly. When I think back to Pimax. And I'm from Europe. As an American, it would be a no-brainer for me.

I have an HP Reverb G2. I really wanted to buy a Bigscreen Beyond for a long time, but the need to buy lighthouse stations and controllers made it more difficult to commit. And I probably still would have done it if it weren't for reviewers talking about the glare problem, upscaling to get 90 fps, etc. I heard about the Crystal Light a couple weeks back and pulled the trigger on it. It would really be nice if we could have the same clarity / great lenses / FOV, etc. of Crystal Light - but in a smaller form factor like the Beyond, but for now I'm excited to try Alyx, MSFS, etc with the Crystal Light. In 5 years I'm sure I'll upgrade again. Also probably will be upgrading my Ryzen 5600X / RTX 3080 at the end of the year to 9800X3D / RTX 5090. Gonna need some power for this Crystal Light.

I also have the HP Reverb G2, and the Pimax Crystal Light has more of what I want and less compromises. The sound solution seems good, I can add lighthouse tracking (I already own lighthouses and Index Knuckles and play with a hybrid setup), I don't need to purchases it with controllers (Already have Index Knuckles), so I seriously want a lighthouse based headset. I was originally thinking about the Big Screen Beyond as my only REAL choice in that price range, but it doesn't come with the sound solution (it cost more money), we also don't know how good the quality of said sound solution is yet either. While I think that the Pimax Crystal Light's microphone is a serious step down from the HP Reverb G2's, finding a 3rd party solution will be less troublesome then dealing with the reduced FOV of the Big Screen Beyond. Visuals matter a lot to me not because I want the best, but because my eyes strain less from having better visuals, and I think the Pimax Crystal Light will be a serious step up in most regards.

@@fangornthewise only been using Crystal Light for like a day, and honestly a bit disappointed with it.. you really notice the weight of the thing... the face gasket is really wide and plenty of light comes in the sides. I got frustrated with the motion issues but I assume that's a SteamVR problem that needs fixed. Also not impressed with black levels, though they are fine, comparable to the G2 I guess, but I think after this a headset must be OLED and small like Bigscreen Beyond. Probably buy next version of Bigscreen Beyond or if they come out with a model that has better lenses and higher framerate/bandwidth. I preordered the crystal light, but then cancelled the preorder because I will be traveling a lot this summer and most likely won't be home to receive the order in following weeks/months. first they said I would have to pay "order handling fee" if I wanted to proceed with refund, which is charged by their bank (?). I said the order wasn't even shipped, what handling fee. then they said ok, I'll get refund. they refunded 30 euros (pre-order) only. I asked what's happening with main refund (800+ euros), they said it will take a bit more business days (5-8). it's been 10 days since, and they didn't even initiate refund (via paypal), and they stopped replying to my messages. I've criticized the Pimax Crystal a lot. I always thought their option with batteries and all that mess was unbearable, making it a virtual headset from the past. In the end, I'm waiting for my Pimax Crystal Light, which should arrive in 3 days. It's obviously the best option if you're sticking to PCVR, now that they've removed all those flaws. As for comfort, the Bigscreen is probably better, but don't forget you’ll need to put on an audio headset. This means dealing with the hassle of putting one on and then the other. And it’s either an additional cable for the headset or more batteries, and ears getting quite warm in the cushions... What also stopped me from going for the Bigscreen was the need to scan your face with an iPhone. I think they've lost many customers on this point alone. Combined with visual imperfections, I'm not sure the OLED display makes up for all that.

The audio strap for the Bigscreen Beyond is arriving on the market about the same time the Crystal Light is. And I agree that the need to scan your face with an iPhone is friction in the buying process, but frankly it's not that big of a deal. I had to borrow an iPhone myself. Took 5 minutes. It's annoying but it doesn't really qualify as a barrier compared to other considerations. The display of the Crystal Light is a little better than the Beyond, but the Beyond is better in virtually every other way. So it is not an obvious choice between the two. Depends on what is most important to you.

I did not realize how significant the size difference between them was until I saw them side-by-side here. I’ve not tried either, but I’m heavily leaning toward the Beyond for my next headset (coming from a G2 that’s been for the most part collecting dust because of how uncomfortable it can be at times).

