As a former pitcher adding a body-jerk or any additional sudden movement to throw off a batter's timing was always key. The trick is not letting it interfere with your follow-through.

It deff works if it's enough to throw me off as the viewer I can only imagine how much it can fuck you up during a big game under pressure tens of thousands of people shouting and hollering. Yeah that shit will fuck you up I'm surprised pitchers don't do weird little things like that more often. I'm not huge on baseball so I don't know what the limits are to how much you can move around or what kind of gestures your aloud to make can you wave your arms around can you take steps backwards forwards? Is there a time limit to how long you can stall until you have to throw your next pitch?

Technically, there can be a balk with no one on base. It can be ruled a ball.

Fernando Valenzuela should be on this list; I remember him as a child in the 80s looking up at his cap and not at where he was throwing...how could you pick these over him? Fernando had the most weirdest pitch not even looking where he was throwing compared to these you listed that have somewhat strange wind ups but not really because others do these too; but who doesn't look at where they were throwing the ball??

Gary Peters, a White Sox pitcher from the 60's, had a very slow, deliberate wind up and then, all of a sudden, the pitch came in at 90 miles an hour. He lulled hitters to sleep with that motion and then let them have it with the pitch. Very good pitcher too.

What's great about these is that it makes the hitter confused or have the ball go high so it can be caught for an out.

Never been a Yanks fan, but I've always liked Orlando Hernandez pitching form. The way he tucks his leg into his body and nearly grazes his left cheek with his knee. That style takes dexterity to a new definition.

Same here. Always enjoyed Orlando and Livan for that matter.

obv u never heard of the d-train or the 2003 marlins. this was his first CGSO at like 20 years old, eventually won rookie of the year, outstanding pitcher for the first three years of his career. Almost won a Cy Young too. The 2003 Marlins were kind of like the 2015 Mets with very good young pitchers. Except the Marlins actually knew how to get it done.

Since he doesn’t put his other foot down until he throws and he keeps his other foot on the rubber his shimmy is technically part of his motion

@bmxtwentyfive70538 жыл бұрын
Balks are possible with no runners on, example if you drop the ball while on the mound. It just counts as a ball instead of the runners advancing. But to answer the overall question, it isn't a balk
@brads63043 жыл бұрын
Allright Cueto was just brilliant though. That shoulder dance looking away from the batter, totally throws you off. My favorite I think.

I was waiting and hoping Juan Marichal would be in this. He is. With his whoppingly high kick. Very cool looking. I remember trying to pitch like him. But pitching that way takes a lot of time. So base runners can do.... And that high kick didn't (for me) add much speed, and worsened control. Looked cool though.

Jason Isringhausen should have been here. I remember him having his own funky way of setting his lead foot down that threw off many batters' timing. It's as if he's setting his lead foot down TWICE in the same pitching movement - the best way i could describe it. As for pitchers that are still active & pitching today, Nestor 'The Molestor' Cortes has his own way of odd movements designed to mess up hitters & their timing.

Nice list! When I saw Quisenberry on there I thought, what about Tekulve! (but you got to him!) Only two, off the top of my head, that could have been on there that weren't, were Fernando Valenzuela (he didn't look as he delivered, his eyes look up at the lid on his cap) and Mitch Williams, who would nearly be standing backwards by the time he finished delivering.

Tiant was fun to watch. He would occasionally not turn his back to home plate, and use a more normal delivery which threw the timing of the hitters off as well.
