The CYM(Cyan Yellow Magenta) color wheel is for photography which is the mixing of light and used in color photography. The RBY(Red Blue Yellow) is used in painting or coloring which is the mixing of pigments. The exception to this is color printers. Computers at first use the CYM color wheel because the monitors were light sources. When they started making color printers they had to use the same color wheel CYM. To get black you can print full cyan, full yellow and full magenta, but you wind up with dark brown. For black they had to add black. So printers are CYMK.

I have been painting for a couple of years now and I can say that since I started I am slightly better at color mixing. Despite that, I was still so surprised to see with how many colors you and combinations you ended up having! It makes me want to try and do this at well at some point, just to see how many results I could get. Hi Katie, i just want to thank you for inspiring me to have a go at painting. I did somehow manage to get a 'B' (thats good for me) in art many years ago during my O' level exams, back in good old 1985. Unfortunately, I haven't picked up a paint brush since. Life kind of got in the way. I do the odd pencil drawing every now and then, but that has its limitations and i just feel its time to get brave and use some colours! Hi Katie. I have been painting in watercolour for many years and have enjoyed it but thought I should try some other mediums. I have tried a couple of pictures using Acrylics and to be fair, i have struggled but your videos have given me a lot of help, especially the colour wheels. I slowed down the video like you suggested and it made the speaking sound sooo funny 😂😂😂 this is such useful information. I always would have added black to tone down a colour, never would have thought of using the opposite colour for fear of getting brown. Very clever.
