Ejections are the best way to determine how good or bad umpires are in my opinion. Each and every one of them is going to make terrible calls at some point, it’s just too hard to rank them by accuracy. The good umpires are the ones who only reserve ejections for when either a player’s temper is very hot (self-explanatory), when a play commits an unsportsmanlike conduct (like a pitcher retaliating with a HBP after allowing a home run), or when tensions are heightened (like ejecting a pitcher for hitting someone with a fastball after warnings were issued). The terrible umpires eject players when there’s no tension in-game (the first clip) or when the ejected player has no temper (second and third clip)

I have said before, these umps get a real tough guy look when they throw an ejection. Its like they think they accomplished a great feat of strength and physical prowess. If MLB reviewed ejections, no doubt they would find every single one justified, based on what "might have" been said. So there would never be a fine or suspension. We need to make umps reluctant, and the only way I see absent MLB assessing discipline is to make the ump stay after the game to write out a detailed report, longhand, of the entire incident. Alone. No help from anybody. Maybe one or two will stop and think "is it worth the paperwork?" Its not much, but I don't see MLB doing anything punitive. I contacted MLB about umpire behavior being unprofessional some 25 years ago. I got an actual dead-tree response supposedly signed by the Commissioner himself, promising he was forming a committee on just that problem. You can tell what thst promise was worth. Of course it was just a form letter, one of dozens of templates MLB used. Some minimum wage staffer just takes one off the appropriate stack for the complaint and stuffs it into an envelope. These days a computer judt scans for key words so no human has to spend time reading what customers think.

Too bad a manager doesn't have the power to eject an umpire. That would smarten them up.

Only the commissioner can to that

Actually I’ve seen a few managers eject some umpires which is pretty rare but they will do what they have to do if they feel that their ejection was unfair so they’ll throw the umpires out if the umpires threw them out for absolutely no reason

He was tossed for an equipment violation. That's a fine at the very least (and all three guys involved were fined for this incident), if not an ejection. It's umpire discretion.

The only "Karen ump" ejections I saw in this video was Joe West baiting Mark Buerhle into tossing his glove. The rest were clear "arguing balls and strikes" or equipment violations.

@heyitstoki2 жыл бұрын
@@deew_knird_reeb_ekomS making solid justification of ejections being one step. Saying anything to an ump is auto eject nowadays. "Making a move to 2nd base" is up to umpire discretion and vague. Ejections need to be justified and reversible by review.

If you're saying continue pitching after a bad call, yes I agree with you. Arguing balls and strikes with an ump is an automatic hook majority of the time so it's honestly not even worth it. There's still a game to play.

I think players should only get a fine for hitting an umpire some of them need to catch hands for the crap that pull. Make them think long and hard before blowing calls and tossing out players and coaches at the very least hit them with a fastball right in the mask
