Interference is on the offense or fans and usually results in an out. Obstruction is on the defense and results in at least one base being awarded, regardless of an apparent putout. A defensive player holding the ball may be anywhere on the field, but without the ball he cannot hinder any base runner.

They've really got to revise the rules in regard to batter interference with the catcher. Almost all them are either the batter not doing a thing after swinging or intentionally caused by the catcher through a motion that would never have gotten the ball to where they're supposedly trying to throw.

@@Sora-ING there’s rules weather it was or was not Rule 6.01(a)(1) If the pitched ball deflects off the catcher or umpire and subsequently touches the batter-runner, it is not considered interference unless, in the judgment of the umpire, the batter-runner clearly hinders the catcher in his attempt to field the ball.

@@Sora-ING but it was with out intent so it’s dead. The batter should’ve gotten off to the side of the batters box and the catcher should be aware of his/her surroundings. Interference would be like the batter throwing the bat to trip the catcher or pushing or knocking the ball out of the glove or cleating the player with intent to get on the bag or get a run in from third. The first was just pure ignorance from both side

It's actually not an easy call to make, even from the outfield umpire's position (and 6-man mechanics are also never used outside the playoffs, so this was an unusual position for him as well).

The first one would be hard to call either way. They was both looking up at the all. Second one the runner ran over the 3rd baseman and held him down. Interference on the runner. 3rd one the runner was two far from the base he is out.

Disagree... The box does not always protect the batter. This was a batted ball. An offensive player cannot hinder a fielder making a play on a batted ball, accidental or not. The box WOULD protect the batter from interfering with a THROWN ball from the catcher (as in his throwing to a base to make a play on a baserunner following a pitch).

That second clip was a bullshit call. A good call, but bullshit. The fielder didn't try to interfere, but due to the bad throw, the runner hustled to take advantage of it and it happened

@@mikek82 in this case, there is. It was definitely the right call, but also one of those plays where it was literally the result of something else in it. In that instance, the best thing that could've been done is to just allow the runner to go back to third. That way neither side would have to deal with an ending that would've been controversial, while also not blaming a fielder for something that isn't their fault

@@falcon1378 Your argument would be wrong. Because of the obstruction, there is no way the runner would not be awarded home on such a close play at the plate. You can't ignore the obstruction which hindered the runner.
