I really can not thank you enough so one more time thank you ! Lol :) I do have one more question, do you use TD to help prevent browning that occurs from vanilla? A small cautionary tale to anyone out there who - like me - might be using an ordinary bottle top: be sure the bolts or nuts or ball bearings are large enough to notice easily when dispensing the mixture. I used some very small SS acorn nuts just because we already had them. However, I measured the mixture when it was still quite gloopy, and since I didn't have a nice flip-top lid that reduced the size of the bottle opening, one of the nuts escaped into my rapidly thickening batter! I didn't find it until cutting the loaf, when the wire skipped around the tiny nut and left a strange divot in the side of the soap. I'm very lucky this one showed up in the cut, so I'm not giving someone a bar with hardware inside. And of course I had to go through the whole TD mixture to capture and count the remaining nuts, in case more than one was hiding in my soap...yikes, what a mess! But despite a foolish user error, this technique is absolutely awesome - thanks so much for the video, Lisa! ❤️

Hi, Ive just found your tutorials and they are amazing!! Thank you so much. I am still learning all the time. Quick question which is probably a daft one. When using this mix making cold process soap, do you take the amount you use out of the amount of oils in your recipe? Or does the minimal amount of olive oil you are using in your TD mix not make a difference? I’m probably being a bit OCD here but want to ensure I’m using the right amount of everything. Normally if I am mixing a colourant with oils I will take it out of my batter, but if this is pre made then I can’t do that. I wasn’t sure if I should reduce the amount in my recipe and if so by how much as it will be mixed together. Many thanks.

HI, thank you so much for your comment and welcome to my channel, so pleased you like the videos. I adore your videos - so informative! Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge. This one leaves me puzzled, though. You mix 14 tablespoons of oil (which equals 42 teaspoons) with 14 teaspoons of TD, for a total of 56 teaspoons. The mixture is 25% TD (14/56) and 75% oil (42/56). Then you say if you want to add TD to your batter at a rate of 1 teaspoon per pound of oils, measure out 1 tablespoon (which is 3 teaspoons) of your mixture. Since the mixture is 25% TD, that means you're only getting 25% of 3 teaspoons of TD, or 0.75 of a teaspoon (3/4 of a teaspoon). If you want a full teaspoon of TD, don't you need 4 teaspoons of the mixture, not 3? I suppose the difference in TD amount doesn't make much difference in the soap, but my inner math geek is confused.
@IDreamInSoap Жыл бұрын
HI Carol, ooh I completely agree with geeky maths. The reason I didn't worry about it is that with teaspoons/tablespoons which are a volume measurement rather than weight, by the time everything is all mixed in, the volume that the oil took up did not change significantly, therefore it was actually more accurate to just use x3. Overall volume measurements are quite imprecise, but I felt when I measured mine that sticking with x3 was actually closer than x4. I actually do all of my measurements by weight, so when I make mine I weigh the whole mixture and use the weight to get back to the amount of TD I want. I hope this makes sense, but I completely agree with your logic

Hi JoAnn, if you mix with oil, then it will last the shelf life of your oil. I typically mix up enough that will last me a month or so. For water dispersed I think you need to be a bit more careful as water can = bacterial, so if I did use water I would maybe keep the TD in the fridge.

@IDreamInSoap4 жыл бұрын
Hi again Yolanda, I'm very happy you've found my channel too. You can use any light weight oil, I typically use olive oil, but any you use anyway will be fine, I wouldn't use castor oil as it's a bit thick. It doesn't need to be an oil that's in your batter, but as you have that anyway it would make sense to use one of those. I just store mine with my other colourants, so just in a cupboard. It will easily keep for a month of so, I've not kept mine longer than that, but technically up to the expiry date of your oil. I hope this helps, feel free to ask questions as you have the. Keep safe and well. Lisa

Each tablespoons of diluted mixture should colour about 500g of batter (you may need more if you use very yellow oils) so for 100g 2 tablespoon should be fine

Ok thanks a lot

I'm back with more questions. Why do you use a tbsp of the dispersed mixture as opposed to a tsp? I have a vague idea of how to calculate stuff ppo, but I'm not fully sure I've got it right. My understanding is that you would divide the total number of oils you have by whatever unit you use to measure a pound and then multiply that number by the number of tsps you want to use. So if I had 1,000 grams of oil and wanted to add a color with a rate of 2 tsp ppo, I would divide the 1,000 grams by 454 and then multiply that by 2 leaving me with 4.4. Is that the correct way to calculate that? And my last question is can you pre-disperse other colorants in this way or does this only work with titanium dioxide?

