MK6 Golf GTI seats in the VR6 MK1 w/ custom SendCutSend brackets - Part 1 | Cali MK1 S2 E2

In this episode I design some adapter brackets to fit MK6 Golf GTI seats to the S&P Automotive universal seat bases for the MK1 Rabbit. These won't be the final seats in the car, but are a temporary solution until I can budget for the seats I want.
Once I had designed the brackets and tested they fit, I sent the designs to SendCutSend who will make them out of steel. Check back for Part 2 for the final install!
In this video I also do a quick cold start on the RS3 with some revving, a look at the interior in the MK6 GTI, and a brief shop tour.

You can make the original key barrel fit the new handles so you have one key for the whole car. It will also fix the jamming issue you had in the old handle if that’s the ignition key.

Looks awesome, I'm planning on doing this in my 84 GTI. Can you move the seats much further forward than they are in the video without the inner side of the seat hitting the trans tunnel, or hitting the max travel of the rails? I'm definitely looking forward to some shots of how the seats move and how close they are to parts of the car.

I didn’t see any clearance issues between the inside rail and tunnel, I think the seat will have its full range of travel on the sliders

@@wobjobs Thanks for the reply. Good to hear, I just found a set from a 2016 GTI in my local auto wrecker's inventory and bought them on their website. Can you measure how long one of the back legs on the S&P bracket is? From the bottom of the plate to the center of the mounting hole. Thanks.

Looks so good!! Been thinking about doing this for months. I would however like to mod them to be in permanently. What are the seat height like? Looks a tad higher than oem

@@johandutoit5627 I would say height is about the same, however the seat is more reclined with the front being significantly higher than the front. Personal preference whether you like that seating position or not. If you’re looking for a permanent solution I would find a way to modify/cut/weld the factory rails to work with MK1 rails instead of using a universal bracket and adapter like I did. My seat sits about 1” off center to the middle.
