Great color. I was surprise the wheels weren't the same color as the blue paint. I thought they always matched. This car is really in great shape. It loooks brand new. The exhaust sound was nothing but perfection!!! Man alive...and then the revving! Loved it. I remember seeing a lot of 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass autos back in the day....but very few were 442s! Dana "60" Glass. The "head knocker" center of the hood was also on the '70 Cougar. The W30 package started in '66 with the 3 carb set up on the 400 with the forced air induction openings in the bumper under the headlights. '67s I've seen had forced air openings between the headlight/signal light space or below the front bumper, '68-'69 W30/W31 were both below the front bumpers, except for the Hurst/Olds which air was forced through the hood. '70-'72 Ralleye 350, W30/W31 all went through the hood. Great package.

Dana "60" Glass. Oldsmobile was GM's experimental division. The 442 was a police pursuit option for the Cutlass/F85 in 1964 in response to the sister Pontiac GTO. It became available mid year 1964, and sold exactly 2,999 units. It originally stood for (4) barrel carb, (4)speed on the floor, and (2) dual exhaust with 330 cid Rocket V8. In '65 it stood for (4) 400 cid Rocket V8, (4) barrel carb, (2) dual exhaust. '66 forward was the separate model name until '72 when it became an option for the Cutlass.

Another fantastic video // Mr. Lou I had a question about the his and her shifter that you see on late 1960s and early 1970s cars, is this like the early version that you now see on cars since the beginning of the 21st century that some models call “tap shift” on the steering wheel ? And some models have down on the gearshift, you can move the lever over and shift up and down with the + and - ?
@loucostabile2 ай бұрын
Hi Joseph-Frank, Regarding the shifter, I called it in the video a "Slap stick" and Oldsmobile calls it the "Dual-gate Shifter". If you move the shifter to the right and put it in "1" and move up, yes, you control the gear the transmission up to "3". Hope that answers your questions, Lou

Thanks, maybe close to 150……..Interestingly, many 1970 s were underrated: we got a new 1970:Dodge Coronet 500-383 /4BBL/ Dual 2.5/in EXHAUSTS,Turquiose (supposedly 310 HP++?)::especially as Dealer was next door to my Pharmacy in AUG1970.. Actually, the $3000 price ( the **Olds/ Boss/Corvette) much expensive/ Insurance/Down Payments ) helped : BUT INCREDIBLY strong MOPAR engine/ Tranny mix…. INTERESTINGLY, a FORD DEALER Dealer could not let me “” TEST DRIVE “ a 70 BOSS MUSTANG, but MOPAR DEALER gave me a open Pick (* had a 70 DART 340GSP ((?))M DEALER Prepped, that imALMOST BOUGHT), etc.. incidentally, I seen Superbird in Spring 1970, Downtown Lafayette INDIANA :: to long, dramatic Aero Spoiler )….. Anyways, kind if weakness fOR MOPAR, sort of easy to upgrade too((* oddly GTX/RT stuff kind if problematic to fi Coronets……etc.

No power brakes; radical cam= vacuum too low for vacuum diaphragm assist. GM Hydroboost would have been a nice safety option or maybe this was not yet available. Also the spec sheet shows 3.42 locking differential which would be a good choice with 500 lb.ft or torque on tap..

It's not a four-fourty-two? It's a four -four-two! Why do people keep doing that? Some of The repair manuals even say that? I've heard the people who are doing some of the adds saying that it was Not to be said that way? And correctly stated the right way to say it? I'm not trying to say anything bad about the guy? He even owns one? And he still says that? It's probably just a grammar thing? But he knows better than to say it that way too!

Hi Rick, Okay, Four-four-two :-) Lou

I'm sorry for sounding harsh about it, and it almost seemed like it shamed the brand name and model of the car? And I have always thought of the Oldsmobile as well built and it has a really tough and firm stance look about the car, with real raw power! And it seemed like the right thing to say, at the time? And it was also the correct way to say it?

One day I might find out why Australian Chrysler Valiant's from 1971 onwards, have , from the factory, the same design of steel wheel as on this car ( and other Oldsmobiles) , although, on the Valiant, they are 14inch diameter, not 15. Does anybody know who made those wheels for Oldsmobile? . Another similarity with Oldsmobiles, and the the high performance versions of the Australian valiant Chargers, is the vertical stripe on the front fenders. 🤔

after all these videos you are still clueless about cars you can tell its an automatic w30 by the engine sound it has the milder w31 cam. 4 speed had the 328 duration cam. the hood is fiberglass with metal shell.the car is a 442 not a four forty two that is not a slap stick it is a dual gate shifter that paperwork is not documentation the car is a real w30. check the vin and tag on trans to ensure it is a real w30 if you dont have a broadcast card or build sheet

Lou- you do a great job! Most of us don't expect you to be a master mechanic and know all of the details. Keep up the great work!

The owner said the hood was steel but he was wrong in fact some of his advertisements say its fiberglass. Almost all stick cars from the muscle car era had more agressive cams than automatic cars ( only your engine builder/ machinist/ engineer would know for sure)🙂