Omg this helps so much. New to soap and everything was great until I used TD without checking how to use it and each time my soap went solid without me having time to pour

@@IDreamInSoap it does. I haven’t tried it yet as I have soap coming out my ears for Xmas gifts, but next year I will start and this will be my guide

How long does a batch of TD last when mixed with oil

He, he, thanks Kelley. I did try. I've got a new editing programme now, so hopefully can control the sound better in future

I'm using adobe premier pro, it's a bit of a learning curve but it's great. It's also a bit costly, I'm lucky as I'm in education I get the whole creative cloud suite for a very reduced monthly price, so it makes it worth while for me.

Hello, thanks for the video. I don’t know if you said it but do I have to calculate this oil that is used for the mix in my recipe or is it so less that doesn’t change my receipe ? Thanks for helping
@IDreamInSoap2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karin, It's likely to be a small amount so you don't need to worry about it. If you were doing TD in the whole soap you could blend it directly into your base oils.

Hi Lisa, brilliant video. Do you take into account the oils used in colorants in your total oil weight for a single batch? Or you just add them as extra on top of the total oil weight? Thank you so much, your videos are a blessings....
@IDreamInSoap Жыл бұрын
Hi Binucosoap, when I mix my normal micas I use oils from my batch, so they are accounted for. With the TD the oil is extra, it's always a very small addition of oil and will just increase the superfat a tiny bit.

I accidently ordered water soluable Titanium Dioxide. I usually mix some oil based titanium dioxide with some Almond oil. Can I still use the water soluable Titanium dioxide dissolved in water ? I can't dissolve it oil can I ?

Hello there Lisa,. I truly appreciate your videos and tutorials. They help tremendously! I do have a question and I thought you might be the best person to ask. I was looking into getting the premixed liquid pigment TD by Crafter's Choice and I see that it's TD mixed with glycerin. It has good reviews with no people reporting any negative side effects that I’ve read. What are your thoughts on mixing the TD with glycerin and how it would behave in CP soap? I’ve read glycerin is a humectant and will attract water and increases softness in products. Thank you for any thoughts you have!
@IDreamInSoap2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I've never mixed it with glycerin so unfortunately I can't say how it would behave. Premixed things can be great as long as they stay mixed, if it all seperates out and you gave to keep shaking it you may as well mix your own. Our soaps already have glycerin in them as it's part of the saponification reaction, so adding more wouldn't change them massively, but unless you used a lot it shouldn't baldy affect them either. Sorry, probably not much help

@@IDreamInSoap I was thinking the same thing. Reason being is I have a large jug of glycerin and TD and I'm trying to combat those white speckles in my soap. I would normally use the olive oil, but the price of OO has risen so much recently, and I'd like to save it for my CP soap recipes. Perhaps I will try a small batch and see how it turns out. It it doesn't pan out, I'll likely use your olive oil method since I would prefer not to add additional water into the recipe. Thank you for your thoughts.

I tried this method and it worked great I loved it. But, I had to throw the cup of my Neutra bullet away. I could not get it clean and had a white mess everywhere! Lol How do you clean up the white titanium dioxide off of everything? Did you wipe everything out with towels and then wash them? I was afraid I would mess up my washing machine. 😮
@IDreamInSoap2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pam, I wipe everything off thoroughly with paper towels so that they look almost clean, then wash with the blender cup hot soapy water

To date I have always mixed by hand but I like this idea. I'm concerned about the cleanup though... TD is such a mess! How do you clean your equipment? I have a 'black' sink! ugh Thanks!

Ooh clean up can be a pain, I wipe the blender out really well and then blend some hot water and soap in it to clean. I find making a big batch means that at least you don't need to do it too often

Hi. What's the ratio oil/TD?
@ambreenqureshi591210 ай бұрын
Salam could I stir in the td and oil by hand?
@IDreamInSoap9 ай бұрын
You can, but it's not the best way, using the power blender will make sure you don't get any white spots in your soap. Once you have blended it all together and want to add to your soa p you can stir in by hand, that's what I do
