I don't think you have reacted to any symphonic metal yet. Like the name of the genre implies it is an interesting mix, heavy metal with symphonic elements. Nightwish is one of the best bands, to me the best band, in this genre. With female lead vocals, the 3rd and current one Floor Jansen is very versatile, from operatic to growling if needed. Nightwish is best live! Suggestion: NIGHTWISH - "GHOST LOVE SCORE" Wacken Open Air 2013 (82 000 crowd) Greetings from Finland!

My favorite version of this is his performance at Woodstock. Beatles did this and Joe took it to church. But the background singers didn’t make it due to the huge crowds. This version sounds great with the girls!!!!!! This song was the theme of the original “ The Wonder Years”.

Not sure on the date of this performance but Joe was probably in his mid to late 20s. This is the studio version played over a live performance. He was 25 when he did the studio recording. It's so close you can tell he had this down. Same amazing, soulful performance. He does another video version at Woodstock in '69 but the girls couldn't get there so the band had to use falsettos. His writhing to the music and instruments is captivating and honest. You can't take your eyes off him.

Not sure who made this video, but the music in it is the actual studio version of the song that appears on his debut album. What that means is it not only features Joe's voice, but the talents of Jimmy Page on guitar (Pre- Led Zeppelin) as well as Steve Winwood on keyboards. Two more names you will encounter on your musical journey. Have fun!

This was a Beatles song on the famous Sgt Peppers album from 1967, written for and sung by their drummer Ringo Starr. It was different than this, a straight 4 beat shuffle. Joe turned is song into 3 beat waltz and turned upside down on it's head into something iconic. You are correct about the ladies....One thing about this performance that make sit better than the Woodstock performance are the female back up singers. At Woodstock 1969 they didn't have them, and the guys in the band tried to fill in with silly falsetto voices...everyone was so high they didn't care, but it was silly sounding

This song was originally written and performed by the Beatles and Paul McCartney was quoted as saying "although the Beatles wrote and performed the song and made it popular, Joe Cocker made it an Anthem". And here is, what I believe is a much better performance of the same song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGfWoZ94bMaWjsU

This is great! Please check out the original version by the Beatles, it's very different, but just as great. Listen to the 1st track on the album, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (SPLHCB), and the lead in to this song which is the 2nd, it flows great. Pay special attention to Paul's bass, it's magic. As a bonus, check out the reprise of SPLHCB on side 2 and the lead in to A Day in the Life. Those are the 4 best tracks on the Album (imo) that is widely considered one of the greatest albums of all time.

As others have said, this is probably the best cover of a Beatles song and I agree, and I love the girls backing vocals which imo are just as good as Joe's. In spite of that, I still prefer the original version by The Beatles, it's one of my favorite songs especially when paired with Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and the lead in.

@@jamespenny9482 this is what makes a song great! Two totally different version, each with the same basic chords and lyrics, but completely different experiences! Ringo songs the original. It's 'straight', Ringo is NOT a 'great' singer, and his version is a gentle appeal to the audience inviting us to empathize and help him deliver a sweet unifying message. Joe strikes deep into the heart of personal loneliness and his pathos refuses to be ignored as he calls the audience to scream out their pain of isolation and their joy at bonding in love and friendship.
