Bruce Swedien basically said compression is for amateurs. He engineered and mixed Thriller. I think for that style and at that time he got a really nice clean sound with his methods. You can't really do modern music without compression and limiting, though.

Bro you made a mayor mistake with the dynamic Sidechain in the filter area. Whereas in order to have the filter work as a side chain function to the Compressor you need to activate the DYN-SC Button. and not the Pre DYN. Thats the reason ones you started wanting to show that trick, your low-end sound completely disappeared. (That is a Mayor mistake in your video tho.) For the rest a very good video in explaining that actually all the tools you need is in a Channelstrip. therefor you can save a lot of processing power of your computer. Although I do want to say that some plugins are just sonically better then others and therefor I would always invest in some real good sounding plugins. (Compressors, Eq's, Saturation plugin) Greetings. Keep up the good work!

I will be doing some experiments with an expander not just on drums also on other instruments any suggestions where and when an expander could be useful for in music Production?
@evanmartin24165 жыл бұрын
I would think about dynamics while producing and give some serious attention to the volume and headroom of your track. Compression and expansion is just automation of volume, so if you wanted your drums as a whole to sound dynamic, you could potentially do that with the faders on the mixer. I hope some of that makes sense, cause in the end all of mixing is just tools that relates to very open ended concepts, so considering those concepts before even getting to the mixing stage of a track could eliminate a problem that would've needed to be solved.
