On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Chicago IL on 10-20-24.
We're looking at a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 in Astro Blue Paint. The car comes with the 455 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Chris Lake. Chris has had this car since 2002. He shares he watched the upper classmen in High School work on their Camaro’s and Mustangs and he thought he’d get the Oldsmobile. Well years after High School he wanted to find another Oldsmobile to bring back those memories from High School and found this one. The Big Dog of HP for Oldsmobile, so when Chris did it, he did it right.
ENJOY!

Great color. I was surprise the wheels weren't the same color as the blue paint. I thought they always matched. This car is really in great shape. It loooks brand new. The exhaust sound was nothing but perfection!!! Man alive...and then the revving! Loved it. I remember seeing a lot of 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass autos back in the day....but very few were 442s! Beautiful example of a 1970 Olds 442!

Hey big bro LOU!! You 2 guys are like my big brothers right there (what a team! You really look like brothers!) and are awesome. Oh man, ya got me with this beauty. That rear 3 quarter view? Hell's YUP. My sneakers flew off and those lightweight, girl crazy JV baseball jock tube socked stocking feet were up and twitching REAL FAST. But now I'm knocked out (as always) 😵and need to be carried off lol 🤣. Which one of you guys has me slung over his 1 shoulder, my now limp white with blue stripes on top baseball stocking calves 'n feet dangling-you or Chris? And which big bro is carrying my floppy sneakers (knockout jock slippers)? Toss me and my slippers in the back and fire up that 455. WOW! Intoxicating all around, Lou. These 442's are some of my faves, and this blue beauty is one of the best I have ever seen. Hey! I went to a car show in Flemington, NJ last weekend-so fun. There was a red AMC Javelin that had me out of my sneakers and KO'd real quick lol 🤪. American treasures, all....thanks big bro Lou! JV Johnny ⚾⚾

What a beautiful 442 nice and yellow although I prefer white or the gold color myself but still a nice looking car? very Sharp the only drawback of that car was the the centerpiece that came down in front of the hood what I call the headknocker when I used to see my car shows with the hood Rays they would have a yellow flag hanging from that centerpiece😊

Hi Pete, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Yes, I've hit my head several times over the years when I film a 1970 Olds 442, Cutlass or F85. The yellow flag is a good idea, Lou

Another fantastic video // Mr. Lou I had a question about the his and her shifter that you see on late 1960s and early 1970s cars, is this like the early version that you now see on cars since the beginning of the 21st century that some models call “tap shift” on the steering wheel ? And some models have down on the gearshift, you can move the lever over and shift up and down with the + and - ?
@loucostabile
@loucostabile 13 күн бұрын
Hi Joseph-Frank, Regarding the shifter, I called it in the video a "Slap stick" and Oldsmobile calls it the "Dual-gate Shifter". If you move the shifter to the right and put it in "1" and move up, yes, you control the gear the transmission up to "3". Hope that answers your questions, Lou

My uncle had a 1970 442 W30 in 1970. Was this the original blue? My uncles was darker I’m sure. Maybe they had two shades of blue. My dad had a 70 Tornado. We were on vacation in Ohio and they both opened them up, the “Toro” kept up and both got up to about 150 (if I remember right)

Thanks, maybe close to 150……..Interestingly, many 1970 s were underrated: we got a new 1970:Dodge Coronet 500-383 /4BBL/ Dual 2.5/in EXHAUSTS,Turquiose (supposedly 310 HP++?)::especially as Dealer was next door to my Pharmacy in AUG1970.. Actually, the $3000 price ( the **Olds/ Boss/Corvette) much expensive/ Insurance/Down Payments ) helped : BUT INCREDIBLY strong MOPAR engine/ Tranny mix…. INTERESTINGLY, a FORD DEALER Dealer could not let me “” TEST DRIVE “ a 70 BOSS MUSTANG, but MOPAR DEALER gave me a open Pick (* had a 70 DART 340GSP ((?))M DEALER Prepped, that imALMOST BOUGHT), etc.. incidentally, I seen Superbird in Spring 1970, Downtown Lafayette INDIANA :: to long, dramatic Aero Spoiler )….. Anyways, kind if weakness fOR MOPAR, sort of easy to upgrade too((* oddly GTX/RT stuff kind if problematic to fi Coronets……etc.

No power brakes; radical cam= vacuum too low for vacuum diaphragm assist. GM Hydroboost would have been a nice safety option or maybe this was not yet available. Also the spec sheet shows 3.42 locking differential which would be a good choice with 500 lb.ft or torque on tap..

It's not a four-fourty-two? It's a four -four-two! Why do people keep doing that? Some of The repair manuals even say that? I've heard the people who are doing some of the adds saying that it was Not to be said that way? And correctly stated the right way to say it? I'm not trying to say anything bad about the guy? He even owns one? And he still says that? It's probably just a grammar thing? But he knows better than to say it that way too!

One day I might find out why Australian Chrysler Valiant's from 1971 onwards, have , from the factory, the same design of steel wheel as on this car ( and other Oldsmobiles) , although, on the Valiant, they are 14inch diameter, not 15. Does anybody know who made those wheels for Oldsmobile? . Another similarity with Oldsmobiles, and the the high performance versions of the Australian valiant Chargers, is the vertical stripe on the front fenders. 🤔

after all these videos you are still clueless about cars you can tell its an automatic w30 by the engine sound it has the milder w31 cam. 4 speed had the 328 duration cam. the hood is fiberglass with metal shell.the car is a 442 not a four forty two that is not a slap stick it is a dual gate shifter that paperwork is not documentation the car is a real w30. check the vin and tag on trans to ensure it is a real w30 if you dont have a broadcast card or build sheet

The owner said the hood was steel but he was wrong in fact some of his advertisements say its fiberglass. Almost all stick cars from the muscle car era had more agressive cams than automatic cars ( only your engine builder/ machinist/ engineer would know for sure)🙂