After using Pimax for years and owning multiple of their headsets including the most recent Crystal, I have moved to the Bigscreen Beyond. The Crystal Light is threatening to temp me back. But something that none of these reviews are talking about is Pimax's bad track record for stability problems with their headsets and their bad customer service. The Beyond hasn't put a foot wrong since I got it, and that seems to be the typical experience for this headset. The Beyond's support is also excellent by all accounts. Whereas I think you would be hard pressed to find Pimax owners who haven't experienced frustration getting their headsets to work and stay working. The simplified nature of the Crystal Light suggests this will be better. But still... it's Pimax. These two companies have very different philosophies when it comes to polishing and supporting their current offerings. And it's something buyers should be considering when comparing them.

Will the G2’s hand controllers work with the Cristal light?
@TheXev4 ай бұрын
G2's controllers shouldn't work at all. But the G2's controllers do work with other Windows MR headsets. I tried the first gen WMR controllers on the G2, worked fine, and I also tried the G2 controllers on my Dell Visor, and they work fine as long as they are paired to a dongle!

@alphacompton5 ай бұрын
Sim people and most likely VRChat crowd who want a headset they can wear for many hours in the day, sleep in, play drinking games in etc. I'm honestly in that crowd but there's too many trade off's I'm not ok with. I mostly use a Quest 3 and Index now but I'll be replacing my Index with the Pimax Crystal Light I recently ordered.
@brandoncomer649229 күн бұрын
Me. My VR is limited specifically to sit down sims. I don't care about cables, I don't need controllers, I don't need pass-through, and I only need a single base station for head tracking. I don't care about having a big "sweet spot". I do care about visual clarity (to see small numbers on a cockpit) and I do care about is being able to play VR for more than an hour without having a migraine, a cramp in my neck, and being drenched in sweat.

Pimax does not include taxes...so 729 quid In UK it's 919 quid with taxes. I preordered but think you should include taxes in your prices mentioned
@ilmariylitalo84274 ай бұрын
Taxes vary a lot in different countries and US states, so you just have to do your own calculations as they are impossible to tell if your audience is all over the world. Even EU countries have different VAT % and other customs duties but usually it's the VAT / sales tax that makes a significant bump on the prices.

They don't mention the tax because it's easier to create hype that way. More hype leads to more sales for Pimax and more affiliate income for KZbinrs. There's no reason for any KZbinr who lives outside of the USA and China not to mention taxes. They are in it together to make as much money as they can out of you.

@@Shalashaska111 Have you heard of Display Stream Compression? It can do the full resolution 2880x2880x2x120hz for the same reason the new batch of 4k monitors can all support 4k at 240hz over DP1.4. (The crystal light has an equivalent resolution of 4k per eye, so simply halve the 4k framerate and you're correct on bandwidth requirements. If you want the actual math, it's 3840*2160 [4k] = 2880*2880 [Crystal/Light] = 8 294 400 pixels) More importantly, the DP2.1 offered by AMD that people always run to as a counterargument isn't at full bandwidth, has only a 10% advantage over DP 1.4 with DSC, and the cables that support DP2.1 are only 1 meter long, so even if you want to say that visually lossless DSC doesn't count, there is simply no valid alternative today.

There's an unexpected bonus to that because it looks like 90Hz while only requiring the GPU load of 75Hz. Nobody talks about that, but it's nice!

I've been waiting for over 10 weeks for my beyond and they are saying it will take until the end of august for my batch, so that's another 4 weeks. It's pathetic. I would order a pimax right now if they weren't doing the same crap and it's not even custom fit. It's a joke if you ask me. Don't sell something unless you have it to sell. I just checked on their official site, they estimate "4-6 weeks" but headsets ordered 2 months ago are "expected" to arrive late august. No I don't want to buy something for $800 so I can get it almost half a year later and I don't even care anymore. I honestly don't even know if I want my bigscreen beyond anymore. I have the quest 3 and the index and I absolutely hate both of them, I was trying to wait for VR to get more advanced so I didn't have to deal with total early iteration garbage that is every VR headset ACTUALLY available today. If I get the bigscreen and its crap I will be selling my headsets and shelfing the entire idea of VR for another 10 years minimum.

Yeah, I was blown away by my Rift CV1 one back in the day. Even with the various setup issues having to use the little desktop trackers and such, it was just amazing to experience. But every VR headset I've used since has really disappointed me because the FOV just isn't moving. I've never used a Pimax because they're priced way out of my league and now require a PC that's also far beyond my old setup. I currently have a Quest 3, and it's pretty good, but the FOV is the one thing that stands out as just being so restricting and disappointing. And most VR headsets aren't any better in that regard, unless you want some giant thing on your head that costs a grand and requires a PC that cost three grand and is tethered and so on. So I'm still waiting for that cheap standalone headset that has a much larger FOV. From the time of the CV1 to now, it's starting to feel like an awfully long wait.
