PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME AS BRASS CONTAINS ZINC AND ZINC WILL BOIL AT 907 DEGREES CELSIUS AND ADDING ZINC TO MOLTEN COPPER AT 1100 DEGREES CELSIUS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NOT REALLY THE SMARTEST THING TO DO :)
I decided to mixed up COPPER BRASS and ALUMINIUM into 2 ingots and only quench one of them and see if the mixed combinations of metals in there final ingot form were brittle or not .
I have a PO box address below incase anyone wants to send a letter or something😬👍🏻.

what happened at 0:49 it was the zinc from the brass alloy oxidizing with oxygen from the air because zinc has a relatively low boiling point all you need to do to stop this is to use a flux to prevent oxygen from reaching the zinc like boric acid which can be found in cockroach killer

The small explosions happened because you first melted the bras, which has a higher melting point so when you added the aluminium the brass was too hot and the aluminium melted too fast. Always it is better to start melting metals with the lowest melting point and then add the others by an increasing way

Also, try adding the brass last and keep the heat on JUST until the brass melts, and keep heat on for about 5 to 10 mins. This will keep more of the zinc from burning, and gives a very interesting white gold metal

I had access to an arc welder and other dangerous equipment when i was 6 or 7 and older but i never touched them because i wasnt allowed to. If parents dont watch their kids (like a good bit of parents do in the us) kids can watch this video or one from a different channel, get glimpses of the furnace and whatever materials there can be laying around and when they fire it up suddenly their parent's garage is blown up. We live in an age where if we dont have a warning label on something, somebody, somewhere is going to use said item incorrectly and either seriously injur or kill themselves. Its smart to be saying "Do not try this at home" in a video.

What you have made here is Aluminium Bronze. I think you burnt off the Zinc, that's what the flash was. Most Aluminium Bronze is about 10% Aluminium, yours is 33% I don't know what that will do to it's properties. It's a hard metal and is very resistant to corrosion and oxidising. It's often used in high pressure bushings and seals in industrial equipment.

bigstackD Casting Thank you! Appreciate that you read all your comments!😃 As a small youtuber I understand you. Is extremely different to get attention with auch a specific channel topic. I always have a look at the creator of intresting Videos like yours. I subbed you, to see what will come up in the future.😄 As you probably already saw, I also do a little bit of metal casting. I casted a solid slingshot out of copper. You may like it. Those older videos are in German, however, I am working to translate them using subtiles, as I already did with the new ones. I also want to start with Iron casting using either thermite or my metal foundry. However, I couldn't find a way of mounting my crucible into the oven. For that I need some kind of material which has a higher melting point than iron. Of course it should be as cheap as possible. Can you give me some tips? Because my ofen uses hardwood as a fuel I can't put the crucible at the bottom.🤔
@bigstackD
@bigstackD 6 жыл бұрын
Thats cool mate i haven't seen your videos yet but i did sub to you and ill check em out wen i get some time matey. Not really sure what crucible to use for iron ? if your melting cast iron then a Clay/Graphite crucible would work fine but if your melting pure iron then thats about 300 degrees hotter so that would be scary and i dont think clay/graphite will hold up as well but i have never tried it and i dont think i ever will but goodluck anyway mate and be safe.👍😀
