Bregman’s Still a great player, but his decline since 2020 has been concerning at a time (age 26-30) when he should have been at his peak as a baseball player. Well he would be an attractive acquisition he’s definitely lot not worth top dollar.

Juiced baseballs had more to do with his “decline” after 2019. Before last season, he still averaged an OPS of .804 and walked more than he struckout from 2021 to 2023. He also missed a good chunk of 2021 with an injury. 2020 was a funky year and sample was too small, still had an OPS over .800 in only 42 games. That’s why he’s never hit the amount of homers he did in both 2018 and 2019 (both times over 30 HRs, the only times he’s gone ove 30).

His pulled fly balls approach has worked in Houston, but it would scare me in a bigger park, considering he doesn’t actually have a ton of raw power (it’s sort of Isaac Paredes-ish, on its face). The fact that his walk rate cratered also has to be looked into thoroughly. He was definitely helped a ton by the juiced ball, as were many players with fringy raw power, so he might need to change his approach to be more line drive-oriented, and less about trying to yank fly balls out of the yard. Maybe that’s doable since he generally has excellent plate discipline and contact skills, but it would require some major adjustments.

My guess is him being in a contract year, he started swinging away more to try and prop his production up when he didn’t need to in the first place. I think he’ll ditch the approach and go back to what made him good in the first place (plate discipline)

I’d like Mets to keep Iglesias. But they prob won’t give him any sort of valuable contract, which he might want after a good year. McNeil will be back and Mauricio and Acuna are both looking to get some major league time. With Vientos locking up 3rd and Batty still hanging around our infield is very crowded. Though maybe some get traded for SP or OF.

I said it earlier that as a Dodgers Fan, I wish that scouting report never came out and Joe Kelly kept quiet. Because now the Yankees know what they have to work on, and if they actually succeed, they will be a MUCH more difficult team to play. Now the key is, the Yankees have to improve their fundamentals. Imagine being told your fundamentals suck, and they do nothing about it. That would be wild! Thanks Gents!

Even if he somehow gets posted (which is still unlikely), Roki Sasaki isn't eligible to get paid like Yamamoto did last year since he's only 23. He can only get a small signing bonus and would earn the major league minimum over the next couple of years.

Obviously this list isn’t from the perspective of a Mets fan, and the presence of Iglesias makes me think it’s intended to actively troll Mets fans. I’ll bite, but not in the way other Mets fans will. There is no chance the Mets are giving 31-year-old Max Fried and his ready-to-explode forearm/elbow a six-year deal. He’s good at limiting hard contact, but Citi Field does that all by itself, so the Mets really don’t need to pay that much of a premium for a weak contact inducer who doesn’t miss many bats, and is a huge injury risk. Who replaces Alonso’s power? It can’t be Vientos, since he’s already in the lineup (and looks like a prime candidate for major regression, anyway). If this list is on the level, maybe the assumption is that the Mets are going to try to get under a CBT threshold or two, but since they don’t have sufficient internal replacements for all their free agents, that’s a near-guarantee that they’ll miss the postseason. There’s a good chance they’ll miss the postseason anyway (a lot went perfectly for them this year, including Atlanta’s injury troubles), so I suppose it’s better to fail on the cheap, but it seems unlikely they would deliberately take that tack after getting to NLCS Game 6. But even if they did decide to take another step back, and take the huge media/fan hit, why on earth would they also re-sign Iglesias-who had a crazy outlier season that he isn’t going to repeat-when they can just play one of their kids? (For that matter, why is he even on this list? That’s what makes me think this is a troll job.) I suppose they could try to fill some needs via the trade market, which I do think they should explore. Their farm system has some depth, but lacks untouchable, high-end talent, other than maybe Brandon Sproat and Jonah Tong. Their position player prospects are overrated IMO; you’re talking 50 FV and below, MAYBE a 55 if Jett Williams can hit for enough power. Ryan Clifford is just Lucas Duda, Drew Gilbert’s stock keeps dropping, Luisangel Acuña profiles as a utility player, Ronny Mauricio is Javy Báez without the plus defense, Brett Baty probably needs a change of scenery, etc. If packaging some of those guys can somehow net them impact talent, I’m all for it. In contrast to my fellow Mets fans, I don’t think they’re going to OMG SIGN ALL DA PLAYERZZZ!!1! and run a $400mm+ payroll. In fact, I think it’s very likely they’ll be at least a little worse next year, but from a team construction perspective, Fried and Iglesias (again, why is he even on this list?) really doesn’t make much sense to me. Seems more likely that they’d try to do what they did this year, and find the next Manaea and Severino on short-term deals. But I’m willing to hear dissenting opinions.

Dbacks will probably end up with Goldy as DH/1st base with Pavin Smith being the backup at 1st. Im sure theyll be trading a prospect for a 1st baseman prospect. Similar to the Busch trade last offseason the Cubs had.

Bo says he wants to finish his career with Vlad - and LA will be right there to offer them what they both want next winter. I'm a Jays fan, but I think they both want a super team to play on. Jays have tried, but they basically may be down to Soto in order to keep those 2 interested, which doesn't seem likely (not for a lack of attempt, I'm sure).

I suspect the Mets will re-sign Pete, as they really don’t have someone to replace his power (if you say Vientos, slap yourself, because Vientos is already in the lineup and can’t bat twice-and he’s a major regression candidate anyway). Christian Walker at age 34 coming off an oblique injury is a little scary. Pete had a down year, but it wasn’t because he lost top-end power; it was because he was too passive on pitches in the zone. He actually chases and swings and misses less than average, WAY less than most power hitters of his type, and way, WAY less than Vientos.

Two years in a row where the offense just died for months, we could have a 90-win team in Chicago without a drought next year.
