I own the Srixon Z585 and love them from the first hit. With other clubs I had a tendency to lose it to the right due to pilot error. The Srixons have a tendency to forgive my wanton ways and keep the ball straighter and even with a slight draw. Club performance is an individual variant and the Z585's work best for my game.

Hello Mike, I own a set of the JPX 919 forged, and I love them. I get consistent yardage and results everytime I swing the club and hit the ball pure. I'm using Snell MTB Black. Around the green and all over the entire course, this club and ball combination are on point for me. The JPX-919 Forged is one of the top 3 best club you should consider getting fit for it and buying it. I got fitted for my set, and it's was with me 2 degree flat lie, 1 degree strong loft, and with the XP 95 SIFF steer shafts. I LOVE THEM!!!!! I HIGHLY recommend them, and get fitted.

I recently hit the JPX 919 Forged at a Mizuno fitting day at our local range. Compared to my current irons (JPX 850 Forged) the 919 Forged looked a bit better; appeared to be slightly shorter in blade length, but thicker in the top line; and, felt or sounded a bit softer than the 850 Forged. Distances and ball flight appeared to be pretty close between the 850 and 919. I couldn't really justify a purchase just because they looked a bit prettier and felt a little better, but if I were coming from another iron I would buy the 919 Forged in a heartbeat.

As a Mizuno fan, I might be a bit biased here. That 919 would be on the top of my list to try. The Srixon would be on my list as well, this is a head to head I've been wanting to see. Thanks for the video.

Seems like blending the Srixon 785 and 585 set would be the best thing to do to get the spin in the lower distance clubs.

I like the Srixon much more. The Forged 919 is much bigger in my eyes. Longer blade. Both feel good. Distance was about the same for me and the same with spin numbers. For me the 919 did not spin more.

The 7200+ spin numbers on the Mizuno would be the two fades you hit. Throw those two out and there is only about 500+ difference between the two.

I had a long custom fit session last week having narrowed it down to the Z585, Z785 and 919 Forged. I ended up going Z785 PW -> 8 and Z585 7 -> 5. The two Srixon irons are so good looking and look very similar behind the ball to each other and so blend really well. For me, the srixons has slightly heavier heads which meant I had a much better idea where the club was, and therefore had much better strike. Both have a great choice of shafts. The key is to get a good custom fit to see how they feel to you. My local driving range allowed me to try various irons the week before to narrow the choice down, over an hour custom fit with a pro on a launch monitor with proper balls, when they arrive I'll have a gapping session to tweak the lofts for blending - and all price matched to large internet outlets.

Adrian, did you get your clubs tweaked yet? what types of gapping were you seeing and did you make changes, if so, what were they? I'm eying a 4-6 585 and 7-PW 785 with possibly bending the 5 and 6 iron a degree weaker. let me know! Thanks

@@benbaranczyk5167 I ended up only bending the gap wedge to 51 and leaving the others. I was getting exactly 10 yard carry gap for each club between 5I and 8I, then getting a bit bigger gap got 9I and PW. Form me, there was starting to be a lower peak height for 7I and longer, so there is certainly a case for weakening them by 1 to match up more with the 785s. It really depends on the individual, at what point the gapping starts to get bunched up and what to blend in with. If I was buying blind and had to spec up before buying then I'd weaken the 585s by 1 degree. In the original fitting, the 585 7I went 3 yards further than 785, which is really the 1 degree difference in loft.

Heavier weight is partly why I chose to buy the Srixon Z585s as well, and partly also why I switched out the stock Nippon Modus 105 shafts and had them install KBS $-Taper HT 120g (Heavy Tip) shafts, which they cut at longer length for my height. My clubs may probably feel too heavy for some players, but I cannot control light-weight clubs and am already too inconsistent a ball-striker as it is, so the added forgiveness of the Srixon Z585s really helps me. And for my money, the KBS $-Taper HT 120g (Heavy Tip) shafts are the best I have ever swung, and the tighter dispersion they offer is great. The $-Taper HTs also come in 125g and 130g versions.

