I can't thank you enough for this very well produced instructional video. It was concise and easy to follow. If you can do all that work with one hand you certainly are talented! After removing the cylinder head on my daughters 2001 Golf (Timing Belt failure) and disconnecting endless hoses and electrical connections I was happy to learn I do not have to put all those hoses back to stock. You did a fantastic job showing each and every detail! I had noticed when disassembling our VW that several of those hoses and lines were dry rotted and surly there were leaks! Surprising the car ran as well as it did! Cheers!

You are more than welcome man, im glad it has been helping you along your way. Did the timing belt snap? If so any damage to valves/camshaft etc? Some work is done with one hand but some done off camera, I do have a head mount and chest mount but never use them. Yesterday I was working on the car and was topping up the break fluid when I noticed more hoses looking cracked in that area. @SPOOLINUP2 жыл бұрын
I cant remember exactly mate but even the link has it all at the beginning exactly what you need. I know the catch can hoses are 19mm. Any vacuum hose required is 4mm and I believe the hose for the brake booster upgrade works out yo be around 13mm but if you check the link its all at the beginning and you can use Google to convert it to metric as its all in inches and feet.
@SakisTheDrifter Жыл бұрын
After almost 2 years of doing these deletes there is a downside i have noticed. That is that with the catch can the crankcase has more pressure in it, causing the engine oil to sweep through the turbo seals to the exhaust, making it smoke on long idle, increasing oil consumption at the proccess. The stock pcv valve helps vacuum all this pressure by opening and letting the intake suck all this up. Its not a problem for me, i dont care if my car smokes after long idle, i do care that the crankcase fumes get filtered and sended clean to the turbo
@SPOOLINUP Жыл бұрын
Since doing the deleted I haven't noticed any increase of smoking during idle. In theory if the catch can vents to atmosphere then as long as the crankcase is at a higher pressure than atmospheric it should be able to disperse the gasses. Do you have the outlet of your catch can going to atmosphere? I've re-routed mine to terminate under the car rather than the TIP.
@SakisTheDrifter Жыл бұрын
@@SPOOLINUP The outlet of the catch can is on the TIP for me. It doesnt smoke immediately on idle. I have to let it idle for at least 1 minute, then the smoke starts and gets worse the more i let it idle. I believe in my situation the smoke problem is much more sensitive because i dont have anything attached on the exhaust. Its just a straight pipe with the only restriction being the turbine itself. The pipe is also 80mm in diameter. So the exhaust has really low pressure, while the crankcase on idle has more so that lets the oil flow from the high pressure to the low pressure. If you are having at least the catalytic converter and 1 muffler on your exhaust, it should be hard to make it smoke so soon
@SPOOLINUP Жыл бұрын
@SakisTheDrifter I understand what you are saying, I don't have any boxes on the exhaust either, but you could maybe try and blank off the TIP where you have connected it to the catch can and let the catch can vent to atmosphere and see if it helps.
@SakisTheDrifter Жыл бұрын
@@SPOOLINUP I connected the stock pcv system a week ago and the smoking effect is greatly reduced. It definately has to do something with crankcase pressure. Your suggestion passed throu my mind a while ago and i believe that indeed it would help a little, but i dont want to do it,because i want some oily air to get into the intake of the turbine and the top of the piston to lubricate them aswell. I ordered the catch can you have on your video, because yours have wider fittings while mine has smaller, witch made a restriction and helping the problem i have
@SPOOLINUP Жыл бұрын
@SakisTheDrifter Oh I see, so then in that case you have proven there is a difference. That sounds like a good idea using larger diameter hoses and fitting along with a larger port catch can. You can try and route it to atmosphere. The oily air that you speak of for the top of the piston probably gets burnt pretty fast so might not actually help.

Also why'd you replace the coolant neck?
@SPOOLINUP2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, im glad the videos have been helping you and thanks for watching! I apologise for the late reply. The hoses for the catch can need to be a little longer than a meter. If you look in the description there is a link to a guide which tells you pretty much all you need. As for the vacuum caps I bought an assorted package from ebay or amazon and then realised I needed some larger ones so ordered them but I am not 100% sure of the sizes mate im sorry. I can imagine some were 4mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm but not 100% sure as I have even replaces some since. The coolant neck was replaced along with the PCV 90° because it may as well be done while you are working in that area to keep it fresh and new as they may break in the future. Sorry I can't be of much more help .

What did you delete? Can you explain the cons of deleting all that stuff ? And do I loose my AC ?
@SPOOLINUP2 жыл бұрын
Hi, the systems that were deleted basically mostly are there to control vehicle emissions. The cons of deleting them is that you end up with a tidier engine bay and you future proof your engine ridding it of potential vacuum leaks. Your AC stays!!

I've gone 5mm on the front for now because they were free from a friend who removed from his VX220 and it meant I could still use my original bolts and lockers (anything over 5mm you need longer bolts), 20mm on rear makes a huge difference and helps fill the arches. It's the part in the top left corner of the engine bay right by the coolant bottle. The wheels will be going on when the tyres on my current wheels get bad which will be in the next month or two. I just need to sort out a better tyre size for them because they are too stretched and too small.

