Finally time to find out what this thing weights, and what kind of weight loss we'll find with dropping off these hideous US Spec bumpers! Not to mention, how much better does it look without those things?!
@Oh-Jay52
@Oh-Jay52 Жыл бұрын
Uk licence plates are slightly longer than your USA ones and not as deep set, so hence the split front bumper and a licenece plate set between them , Rears had the same shape and set on the boot panel above a one piece bumper , Single skin chromed steel and lovely when shiny 👍 Nice work on the Weight Watchers @ Ford !

My friends and I have gotten a Capri weight down to 1,950 lbs with a 2.0L, a Ford 8 inch rear, a drivers seat, and almost no interior and all glass replaced with plastic except for the windshield.

As a lifelong Ford guy anything that gets those ugly fat bumpers off the otherwise nice looking Capri is a big improvement.

They are sooooo bad and what a horrible weight addition! Think of the performance/handling improvements just from the weight loss alone!

My high school car was a yellow '74; Dad made me sell it when I went to college in '84 because he was tired of paying for repairs. And mine was rustier than yours in several places, even back then. It had spent its life in a Colorado mountain town before I got it. Such a fun car to drive, when it was working.

@@LucoreAuto In Europe, the homologation special RS2600 Capri(what the original Boss 302 was to the Mustang) used split bumpers front and rear for the 1972 year model. The 1973 version used split bumpers in the front and a standard full width bumper in the rear. Yes, I'm was aware of the 70lb the bumpers on the 1974(as well as the later MK2 Capri) weigh. CJ Pony Parts sell a 15 inch version of the factory Capri 13 inch wheel. They are the correct offset and are 6.5 inches wide. Combined with split bumpers front and rear, you'd have a super sharp and unique looking Capri IMO. 👌

Back in the day on my '74 V6 it would ride a full inch higher whenever I removed the bumpers. I did that when I ran it in autocrosses. All that weight gone form the extreme ends of the car really makes a difference.

Definitely use the split bumpers and lose the license plate bracket and smooth out the tail light panel and put a smaller license plate bracket down lower like below the bottom edge of the split bumpers that would be cool and I wonder how many people will notice that factory looking mod

Since the Capri cross member is removeable I have removed it and re-enforced the area where the LCA's bolt to it. Then I redrill the mounting holes outward and upward. How much can be a bit of a guess but I usually keep to 1/2-5/8" of an inch. Then you can slot the upper strut mount to equalize any differences "in side-to-side on camber. I like -1.5 deg. for the street since the car is not driven more than a few thousand miles a year so tire life is not that much of a concern.

Some Capri's came with almost no lower opening and some did. I depends on when they were built as it was a running change during the '74 production run. My Friend's had the opening while my '74 did not. It's only there so that if a dealer installed AC it helped keep the car from overheating. Since my Friends car doesn't have AC I filled the opening. I think if looks better!

RS2600 and RS3100 had split front bumpers as stock. If not Team Blitz sells the brackets for euro bumpers, I think Capri Club International do. The federal bumpers brackets is too bulky to work. Front bumper braket legs is just secured to the body with two bolts each side via two long legs. That big gapping hole in front valance is just on Federal models. Perfect for mounting a intercooler.

capri RS3100 had the track control arm inner bolt-holes drilled further out to increase camber to increase castor on fords, i would grind the shoulder further back on the anti-roll bar, thus bringing the track control arms forward when tightened up. it was never an equal grind to get matching castor figures, ford tolerances were "variable" you are still heavier than the UK models, stronger chassis where the bumper bolts on?
