Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but in the last video, seems the 1st base runner was trying to steal 2nd (made it to 2nd pretty fast) and was tagged out WHILE the ump was looking at home. Why wouldn't the runner be called out????
@Rio344615 жыл бұрын
Because the pitch was ball four, the runner at first gets to second without being able to be called out because the batter gets first on the walk. CWS were unhappy because the pitch should have been a strike, as the batter swung.

13:05 I remember a day when the local broadcasters didn't embarrass themselves so much...yes yes, it was the ump (who got the call right) who is to blame for Gonzalez tossing his bat and helmet in anger
@markmelchior7262 жыл бұрын
That is not an ejectable offense. It is an equipment violation. The two had a discussion, then Gonzalez was done with the umpire and tossed his equipment for the batboy to retreive. There was absolutely no reason for the ejection unless Gonzalez said something while doing so, which he clearly does not.
@rc24caldwell192 жыл бұрын
@@markmelchior726 Thanks for the chuckle....watch it again....the ump turned and tried to walk away, and Gonzalez kept yapping, then tossed his equipment with aggressiveness...totally deserved ejection, and only a total homer or troll would pretend otherwise.

Baseball umpires are the only major sports referees who stand still through the game. Maybe if they run a bit or switch positions during innings they wouldn't have such short fuses. You don't see overweight or arrogant referees in football or hockey.

Re: the quick pitch. The umpires did not call it. The opposing team called it and then apparently convinced the umpires. Makes no sense.
@SFAPowerhouse5 жыл бұрын
Look at this from the HP Umpire's point of view....when he saw the pitcher going to "set", he was looking straight down and did not get his head up in time to see the "no set". Once the manager came out to debate it, the crew must've heard from the HP Umpire that he did not see any real set. And so, it goes. A correct call made after protest is better than having it wrong for good.
@charliestokes45202 жыл бұрын
The only real question is; did the pitcher quick pitch? Yes he did, clearly. Did the umpires get the right call? Yes they did. Good enough.

I really can’t stand commentators. They think you can say whatever you want to the umpires and they should just take it. 13:10 you can see him say “stop, stop” a couple times and then he throws his equipment. It’s on the rules you can argue balls and strikes and you are subject to ejection if you throw equipment.

@jaydesrochers32765 жыл бұрын
Timothy Hickey umpires have tendencies..personally I love the high strike. That’s not redefining the zone at all. Every umpire will miss a,couple pitches every game. But if you are a player and the plate umpire is giving a few inches off the plate either way, and is consistent with it it’s up to you to swing at that pitch with two strikes. Now an inconsistent zone is something else...inconsistent umpires don’t end up in the majors. They miss pitches occasionally but overall is consistent.
