Miyoo Mini Plus - This Is Disappointing

If you enjoy tweaking the device and installing a custom OS it's great. If you have no interest in doing any of that, there are better options.

I think it is fine that this kind of cheap device manufacturers rely on the community for software, because it will reduce the cost, duplicate efforts. BUT, at leas the manufacturers should provide all the information that the community needs, like drivers, etc.

for the screen protector, unfortunately, the screen is slightly rounded which messes witch any flat surfaced screen protector. i use mine and every game fits inside the protector so im cool with it

Well said bro. I agree with you on this 100%. just got my device last night and ive been trying to install Onion OS and all the roms because it came with an SD card that will not read on PC or Mac. Kinda ruined the experience for me. Waiting on my replacement but im not excited at all. From what ive read online, everyone has an issue with the default OS. Probably going to have to look into installing a new OS regardless smh.

Wifi is for playing 2 player games. It's amazing that you can play with your buddy! The features you're complaining about not being there are not necessary. Image scraping? Pff. Retroachievements? What?

Miyoo is counting on the community to provide custom firmware. I agree, it is kind of shitty on their part, but I like the form factor of the mini plus, and will be installing Onion OS, which the beta version 4.2 should be out any day now. The people behind Onion OS are awesome, they truly deserve more credit and donations from the rest of the community! As for Miyoo, the biggest problem has been the screen falling out, lots of buyers have complained, Miyoo seems to work with the people who received these faulty units by either refunding them their money, sending them a new screen, or exchanging the unit. They claim the screen falling out issue has now been fixed.

I have seen reports of the screen issue. However, I did not experience that at all with my device. In fact, the screen seems to be very well adhered. As such, I did not include it in the video. My frustration is that this is not a new issue with the firmware.

@@Arcade1983 From what I've heard, the company received about 100 reports of screens coming off... which sounds like a lot... but for all I know with how many units they've put out, that's a small percentage. It seems every release that didn't come from someone like Anbernic has potential issues. Like as much as I love the idea of the Funkey S, and as passionate of followers of that device are, I've also heard of quality control issues for them too. I'm also fine with crummy default firmware because I love finding what others are making. These things are still tinkerer's gadgets, and I kinda like that about them.

​@@Colcalebcatfunny enough the 405m ALSO has screen falling out issues. Mines fine so far. But I've seen so many reports on Reddit it's making me worry. Got the miyoo plus as my cheaper replacement so I'm not as worried about it breaking.

Sad to say your review is not a true reflection of the unit….. as you prefer using your own roms, the issue might e just that. Mine worked out of the box

I think for me I bought it with an entirely different frame of mind, more so like a tinkering device that I would download shit onto and have fun with and try different things. I am using DotUi because the default firmware is grotesque lol but I totally think that if someone bought it expecting or hoping for a quality plug and play experience they would be in for a rude awakening

Your comment is bs. Out of box experience is fine. Everything is set up and working. Wifi for 2 player games works too when you have 2 devices.

@@af1762 hey brainlet, I just don’t like the quality of the roms, having a shit ton of useless ones that I won’t play, and don’t find the user interface appealing. Netplay wasn’t what I was thinking about with online features, I was thinking more about the features that Onion 4.2 currently used with the Wi-Fi. At the time of my comment I don’t think there was any use besides netplay on stock OS and that still might be the case, idk But yes, netplay is a thing that I didn’t consider in my comment. I don't think you got the point of the video. Actually the rg35xx stock os is even worse than the mini plus so it relies even more on community made custom os such as GarlicOS than the miyoo mini plus, which makes it an even worse option out of the box. At the end of the day these Chinese handhelds are all plagued by the same issues and are reliant on the community to fix them.

@@manuelrodriguez9972 And yet the RG35XX isn't really harnessing that processing power, because you hear about even NES games having frame rate problems, as well as Playstation games. It'll probably be fixed in the future, but the Miyoo Mini Plus is definitely better optimized right now.

Usb c is crap and screen protector is crap. Both included micro sds are crap too. So everything but the device and maybe the adapter are bad
