I am just used to you always painting stuff. I was just surprised you rebuilt something and didn’t repaint. I have never seen you do that. 😂

True but I’ve never painted any of the shifter boxes on any of the swaps lol normally just rebuild them if needed and then you never see them again

The pedal install was easier than I thought, but I wasn’t under the dash. By all means change out the exhaust while your at it. You need to buy yourself a free standing tower fan. Y’all don’t want to dehydrate in the Florida heat ! Great job, as always ! Thanks, RickGTI…..🌴

Don't forget to loop the connector that was on the shifterbox or car won't start. if you don't know it will be a headache 🙃 I don't think clusters are different from manual to automatic. If so it must be US only.
@Mk3Smith2 жыл бұрын
I gotta look up how to do that appreciate the comment 👍🏼 I haven’t pulled the cluster yet to see the connector but I will

Hey Christian, 1991 car has newer style of fusebox Ce2 than your 1987 Jetta Ce1 As someone pointed earlier in the comments this also affects the cluster. It has way different connector and will not fit.

Christian, please save the automatic pedalbox.. I had to buy one for my project. (1.8t 225hp with DSG DQ250 gearbox) in golf 2. I had to look for a long time and paid 50 euro for it! they are hard to find.

You did say on one of your Germany videos, everything you take off, you paint it before reinstalling it.

Facts but I never paint the shifter boxes just rebuild them if needed lol

Probably the skrew from your steering has an excenter to tighten the steering spindle, take a look if that exenter is ajusted to get it in.

I dont think a ce2 cluster will work with a (ce1?) body harness that your car should have. Mk2 gurus can correct me if im wrong
@thescalefactorypl99322 жыл бұрын
The original cluster from the car should be the older style with two plugs. Ce2 cluster has one small plug. So yeah they're incompatible without making adapter. The steering column will also be a problem. Ce2 has different connectors everywhere and it can't be easily replaced
@LucnotLuck2 жыл бұрын
@@thescalefactorypl9932 also my thoughts, if that whole ce2 harness is available from the red car he should consider doing the full swap. I think it will also make the 3.6 swap easier
@thescalefactorypl99322 жыл бұрын
@@LucnotLuck that's actually a good point! Of course swap is possible with ce1 but ce2 makes it way easier and i think that there are already plug&play engine harnesses for ce2. Personally I've made G60 swap to ce1 car and it was quite a struggle 😅

A buddy of mine has a NA diesel mk2 automatic and suffer from the exact same problems, sadly diesel automatic starters are non existing, we tried with a petrol starter with the heat shield on and everything and it started for a couple of days and then had the same problem again. Kinda weird since yours is 35 years old his is 31 and i assume they haven't had new starters every two weeks for 35 and 31 years :/ that would make quite a lot of starters

I cant for the life of me not understand why you do not take the front of and lift the engine. It is much faster and easyer i every way to do both linkage and gearbox. No crawling and lifting heavy stuff under the car. Learn from others.
@Mk3Smith2 жыл бұрын
Wasn’t necessary to pull the entire engine for this job. Also I don’t have an engine hoist anymore or a place to store one currently.
