Hi again. Whilst I was searching that video, I came across this and many others to watch. I'm sure I'll find it in time, but there's no rush. I'm always on the look out to learn something new. Thank you again..

Thanks. Helpful. SUBSCRIBED. Anybody that likes a channel, let the adds play, cause skip means zero $ for the creator. I love the fast explaining, not consuming 7 minutes for 1 tip. Great, man.

thanks! quick question. What do you base your thresh holds after? (the gates and compressors mostly. i see -19, -22 ... are those based on input volulme? Like the track is around -20db so you set your threshold around that db?) Thanks again! very helpful
@BetterMixes2 жыл бұрын
So for the gate, I'm really just adjusting the threshold until the gate is opening on all the hits, but not from any of the bleed (or at least as close to that as possible. Sometimes you might get a couple miss-triggers that need to be dealt with). I'm not really paying attention to the number itself, just finding the sweet spot where it's doing its job the best. Kinda the same thing with the compressor. Just lowering the threshold until I'm getting the amount of gain reduction that sounds good to me. There are no real formulas there, unfortunately. You just need to play with it a bit until it's sounding right.

@@BetterMixes thanks so much! i use a loudness meter in my podcast work and i think i was overly focusing on that. again, great help!

Does it work for sampled programed drums ? Ure so talented sir
@BetterMixes4 жыл бұрын
Hey Gabe! Yeah, absolutely, you could totally apply these same ideas to programmed drums. Some things, like the noise gates for instance, probably wouldn't be necessary for programmed drums, but pretty much everything else would be pretty similar!

Quick question! When i record Enable my tracks for drums with pre fader monitoring what should my peaks be? -10 db? Before any plug-ins?
@BetterMixes Жыл бұрын
It's ultimately not super important, as in you don't necessarily have to be exactly spot on any specific number, just not clipping and not super super low. But yeah, around -10ish is totally fine! That'll leave you a fair bit of room incase you/the drummer gets louder during the actual take (which ALWAYS happens!).
