I grew up as a junior golfer playing bladed irons. I was 7 yrs old when i started playing and even had a 1 iron in the bag ive had multiple lay offs from the game over the yrs but the one thing ive always excelled at is ball striking and i put this all down to learning to play golf with the old balata balls and bladed irons. Im now 44 yrs old and still game an old set of mp68 mizuno blades and have an old hogan apex bladed 2 iron in the bag!!! The day i cant get hold of a set of bladed irons is the day i will quit. Im currently playing off 3 handicap and in my opinion blades are the best game improvement irons on the market the feedback and punishment when not struck out the middle is everything you need to improve your ball striking.

Played MP33 for 10 years as a 12 handicap. There's a lot of joy to be had, but I had to practice every day. Be warned. They are beautiful though.

Great video, I’m a Mizuno fan JPX919, to old now for this type of club, just wish they had been around when I played decent golf.

I agree with you completely Andrew! What golf club manufacturers are doing with lofts is nearly malfeasance. Seven iron lofts of 27° robs the consumer of a balanced and well gapped set of clubs.

Thanks Michael, totally agree. Thanks for watching.

MP64s in the bag and very keen to try these new blades. I know that if I don’t compress the ball my swing is off and it’s never the clubs. Good review as ever - how about trying to move the ball left and right to show the difference with a cast iron JPX game improver club?

15:56 Andy cracking review mate! Would you consider the new range in a combo set? With the 8-9-w in 241 then the 7-6 in the 243 and finish of with the 245 in the 5-4 ?

Hi Steve, would be a good shout to mix the irons in a combo set.

My old MP33s had weaker lofts than these. The 7 iron was 36 degrees and the pitching wedge was 48. I never should have gotten rid of them.

Good review of a lovely set of irons. I am of the view that practicing with blades is a good way to improve ball striking. The communication is so good you know instantly what you have done wrong and so can learn. I don't necessarily suggest spending £1300 on a set but perhaps £50 on a decent set from the '80's as a practice aid. If you learn to hit those you will find your modern gamers very easy! Agree with you on loft jacking. Just don't understand 27* 7 irons! Even 34* is a bit of creep; the era of irons i play have 36 or 37* as a typical 7 iron loft. Wilson in the late '60's had a 39* 7 iron so close to the modern PW you referred to! Not much wonder people think they are hitting irons longer these days!

Hi Andrew, thanks for the review. I'm currently playing a combo mizuno set MP15, j5-7 (have a j4 but not on the course)/MP4, j8-pw. Still in good shape... How would you compare these vs Pro 241? Thinking about to upgrade one day...Regards Bo

Hi Bo, thanks for watching the video, I would suggest you go to a Mizuno custom fitter and do a comparison.

I hit the 241 and 243. Both felt awesome but the 243 was just a little easier to deal with. Why make the game harder?

Thanks for watching , totally agree, golf is hard enough.

What irons are in your bag?

Hi, At the moment I am using a old set of Ping S56 Irons. Will probably upgrade this year to set of Ping Blueprint S Irons.

Forgiveness is a lie. Play blades
@andrewainsworth49711 ай бұрын
Hi Ben thanks for watching, out of curiosity have you always played blades? How do you back up the statement that forgiveness is a lie? From my 35 years experience as a coach I have seen quite a few golfers switch to a blade and started to struggle with consistency etc. What's your take on it? Best regards Andrew
