Yes sir. Spot on. It was THE knife issued by the Navy for BUDS candidates starting the program. I have one, that's not near as good of shape as this one, but I really like it.

The rubber handles knives are part of OKC’s Spec Plus lines. They aren’t issued. OKC makes the Mk3 MOD0. It is an issue Dive knife. Took the place of Mk2. The Mk3 version you have is older. The tip is prone to breaking. The newer ones have a much less pronounced Clip point. In the past The SP1 and SP 2 would routinely go on sale on Amazon for $30ish. They seem to stay over $40 now.

I've used one of these as my general purpose outdoors knife for 10+ years. I can't say what the Navy intended that thick pommel to be used for but I can tell you that it makes for a pretty good hammer in a pinch.

I can't speak about their knives, but the Ontario 22" machete is the gold standard for people who use them on a daily basis. I used one for over a decade working for a land surveyor and it was the best we could find.

The Spec Plus Army knife is the SP3. It's a cross between an M3 trench knife and a V42 dagger.

I was a Navy Quartermaster ( navigation ) on subs , my brother in-law was a Coastie and said they were not allowed to play with knifes ( he may have been kidding - or not ) . On subs we did not carry knifes !!!

Ontario makes a good tool at very budget prices. In my experience, KA-BAR sort of quality, save for weaker (but not bad) grip material, for half the price or less. I can feel that they do budget work, but not cheap junk. Their folders are very respectable, quality budget options, too. I own a couple of SP-1 models, an SP-6, an SP-10, and a RAT II folder. I have nicer knives, but none with the same quality to price ratio. I found the new prices on all but the SP-10 to be very reasonable. Picked them up on sale for roughly low 30's each. Definitely beats a KA-BAR at over twice the price for my needs. Hope the comment helps the algorithm. I enjoy both channels, brother.

The Mk3 ModO is an issued Navy dive knife. They're cheap in Pensacola because they're issued for free and in large numbers at the schools on NAS Pensacola (the Navy's largest training installation). Also, another reason to have the same blade profile as an AK bayonet is so that you have the same wound channels, to disguise who stabbed who

Except the AKM 6X3 and 6X4 bayonets have an asymmetrical blade style, a wood chisel style (flat on one side) or basically a parallelogram in cross section. The Navy contractor just copied the 6X3/6X4 blade style because it was revolutionary at the time (especially when half the known world copied the wire cutter provision).

I believe they have a new mk3, that doesn't have the skinny point to it. I watched another video from a vet who said the first ones the tips broke off, and he didn't like them. Tactical Hyve is the guy that talks about the mk3.

I Found a U.S. Navy MK3 MOD 0 Combat So I had to look it up.

Now put a razor sharp, polished edge on one of those and cut some things. The Russian knife looks the coolest. I like polished steel blades.

the knife came out in the 80's and it's not anything new
