The slo-mo replay on that first one...watching the ump get drilled right in the kneecap had me grabbing my own knee. Ouch. 😖

Back in the day home plate umpires used to hide behind those big black protectors.

They wear them under their shirts now. Thinner, but padding under hard plastic. The big balloon protectors were awkward as hell, and they made the umpire stand a little taller, making it harder to get the low pitch. But I did prefer them on especially hot days.

Unfortunately if Angel was hit by a ball, even if it was an accident, he would call it racist and have the batter, pitcher, and catcher thrown out. Then also Aaron Boone, even if the Yankees aren't playing.

If you're in the MLB it's worth it for sure maybe not anywhere else but umps can make anywhere from 150k to 450k that's definitely worth the chance of getting hit in the MLB

@@123FUG33 yeah because you're start your career in rookie ball and then you got to work your way up to single a and there's a ton of competition and it's going to take you years to get to AAA if you get to that and you're always making little money and staying in crappy hotel rooms just a terrible lifestyle.

@@RlPspeedsACOG About 10% of the umpires in pro umpire school get a minor league contract and less than 10% of those even see action in one major league game. So the odds of making it to MLB are less than 1 in 100 for graduates of the pro schools. The umpires who don't get minor league contracts usually end up doing college or high school games.
