I agree with the donor car idea. Ive done a few swaps now you always land up with stuff you didn't think you needed. so if you had to buy all of that stuff separate you would land up spending way more. Nice to see some VW content on here. I just wish Mkiv aren't so hard to awd swap vs the mk5 or mk6 or mk7.

Yeah mk4. Different league all around. We have one we did on our channel. I just makes more sense to import an AWD mk4 now. Well as a Jetta at least as they're plenty available.

that ones going to be a bit different as it's getting a gear set. The gist is you just need to use the AWD diff in the FWD transmission and then bolt the angle drive on.

Yall have my fuckin respect big time because im still in the process of awd swapping my tdi wagon and its been a fuckin year... then again going absolutely ham with it and having a fully built awd transmission, a compound turbo set up, fully built suspension, customized fuel system, literally building the car from the ground up but yall got my respect for doing this shit in even a third of the time its taken my ass 😂😂 however disclaimer for everyone else the answer is NOOOOO you cannot do it in a weekend, a week, and really i wouldnt advise you do it at all if you want to do it properly you will nickel and dime yourself at every single corner spending around 12k for doing this to a diesel including the transmission parts etc not even including the labor to build it as finding someone who wants to work on a german transmission is a pain in tbe ass finding someone who wants to build a custom german transmission good fucking luck

I’ve been wanting to do this to my 2014 beetle. It has the 2.5 liter in it and I’ve purchased so many parts to do the turbo build including scale suspension, bushings and dog bone, new axles etc that has to go on. But I haven’t seen anyone do a awd beetle so I’m trying to figure out which haldex I need and the other parts to ensure it is swapped properly. I plan on taking the car apart and taking a few months to get everything put on at once that way it’s ready for dyno/tune.

@@rickm.10 well it's all MK6R/A3 running gear so it will hold up the same as those cars due with power. It may see some track use just for fun, but we have a dedicated drag car and dedicated circuit car to thrash on, which are purpose built. So if it does it will just be for something to do. I don't expect it to break any records or anything. Lol mainly did this so I could take customers out for a rip in to shown them what more power feels like.

Yes. GTI six speed bolts right up to the 07k. Just need to Sand a little off the top of the bell housing to clear the vacuum pump. Use an FSI clutch and flywheel

My Mk6 2 door was bought for daily driving, but it's so hard not to want it big turbo and AWD. But it's just so hard to even consider when I could just go pick up a TT lol. And then the 07k... I actually haven't rebuilt my timing assy because part of me wants to be forced to swap in an 07K when it blows... They just sound so much better lol.

I've owned TTs they aren't practical dailys. Zero trunk space. It looks long but it's like 6" deep and you can't put anthing in it. So as a daily a golf is a much better vechile IMO.

Generally easier/cheaper to buy an AWD car. We didn't get a 2 dr R here, so this was something I wanted specifically. So same case... if you're dedicated to the MK5 GLI then it simply is what it is. :)

Spend less money on a regular golf/jetta 2.5 and a little money on rods and pistons and you have an engine to handle 6-700hp pretty easily. No need to buy an actual TTRS long block.

I want to AWD swap my Jetta mk4 but getting ahold of a TT or R32 rear floorpan is near impossible. You've cut out the spare wheel bay for this swap. If I was to do the same as well as fit the saddle fuel tank from a TT would it work? Or would the rear still require loads of fabrication to get the subframe to bolt up?

There is waaaay more required to AWD swap a mk4. A lot more needs to be cut out. There's a video on our channel of one we did years ago, it doesn't show the process but I think I talk about what's required.

You need to run wires from second sending unit into the cluster. Which pins will depend on your cluster. Just compare to an R cluster wiring schematic.

How did you do the exhaust, did you change the gti back bumper for the center exit?

Although I believe I have a R rear valence with center exit sitting on the shelf. I prefered the outter tips found on the GTIs so I kept the stock valence.

@@willan3 No... the OE GTI exhaust is completely different and will not fit. This car had an aftermarket Magnaflow exhaust on it, which means the very back portion of the exhaust is just Y'd pipes (no muffler or resonator). So the back portion fits. But as soon it goes between the control arms it takes a completely different path between the R and GTI. Which is where I cut it and built a piece with resonator to meet the downpipe.

so ive been wanting to manual swap my 2016 tiguan r line 4 motion (usdm model) and was planning on using a mk6 gti trans and getting the diff you guys used in the video and so that i could keep it awd. i was wondering if this would even be possible ? any information on this would be much appreciated

Can't say 100% as I haven't done what you're asking. I do know the Haldex is different in the Tiguan you'd need to verify the bevel box/angle drive to be sure as that's the only part that matters for what you're doing.

I would love to give you guys my mk4 vr6 to do a bunch of work to but im all the way in wisconsin i want a turbo setup and a manual swap and the motor is really tired or so it seems it might be the shitty auto trans thats in it trying to find a 6 speed currently but ive done some research and it seems like a pain in the ass with wiring with the tip tronic
