Very well made hares. Thank you for the lesson! We know of course that the full moon lit world is shades of gray. I have always loved the white bark and branches of sycamore trees in full moon with leaves off of the tree. A mystical mood in still air, full moon and sycamore trees.

Not had any problems with white. Make sure your white is actually white. Flux looks white but fires clear.

I’m so enjoying your videos, I have a question about. I see that your putting a wet brush in your dry powder, my question is does that wet cake up your powders?

Glad to hear it, thanks for watching. The brush is damp rather than wet so no you don't get caking of the powder.

Can you please tell me what a layering mix actually does and why we need it with enamels, I always use CFE..
@FiredGlass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. CFE are perfect and will work with Layering Mix. The different types of powders, layering mix and medium was covered in depth in part 1 of this series which Jill refers to in this video. If you've not seen that it can be found here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJbbdWV8rJmtfpo jump to 14:46 MM:SS it's chaptered in the description below the video so you can just jump straight to that point in the video. In short, layering mix allows you to build up your layers of paint before firing. Without it you can find your previous layers lift off when you try to apply a new layer over the top.
@nancyhigley18352 жыл бұрын
I too use CFE. I just checked their website and there is some helpful information regarding the UGC Layering Mix and CFE enamels. They are compatible, but I am not sure the there is any video on using the layering mix with CFE.

Why does my microwave kiln make lovely shiny glass on the top, but the base is always rough. Thank you for any help you could give.
@FiredGlass2 жыл бұрын
It's more than likely down to the paper you are using underneath your piece. The cheap paper that came with the kiln is bin fodder. Use Thinfire paper and your results will improve.

I’ve read that you need to allow first layer to dry before you can use layering mix, do you find that’s not the case? Thanks
@FiredGlass Жыл бұрын
The first and second layers are mixed 1:1 with layering mix and I allow them to air dry, takes about 30 mins. Subsequent layers can be mixed with medium to produce glazes.

I was wondering what you use for purple? I have the dove enamels, but I struggle to mix a bright purple and can’t buy the purple in the UK. I’m a beginner and recently purchased your downloadable book which is really great. I was also wondering if you are thinking of doing another book on enamels in the future? 😊
@FiredGlass2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carol Purples are not an easy colour to mix with Dove/Rogue unless you are able to get hold of the Magenta. Mixing the red and blue can produce a dull purple so getting the balance right is critical. Sadly magenta is more readily available in the States. I tend to mix any purples that I need with either UGC or Colors for Earth. I use the Vermillian and Sky Blue type colours as they are brighter. Glad the e-book was useful. Yes a enamel one is on the to-do list.

I make my own stencils and would love to use them with enamels. But struggle with enamels that leak through the stencil. Any suggestions please?
@FiredGlass2 жыл бұрын
You could try a thicker mix of paint so it doesn't bleed or run. Alternatively use less and build up the layers. Any overspill can be removed with a toothpick or similar before firing.
@jonesuk1232 жыл бұрын
@@FiredGlass OK thanks. I will give it a go. What should I thicken with? Very grateful for your response. Big thank you

Nice video. I wonder why you British are so keen on showing your nationality with flags on your KZbin channel and British Fused Glass FB groups have something with the UK in the name? Is it something cultural?
@FiredGlass2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lena for watching. We use the union flag on thumbnails to emphasise that we are UK based. Most KZbin channels for fused glass are USA based. We wanted to appeal to our local UK audience in the first instance and the flag was an easy way to do this that's all. Northin cultural at all, in fact it's very rare to see a union flag unless it's a government building or similar. Very rare to see on a private residence.
@lenabeckeus63222 жыл бұрын
I agree. I have to use the Swedish flag for my videos then. Or a viking symbol 😂
