He was blessed with an amazing voice. However that comes with it's own issues. Singing always came natural to him but, he never optimized good technique so as time wore on his lack of voice control and overall technique wore his vocal chords down.

Nah they said someone in the choir hit a high note and that's what they had to start off from and from then on it sort of put them off the notes but they didn't do as bad as fergie

john ken I always liked JT until Brian said in a telephone interview (I forget where) that when BSB were getting established and *NSYNC were following suit, JT met BSB and basically said when shaking Brian’s hand, “I got you down!” Meaning he (JT) was copying Brian (his vocals, mannerisms, attitude etc). Since, I heard that, I’ve lost all respect for JT.
