미역국 // Korean Birthday Soup // Postpartum soup // Seaweed Soup // Miyeokguk // Baby seaweed soup recipe
Hey guys, welcome back to another video! Today, we will be sharing a special recipe that most Koreans will enjoy on their birthdays called 미역국, or seaweed soup. It is nutriitious, delicious, and perfect for so many occasions. Make sure you make this for your loved one on their next birthday! We hope you enjoyed this video, and we’ll see you guys next time!
Seaweed Soup 미역국 (~8 servings)
Ingredients:
~1 Cup of sirloin or flank beef
Dried seaweed
2 tsp minced garlic
2 Tbsp light soy sauce
2 Tbsp sesame oil
2 tsp anchovy sauce
2 tsp salt, more to taste
2 L water
Directions:
1. In a big bowl, add dried seaweed and enough water to completely submerge it (~2-3x the amount of seaweed). Set it aside for about 15-20 minutes.
2. Cut beef into bite size pieces.
3. In the meantime, heat up water in a pot on high heat. When it comes to a boil, cook 1 Cup of beef in the water for about 20 seconds and drain it. Set the meat aside.
4. Combing back to the seaweed, cut it into smaller pieces.
5. Now in a large pot, lay the cut seaweed to the bottom of the pot. Add just enough water to submerge it the pot. Cook it on medium-high heat for about 10 minutes.
6. Then, add the remaining water and the beef.
7. Once this comes to a boil, add minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and anchovy sauce.
8. Give it a good mix, try the soup and add salt based on your taste preference.
9. Continue to cook this for about 20 more minutes.
10. Enjoy with a hot bowl of rice and side dishes.
Baby Seaweed Soup Porridge (~3-4 servings)
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp dried seaweed
2 Tbsp sirloin or flank beef, diced very small
¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp sesame oil
½ Cup water
1 Tbsp white rice
¼ tofu
Directions:
1. In a bowl, add dried seaweed and enough water to completely submerge it (~2-3x the amount of seaweed). Set it aside for about 15-20 minutes.
2. Cut beef into bite size pieces.
3. In the meantime, heat up water in a pot on high heat. When it comes to a boil, cook cut beef in the water for about 20 seconds and drain it. Set the meat aside.
4. Combing back to the seaweed, cut it into very small pieces.
5. Now in a small pot, lay the cut seaweed to the bottom of the pot. Add just enough water to submerge it the pot. Cook it on medium-high heat for about 10 minutes.
6. Then, add the remaining water and the beef.
7. Once this comes to a boil, add garlic powder and sesame oil.
8. Give it a good mix and continue to cook it for about 5 minutes.
9. Blanch ¼ tofu in boiling water.
10. Now, add 1 Tbsp cooked white rice and blanched tofu into the seaweed soup pot. Using a spoon, mash tofu so it’s easy to eat.
11. Continue to cook this for about 10 more minutes.
12. Split into portion sizes and enjoy!
