It's the type of sound that I find very hard to get with typical bass amp sims, I usually have to resort to all sorts of fancy tricks by using a guitar amp sim, using a distortion pedal VST and using a limiter. You pretty much nailed that tone with less plugins. Very cool.

I’ve decided to start recording all the punk rock songs I didn’t get to write during my youth. I don’t have any experience with recording at all. Do I use this to replace the sound of my dry recorded bass guitar track?

This is probably a bit late, but with Punkbass you'd actually create a new bass track from its samples using midi notes. But the Neural DSP Parallax plugin can also be used to process your own recorded dry bass tracks, simulating an amp and cab.
