Well done MK. Finally a UK socket with Wago style connectors. A transparent connector similar to the Wago 221 connector would have been even better. I have used French sockets with screwdriverless connectors but they were only suitable for solid conductors and once connected the conductor was almost impossible to remove. From this presentation it appears that the MK connector can accept solid, stranded or fine stranded conductors and the conductor can be withdrawn by simply lifting the lever. I cannot wait to try them out.

These look like a great idea to me. I'm not a professional electrician but I think for people doing bits themselves at home (where appropriate, I'm not a numpty!) this should be a lot safer as well since they remove the chance of making a bad termination that might come loose when the socket is fixed back. Price wise a single one of these is currently £6 on Screwfix and the standard one is £3.77 so they cost ~60% more which is a hefty increase though I think it's worth it for the convenience and safety factor.
@geraldelwood96603 жыл бұрын
A welcome step forward. Now we just need them to take that terminal block and locate it in the back box, (with a suitable flexi fly led to the socket.) So at first fix we can complete and test the ring before the kitchen fitters come along and screw through our rings. And socket faces can be unscrewed for EICR's, with much less risk of causing a broken conductor as we push back the face plate.

Been wanting something like this for so long, hopefully they extend it across more products such as FCUs and switches, although the design would probably need to be changed to make the terminals small enough to fit on a single gang product. If they're keeping the screwless terminals exclusively to the double sockets, it would at least be good to see more widespread adoption of cage clamps like on the Crabtree instinct range, at least then you don't have the issue with damaging conductors by overtightening. Makes for a tough decision when deciding on a range to go for - Logic Plus for screwless sockets but regular screws on everything else, or Crabtree Instinct for cage clamps on everything but no screwless option.

I am all for new products but engineering quality and testing matters and efixx should be calling this out more otherwise manufacturers will feel they don’t have to be transparent about the quality of their products and testing methods and we then get a race to the bottom which none of us want. I hear they use Wago connector springs which have been proven but it’s high time for manufacturers to release more comprehensive testing and technical information about their products.

I’m really impressed with them, quick question for you guys though. On stranded cable how do the terminals hold up with a feral in the terminals? I’m guessing they should be fine and and there is probably no need to feral them in these types types of connectors
@ConjuredUndead3 жыл бұрын
Stripping length is 10mm, normally get 10mm on a bootlace ferrule, so in reality it should marry up to the shoulder of the ferrule. Gonna have to try this myself…

£30 for 5 rapid double sockets or £19 for 5 screw terminal sockets £11 the difference so over a rewire your looking at the difference of around £50 based on 25 double sockets in a small house
@J4MB03 жыл бұрын
As a homeowner, I'd pay that on top of a rewire bill. And I'm a bit of an MK loyalist so I'm sold.
@TheGorillahands3 жыл бұрын
@@J4MB0 I based this on MK socket prices , an average double socket is around £2 , compared to £6 for a rapid fit, it's all gonna come down to the customer saying yes to a quote that is significantly higher than the competition. One day they will be common place but until then?

The most costly part of a rewrite is the labour at £97 per hour (for Jordon). So this will be quicker and cheaper 👍💪🥸

For me the big selling point is more about the terminals being at a set torque and maintenance free, knowing it should eliminate loose terminal problems that occur, the time aspect is good too, looking forward to seeing a review and race from you guys 😀

Was really interested to see how the two screws for fixing to the backbox had been eliminated, disappointed.

I have the same problem, i tend to over tighten the screw terminals, screw less is the new normal. Perhaps at some point we will get to see a 100% screw less distribution board.

A bit tight in a 25 mil box but you still got to Screw it back to the wall / time will tell if these screw less terminals work or cause problems

I want to see these standard how much easier would it be if RCBOs, light switches, sockets ect... where all screwless

10:28 - seeing it from that angle kind of shows the need for a possible 4th cpc connection.

My thinking too. Only way to do it would be to run the CPC into the back box terminal first then a jumper to the socket.

Do you think that this sort of push fit technology could be applied to neutral earth bars on consumer units or even rcbos mcbs etc.. surely it will prevent arcing issues further on... Great vid guys.. bet u wished you patented that idea... $$$$$$

You’ve just resurrected a 50 year old memory with the screwdriver in the earth pin and two wires stuffed in the live and neutral. I recall my father doing this on a regular basis, didn’t have the luxury of an insulated screwdriver, a six inch nail was always on hand. I recall, if something had the luxury of being attached to a 3 pin plug, he would use the live and neutral pin to slide the bare wires in essentially piggy backing the live and neutral. How I got to this ripe old age living with my father and his non existent DIY skills I don’t know.

There are a lot of reports of conductors coming out under light to moderate pressure .. far-far less than it would take to disconnect a Wago lever. What think?
@brightside09703 жыл бұрын
The issuer with those sockets is that their isn’t enough earth terminals. If you did a runs an then a spur of the ring you couldn’t terminate all the earths an the back box. Yes I would earth the back box even if it has a solid screw hole.
@johnburns40173 жыл бұрын
Then use a Wago in the box for the extra CPC. If you want to earth metal box when it does not need it, then.....

@@johnburns4017 it’s not a good design if they haven’t thought of it. Shouldn’t have to add an extra wage in the box.

@@brightside0970 Use a metal box with one solid lug, then no need to connect a CPC to the metal box. Simple. Most metal boxes have one solid CPC. Two adjustable lugs is rare. You are bringing up a non-issue.
