@@pilesovinyl Yes! In fact, I was all excited to see your reaction, but after the second note I realized it wasn't the famous Woodstock performance (he's one of those performers, like Chris Stapleton, who you almost always do WAY better choosing the live version) and I stopped watching. I'll come back and watch it after you've reacted to the Woodstock performance, which I'm pretty sure you're going to get hounded into doing by everyone familiar with Joe Cocker, lol. I'm def. coming back to see both, but I'm bummed that your experience will be less that perfect (imno), for having watched this one first...even though I'm betting you'll LOVE it.

As extraordinary as this version is, his performance at Woodstock of this song surpasses it. What Janis Joplin did with Ball and Chain at the Monterey Pop Festival, Joe Cocker did at Woodstock. He's really the male counterpart to Janis.

Joe Cocker was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice & dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. He recorded a few Beatles' songs "With A Little Help From My Friends", "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" & "Something". Other hits were "Up Where We Belong" (a duet with Jennifer Warnes), "Delta Lady", "Darling Be Home Soon", "Cry Me A River", "Feelin' Alright", "The Letter", "You Are So Beautiful" etc.

Joe Cocker was incredible live. At ZZ Top's First Annual BBQ in Austin Texas Joe Cocker, Santana & ZZ Top were the main headliners after a day of great music. Joe Cocker was drunk & high as a kite (along with a whole lot of the crowd in the stadium). Just as Joe started to walk onto the stage he leaned over the side, puked his guts up, swished his mouth out then walked out and sang his heart out.

You must see Joe's live version of "Little Help From My Friends" at Woodstock 1969. Perhaps the greatest Woodstock performance, Joe's raw blues-rock version of "Little Help" was compared to Janis Joplin's "Ball And Chain" at Monterey Pop 1967. Both Janis and Joe sang like their lives depended on it. Janis sang herself "right out of her shoes", and at Woodstock Joe Cocker sings himself "right out of his cowboy boots!" Amazing performance, one of the all time greatest music videos,.

Joe Cocker was such a great singer, when Paul McCartney heard Joe Cocker sing this song, he said "The song is yours, now" you do it better than we do. Another fun song by Joe is "You Can Leave Your Hat On" I love that song and I love how he does this song as well. Joe Cocker doesn't have a bad song so you are safe with anything you listen to of his. No musical journey is complete without exploring the Beatles catalog, so yes, you Should. The Beatles version of this song is a completely different song. It is also great but nothing like this one. I think that it is so sad that in losing radio as our primary source of music, so many of these great performers and songwriters have been forgotten. It is a shame really but the way music is delivered today, you really don't hear much more than what is trending unless you already know what you are searching for.

I’ve been so encouraged by these reaction videos. It’s fun to see a younger generation begin to discover some of the amazing artists and songs that I grew up with. I didn’t really appreciate how great the music was overall at the time because the standard was so high it just seemed normal. I feel bad for younger people who don’t even realize what they’re missing. I’m glad many of these reactors are eager to listen and learn and share their journey with their viewers. Plus, it’s great to hear songs that I haven’t heard or even thought about in decades, and to learn more about the music and artists. I have the luxury of reading comments from others who have done the research or knew more than I did as a kid when these songs were first released. And I can play just about any song whenever I want, as many times as I want, instead of waiting for it to play on the radio. With the lyrics on screen, so I can find out what they were really singing.

Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warren's duet of 'Up Where We Belong' garnered the pair a grammy for best vocals for a duet and the song writers an award for best song. That song is on the list as Best Song Of The Century also.Just for a heads up,the Beatles drummer sings this sing.Ringo Starr would sing very rarely on the Beatles albums. For the Beatles this was a pop song. The Beatles didn't make a version of this song. They made the song and everything after it was a version. That said,Joe's version is the best, imo.

Before I even start your reaction, I am so excited he is The Man. Saw him live many times and people would surround the buildings just to hear momentary snatches when a door opened. Beatles are the most influential rock band of all time and continue to be that, so get into them is a good idea. Watch this from his Woodstock performance, it'll change your life. The main reason I have become hooked on reactions, as an old woman btw, is because I see you expanding, growing and understanding the modern history of the world. It's all there in the music. There were SO MANY incredible artists that came out of that era of rock. The talent was jaw dropping. So, even some of the greatest singers, like Joe Cocker, can get lost in the shuffle when looking back. Yes, we heard ALL those notes. His style of performance and singing somewhat like James Brown. Ray Charles, yes. Others here mention it, you really, really need to see him in one of his live performances and more of the songs he did. And yes, you must check out the Beatles. They started a whole new wave of rock and roll in the mid 60s, along with the Rolling Stones and many others. The British music revolution. Each member of that group are singers, songwriters, musicians in their own right. They evolved over time, exploring different sounds and genres. You have a lot of exploring with them alone. Most musicians over the last 50-60 years praise them.

