Actually very strategically smart. The batter lines up their timing with the pitcher movement, so if he can throw off their Rhythm with that extra kick, I’m sure it works.

Cortes is rated fairly. No one is saying he's this elite pitcher. We all know he isn't like a Walker Buhler or anything. He knows he doesn't have the best stuff, so he uses mind games to help get him over.

Everything a pitcher does is trying to deceive the batter. That’s like…. his whole job. Curve balls, sinkers, knuckleballs, tricky sequences, non verbal cues etc - are all deceit. If what he’s doing works at all in that it tricks the batter - then this is doing his job.
