It's the best car on the planet, in my opinion (TDI, that is). It's worth enduring the ridiculous proceedure required to replace the heater core. The rest of the car seems to last forever.

Back in the day, heater cores were accessible behind a couple of clips either under the dash, or under the hood. What on gods earth were the engineers smoking who thought it was a good idea to put it behind the dash so you had to tear it completely apart to get to it. Sometimes insanity prevails.

Lol, that starter noise. I let mine go for a while and felt bad about scaring people when it'd start near them. Replaced my starter and the first one from Pure Energy had a bad solenoid, kept getting stuck on. So I sent it back, got a Bosch reman unit. That one failed in relatively short order, so warrantied it. Finally been good since. Might've been better off sticking with my original noisy starter.

If you're having trouble keeping up, you can slow down the video speed. If you're on a cell phone it should be in the top right corner of the video under settings. You'll look for playback speed and click that, then change it to the speed you want.

Great job and video! Question: when you did the blend doors before, was there improvement on the amount of air coming out the desired vents? I am guessing that since the foam on the doors disappears over time, the air from the blower basically goes everywhere. So once the doors are re-foamed, is the air directed more efficiently to the vents you want air to come out of? Thanks for the video again!
@tomilaw79962 жыл бұрын
Hello did you fix because i have the same problem and u don't know what to use
@SFlores19792 жыл бұрын
@@tomilaw7996 Yes i did. I used this other video as a guide. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGeqeaCwp5yod6s Air is routed much better. I found that the air box behind de radio area was not installed properly from when the heater core was changed out. I used new foam tape for all the mating surfaces of the vents and the air box. On the blend doors I used HVAC tape. Use a kid or someone with smaller hands to do the door in the back of the air box. Hope this helps.

@@SFlores1979hey I’m getting ready to check out my blender doors and came across this video should I do both blender door and new heater core ? Mine is 01 beetle Tdi and no heat or ac I’m guessing I don’t have the split box and really don’t want to take my dash all the way out the car is already crumbling apart and no telling how much stuff will not go back together once it is apart lol
@SFlores197912 күн бұрын
@@dallondogg hello For the heater core, if it’s leaking, like there is some weird steam-like stuff coming out of the vents when you try to use the heater, then most likely it’s bad. I think yuh will still need need to remove all of it. Since you will have all of it take apart then you could do the blend doors then. It’s a process. I paid someone to do the core for me haha they did not know how much work it would be so I got lucky! The blend doors were done some time after. But I believe it may the same setup: dash needs to come out to get the core swapped :( if when you try to use the AC you get air in all vents (dash, floor, defrost) then most likely your blend doors’ foam is all gone. Have you had foam blow out of the vents when you use the fan? If so, then yeah, you could try to do the blend doors by themselves. But then the core would still need to be done.

Since I bought the car about 10 or so years ago, I put off doing the blend door foam. Then the ac evaporator went out about 4 years ago. Even though I live near the south coast, I put off doing the evaporator. Then finally, this winter, my heater core started leaking. Condensation on cold mornings freezing on the interior of the windshield, making it really difficult and dangerous to drive has me thinking I will just bypass the heater and wait till the summer to fix it. 😆. I really like the car. Just did the t-belt service 16k ago. But the turbo is leaking, the dmf is rattling and I could probably tighten up the front end again. Now, I'm not sure if I should fix it, or turn it into a project car and get something else.