Many years ago I went to a tiny local bar here on the UWS of Manhattan named Mikel’s. It was a bar mainly frequented by musicians and the band STUFF, made up of the legendary studio players , Cornell Dupree , Richard Tee, Gordon Edwards, and Steve Gadd were playing . ( the capacity of the club was between 99 and 199. ) Lo and behold, Joe Cocker sort of stumbled up to the stage and started to sing this song . I’m not sure if he knew it when he started to sing but Stevie Wonders backup singers were having drinks there and they started belting the backup vocals from their table . The lights were shining in Joe’s eyes so he had a difficult time figuring out where this chorus of angels was coming from. He put his hand on this forehead to block the glare from the stage lights and he saw his angels. It was one of the many legendary nights at Mikell’s

When Joe Cocker and his band arrived at Woodstock for their set, the female backup singers were caught up in the massive traffic jam on the way there, and couldn’t show up for the performance. The band members had to sing the backup singers’ parts in falsetto for this song at Woodstock. It turned out OK. Another song/music video by Joe Cocker (with Jennifer Warnes) that you will want to react to, is for the 1982 song, “Up Where We Belong”, which was part of the soundtrack album for the 1982 film, “An Officer And A Gentleman”, which starred Richard Gere and Debra Winger, and has a feature role by Louis Gossett, Jr..

+1 recommendation for Joe's Woodstock concert. Also, John Belushi used to do a hilarious but super accurate Joe Cocker impression. Maybe check that out after you see a live performance from Joe.

First off..Thank ALL our Black brothers and sisters for giving us the Blues!....We in the UK, took so many wonderful singers from your troubles, and enriched our own music..You'll be playing this often, and Woodstock was blown away by Joe..RIP.

“I don’t even want to look at y’all” …I know honey, it’s ok, I understand friend. “Did you hear the blues in that?” … yes, I did and it’s ok. It’s amazing. See him performing this live at Woodstock. It’s incredible. He might have been autistic, I’m not certain. But please check out his live performance.

Yes, you should react to the Beatles. Your musical journey will not be complete without knowing them. I would suggest starting with their early years and moving on through time to see how they progressed. Since you like to do research before reacting you will see that there was nothing like the Beatles when they burst onto the scene. They took the world by storm and influenced music and culture so intensely that we would literally be living in a different world right now had they not existed. I would even suggest watching a Beatles documentary before reacting so you will understand what a huge influence they were on modern music and the historical context in which they existed. Tumultuous times and societal upheaval and change. Civil Rights, Hippies, Viet Nam war, young people speaking out and so much more. America had never seen anything like it up until that point. You also should hear Bob Dylan’s song The Times They Are A-Changin' to also understand the historical significance of the time. It’s one thing to listen to good music from the 1960's-1970's but IMO it’s also important to know where and how that music came about.

How could you not know the legendary Joe Cocker. This is making me feel so old. Mad Dogs and English men, Leon Russell brilliant song writer. Miss those days. 😢 Joe was a plumber and gas fitter and his body movements had their genesis from his days of fitting pipes. ❤

So many brilliant songs, Into the Mystic is my choice for my funeral, hopefully not soon.Miss you so, Joe. You gave everything to the music. Thank you.RIP.

He was one of the few performers who were at BOTH Woodstocks. He was the opening act for the 25th anniversary of Woodstock. I was 2 y/o at the first one. The 2nd one was just like the 1st one. 3 days of rain filled mud slides, sex, drugs, & rock-n-roll. Tents as far as the eyes could see, 300,000+ ppl strong. It was awesome!

He was known as "Joe Cocker, the rotating rocker." You have to see him perform to understand why. When he sang, he literally rotated in place while singing.

Yes, you definitely have to check out the Beatles. They wrote songs for every eventuality. They invented pop music as we know it today. Anyone wanting to start it writing music needs to check them out. Songs like Nowhere Man, Hide Your Love Away, Girl, Paperback Writer, Tomorrow Never Sleeps and Help demonstrate their variety and songsmithery. No 1 Band/Song Writers of all time. The sum of the parts far exceeded the individuals. Joe Cockers rendition of the Ringo Star song , Get By With A Little Help From My Friends eclipses the original. The video of his Woodstock performance of this is fabulous. Glad you have heard this. It would be a sad thing to never have done so.