Hey man, I would suggest first of all checking all of the vacuum caps you have used and any new vacuum lines installed. Also check the blanking plate on the side of the engine to make sure that is all nice and tight. Just go back over your work and see if you can spot a problem. I had vacuum leaks under my inlet manifold because the caps I used were slightly too big. Also I have noticed that the car doesn't have problems when it is left to warm up at idle for 5 minutes or so, when you drive it when its cold it has problems. Under acceleration its fine. I was assured after doing these deletes that the issues could be resolved with a map to delete the systems the ECU is searching for that are no longer in the engine bay. Did mine today, absolute pig of a job! Clutch was much quicker and easier than TIP! It definitely needs some cutting off it (quite a bit) to fit on to turbo and gear linkage cables removing as well as the bracket for hard water pipe. Once it was on properly it took a mate with a pry bar to get the bracket for gear cables back in place while I got the bolts in. Seriously tight! Basically I cut the first TIP that I fitted and when I was going up the jubilee on the turbo spigot the jubilee kept slipping off. I too tried to remove the gearbox cables and put them on after but was impossible by myself so just soaked it in hot water to soften the silicone and and some lube, was a hard one but nice to be done. No you don't sound stupid, before I bought this car I didnt even know what both of those things were good for. The catch can collects a load of vapour and oil that would otherwise go into the intake of the car and get burnt. Its not a lot at all but over weeks it collects in the catch can. There is no performance gain from deleting the EVAP but its connected to some of the other parts you deleted from the engine bay, clears up some clutter and is one less thing to go wrong. Hope this helps

What are the benefits from Doing all the deletes can someone explain please 2001 1.8t mk4 gti look g for any advice on this
@SPOOLINUP3 жыл бұрын
Removing vacuum hoses from the engine bay will lessen the likelihood of future vacuum leaks as these 1.8t engines suffer from them. It also de-clutters the engine bay massively, the combi valve, vacuum hoses, SAI etc take up a lot of room. So you are future-proofing your engine. By removing parts and hoses that could fail you are making it more reliable. I realised when I did the deletes that it freed up a lot of room in areas that would have helped me when I was doing my TIP and other mods so I would have done the deletes first if I knew this. Vacuum leaks can be hard to find, once the deletes are done you can the software deleted from the ECU so you get no engine management light and then its like they were never there. Read the thread in the description and Google it because im sure there are more benefits too.

If you click on the guide in the description there is a list of bits that you need. You can Google each but and it should come up, if you still struggle let me know as I did this a while back but might be able to find some links

Hey man, I made that kit myself. You can find all of the bits online. Use the link in the description of the video which takes you to a guide on a MK4 forum and its all listed there. I used Ebay, Amazon and Google to find the bits.

Good luck with the job but just don't block the EVAP off like I did, you need to let it vent to atmosphere. www.vwvortex.com/threads/diy-ultimate-sai-n249-pcv-evap-delete.4893472/

Did not expect a response, but thanks, man, your video helped me a lot. I just finished the project up yesterday. I will definitely have a look at that EVAP section. I blocked it off already.
@SPOOLINUP Жыл бұрын
@donay-robingroenewald3210 I apologise as I don't always get notifications for comments. Unblock the EVAP because it's better to let it vent, this will allow the vapours to escape rather than build up in pressure. Just take the blanking cap off if you fitted it to the canister.

Dont play with the evp your going to be sucking so much fuel its not funny. The deletes dont gain any power just makes it looks tidy under the hood. The catch can is the only gain in doing any of it

Deleting the N249 can improve performance with a remap. Why would deleting the evap affect fuel consumption?
@kurtlazarus17023 жыл бұрын
It dont do nothing in hp even with a tune. I tune cars for a living. The only time you see big power diffrence is when you stroke the motor. Bigger turbo ect you can chuck a shit load of money at the stock 1.8t but your limited you can get a bit more out of a agu motor but not much. Stock ko3 15 pis boost is max with a tune but it still runs out of puff in high rev range. Putting pod filters and pulling pcv vaules and evap out will not do nothing. Pull it all out get a good computer plug it in and look at your fuel trims. The ecm are slow as shit in 1.8t vws and cant adjust values quick anoth ether 1 minite its running lean the next rich tps starts to hunts back and forth. Then starts throwing throttle body vaule and tps codes the list goes on. Stroke it big turbo better engine mounts and mod the pasanger side engine mounting points on the engine block as its prone for snapping with high hp big turbo custom tune injectors fuel pump ect and standard copper spark plugs heat range 7 ngk platnum blow out at hi boost.

To be honest with you mate im not looking to spend loads of money on this car with stroker kits, forging, turbos, LSDs, wheels, tyres, suspension etc. Next thing you know you have spent all of your life savings on a car that is worth not much more than when you started. Its just a bit of fun for me along with many other people and the reason why we choose the 1.8t is because its cheap to mod. Thanks for all your info mate 👍🏽

@@kurtlazarus1702 Deleting the N249 doesn't increase hp but can help with performance as it has control over the diverter valve, the delete is recommended for stage 2 map. The deletes are worth doing to minimise chance of getting vacuum leaks which are very common on these old engines. You can get an AUM with the K03s to stage 2 for little money and they will make around 230hp. That's an 80hp increase from stock for some fairly simple mods and enough for me on a 19 year old FWD hatchback. Why do you think deleting the evap would effect fuel consumption?
@SPOOLINUP3 жыл бұрын
The reason I did mine was to futureproof the engine from the common vacuum leaks, to de-clutter the engine bay and of course ive heard it is a good move to make when tuning a 1.8t. I always wanted a cool turbo charged car that I can have fun with that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. To many people I am sure the 1.8t cars have offered thrills for little or no money. Well said @Not Applicable
