Before the triple play, most people were probably thinking about how the Padres would face the next batter Ohtani, but then they showed an answer that blew all of that away. Congrats on clinching the postseason.

Friendly reminder this is the first time EVER that a team has clinched a playoff spot with a game-ending triple play. For US to do that against the DODGERS is... wow. By far one of the most insane baseball moments I've ever gotten to witness on live tv. Oh and also, the radio announcers for the Padres said just seconds beforehand, and I quote, "the best case scenario here would be a triple play, but that might be too big of an ask" 💀 Yes I know I reposted the comment but I want more people to know this lol 😅

Roberts' hard-line approach to coaching lost him an important first game. Rojas should have bunted for safety. He left two men on base and missed the comeback win with Betts and Freeman after Ohtani intentionally drew a walk. Rojas cannot be blamed. It was all Roberts' mismanagement of the game.

I believe there were two tactical errors in today’s game. The first was not promptly bringing in a reliever after the starting pitcher gave up a run in the top of the 4th inning. The second was not instructing Rojas to lay down a sacrifice bunt with no outs and runners on first and second in the bottom of the 9th inning, even though Shohei was the next batter. These are not merely hindsight observations. Despite being in first place with a three-game lead over the second-place Padres, the Dodgers have struggled against the Padres this season, making today’s game a must-win. In fact, the Dodgers should approach their games against the Padres as if they were postseason matchups, not just regular-season games. If that’s the case, deploying postseason-level strategies, even those unconventional for the regular season, would be standard practice. In other words, in these three games against the Padres, including today’s, “small ball” should be embraced. Today’s loss to the Padres is, unfortunately, a significant and negative turning point for the Dodgers. With only two more games against the Padres left, it's not the players but manager Roberts who must demonstrate greater tactical awareness.
