I honestly think you are not on the music creators side if you are not more critical or even neutral to atmos. The financial incentive is also glaring. I am not surprised companies selling speakers, atmos, etc are pushing this, and in turn music "influencers". The reason I am kinda blunt is that I really feel this is NOT GOOD or positive messages for the general music creator, this attempt, because it wont work, and it will cost a lot of people alot of money for no reason. This is blunt feedback, but there is also a bigger picture where big companies wanna top down force this on people.

I personally don't see peoples, listeners, customers buying atmos setup for their house spending a bunch of thousands to listen to their favorite artists. However, I feel ambisonic and binaural gonna be more and more present. It is already used all over the place for video games, and it is accessible by anyone with simple headphones. So that is what I'm building for now. There are tons of people who don't even know there is an Atmos thing in ITune. But giving a great immersive experience with binaural encoding printed in the stereo files don't need anything in the consumer part. It is just an amazing experience. I would move to Atmos for film, not for music. But, if I'm wrong, in the end of the day I will ultimatly make the move because yeah, if I can build an Atmos ready studio with Ik Multimedia monitor I will be happy.

This is the future and hey it's good. I have watched a few videos where more producers / mixers / engineers are dabbling in Atmos. Some were skeptical at first but are embracing this new(ish) format. And this format is not just for film anymore. The future of music is looking real good. Thanks for the awesome video

Listening to this album with Airpods Pro on apple music was actually cool, but I didn't realize how ACTUALLY INSANE is this atmos mix until I got to work in a properly setup 7.1.4 room. Guys, this shit is the future. It was such an incredible experience. At first I was skeptical cause i thought spreading a mix in the space would result in a luck of punch and "heavyness", but it's actually the opposite. Drums and bass got all the space they need in the front and the guitars are actually HUGE when you completely put them to the side. I listened to other atmos mixes and they don't compare to this tho, this was done super tastefully with all the textures and special effects. Just for context I've never been a huge AAL fan, but hearing Red Miso like that made me so excited about music and made me feel like I was 13 again. The current problem is that the technology to hear it properly is still not there. There's an incredible difference from hearing it in binaural compared to a proper setup. Unless we can't nullify this difference the stereo will still be the standard, but as soon as the binaural perception (or some other way of consuming music comes up) becomes loyal to the original product it's game over for stereo.

I had no clue that atmos could be use for music but now that I hear it I'm a true believer and I believe it could really be revolutionary in how music is listened to. Especially if you have someone who really knows how to mix the music.

Those drum tracks are beautifully recorded. It is funny to watch a video about mixing in Atmos on standard stereo headphones. I have AirPods Pro and Atmos is interesting but part of me feels like it's artificial and loses the focus. Could be I'm getting into old fart territory and I like just a good stereo mix. Lol. While Atmos is interesting in theory and fascinating to experience; it'll be a format that lives only in the movie theater (for however long those will last). Just as Quadraphonic in the 70's and 5.1 album remixing in the 90's-00's died as a consumer product this will too. It's unrealistic to expect consumers in a struggling economy or in a thriving one for that matter to buy into a home Atmos system. In the 00's we had remastered 5.1 live mixes of famous bands in the 60's that would run in movie theaters as a "concert experience" didn't manage to stick around due to the lack of interest. Now in a world where the movie theaters are dying and the interest in music has shifted greatly from what it once was, I find it to be just another failing format.

Yeah, totally... I've visited an atmos room and you can't replicate that outside of said room. It's a complete waste of time, money and energy. Apple spatial is horrid. Everything sounds small and distant (and quiet). The coming years will be interesting, but I'm way more excited about vinyl and now cassettes making a comeback! Cheers.

The thing is, you can encode it for binaural, so you can have an approximation on headphones. And while that tech has been around for decades with Ambisonics, the fact that it is open source, made it "not stick" for music that much. With atmos you have Dolby pushing their product, Spotify and Apple music support it over headphones or a multichannel system, so yeah, I think this time it will stick, even if just as a gimmick on streaming services - mainly because it is Dolby pushing it and trying to sell their "proprietary" encoding/decoding, which is basically Ambisonics in disguise
@danymalsound

When bouncing the individual stems from the stereo mix session, were those run through the final mix bus processing that the original song was run through?

Also curious to what LUFS this song is measured at. I played atmos tracks off my iPhone. Gain matched to what the actual levels are of songs in atmos and thus is far beyond -18 LUFS I measured it around-11 LUFS. Peaks at -1 db when folded down.

I wish you would have covered more on the LFE thing, it's one of my major points of confusion when it comes to atmos 😅 If I understand correctly, there's an lfe aux bus in this session, but I don't get it, isn't there an lfe send in the atmos panner?
@ShawnDealey
@ShawnDealey Жыл бұрын
So I have a dedicated aux that feeds the LFE channel of the 7.1.2 bed. I have an eq low passing that output so it’s filter and then send anything I need to the LFE through that aux. I don’t use the LFE send in the panner.

Hot takes, why atmos will fail 1. To me, I don't think it sounds like anything special in earbuds. (And I think we can all agree that 99.99% of consumers will not setup a real atmos room) 2. What's better than a fold down to stereo? An actual stereo mix 3. "Producers and artists will create music with atmos in mind" - refer to point 1, they will probably not have an atmos room, and it will still not be atmos for consumers or themselves 4. "Immersive audio?" - stereo speakers/headphones are "immersive" already, and you can put a stereo mix inside VR or atmos system and have the stereo mix/consert behind you if you have some spatial fx on and turn around. 5. Streaming services will push this and apple push this. How long will they? There is no definitive improvement in the audio and maybe even an degradation because probably there would already be tools for stereo mixing that made it easier to separate sounds and de-mask audio already in use if it was possible for stereo setups. 6. Where are the money coming from? Consumers? Artists? Engineers? Companies simply won't push a dead idea that dont make them money for too long

@@Producelikeapro I feel I already covered that in the post, movies makes most sense, although, I can imagine its still beneficial to keep the music in stereo to have a place for the foley, speaker channel and movie-fx. But I'm not really arguing about movie productions.