Thanks for doing this comparison. I've been really torn between them. Love the look of the 585 and could use the distance but really concerned about holding the green. I think I'm leaning towards the 919 forged. Nothing feels like a mizuno.

Mizuno are great clubs but give the Wilson v6 a try, this club is butter with forgiveness but can't go wrong with Mizuno

Randy Mahoney, holding the green is about getting the right descent angle. This is usually above 45°. Get yourself fitted correctly and it won't matter which set you go for.

Michael I love your reviews but I have to say I think you are comparing the wrong categories. 585 IMO is better matched to the hot metal and the 785 to the forged. the 85 series does not yet have a comparison to the tour but the 965 would be closest. Again I enjoy the reviews but as someone that plays the Srixon 545 I think you may have missed on this one.

Really thinking the 919 forged will be my next set of irons, however I really prefer the look and feel of the MP18 sc. I am lead to believe that the 919 forged is the more forgiving of the two, am I wrong?

Try the MP18 MMC, i have these 6-PW with fli-hi 5&4....found them to be a very forgiving combo!

I carry a 50 degree (120-125 yards), 54 degree SW (110 yards is perfect for me) and 58 degree LW (100 yards). I really like the 919 Forged but the 919 Tour was a big surprise for me - I didnt think I was good enough but it was so easy to hit

Nice work as usual Mike. What I would have been interested to see are the numbers for the Srixon 8 iron vs the Mizuno 7 iron. In this case the Srixon 8 might be giving up 4 yards of carry to the Mizuno 7 and the spin may be comparable so where would this leave your conclusion? I suppose I am saying the Srixon 7 plays like a Mizuno 6.5 and the Srixon 8 like a Mizuno 7.5. So I could not make a buying decision comparing just these two seven irons; I would have to compare 4-PW before a fully informed judgement could be made but trying to gain access to this range of irons in each set to test is impossible, thereby exposing a major problem with custom fitting.

I played last year PW to 5-iron 785:s and then U85:s 4-iron and 2-iron. Because of my bad right elbow I change my 5,6 and 7-iron into 585:s and also move from 105g stiff steel shaft to stiff graphite shafts. I have tried several different irons but havent found any reason to change from Srixon. The only clubs that feel better are blades but my old Hogans will stay in the closet forever :). If I would grade feel from 1-10, the 785:s are 8 or 9 and the 919:s and 585:s around 7-8.

Can you shape the ball at will with these clubs. I have game improvement clubs and cannot hit a draw to save my life. If I grab a forged club, it is easy.

Great review. A little off topic, but like to hear your feedback on this. How would you compare the JPX 900 Forged against Callaway X-Forged 2018 in terms of feel and forgiveness? I just traded in the 900 forged for the X-forged. I wasn’t a fan of the Boron (felt too hard) and how the finish wore on the JPX 900 forged. ( the face got spotty and smudged looking ). Also, The grooves on the 8 iron collapsed and earlier this year I had to buy a replacement club. ( I was 1 month outside of their 12 month warranty). The XForged has a smaller cavity and no under cut cavity so I’m thinking it’s a little less forgiving than the JPX 900 forged.

While you are on the topic, bought mp-18 blades 8-pw, MP-18SC 4-7. previous set MP-32s. Blades are harsher than 32's, grooves wearing already little metal pieces coming off on edge. CG on blades not behind center of face. Had dispute with MIzuno over mass assembly & heads too light adding weight in shaft. I am disappointed with no help from factory. Ping all the way, best assembled clubs.

Michael Newton Golf just hit my X-forged 2018 today at the PGA superstore here in New Jersey. The feel is buttery soft, even softer than the JPX 900 forged. As far as forgiveness, yeah I got punished on a few off center strikes but nothing crazy, maybe 5-10 yards. Very happy with the X-forged ‘18. Checks all the boxes, feel, looks, etc.
