This happened to me too. I worked in Beauty, and I had two people approaching me asking me if I wanted extra income and they pitched me their makeup “brand”. I forgot what it was. Definitely was scammy MLM vibes. I pretended to play along and be excited. Then I said, “This doesn’t happen to be one of those multi level marketing things, does it?” And they looked shocked and they didn’t answer. I said “I thought so. You’re not going to prey on anyone in here, let alone my department. Get out.” I never called Hardlines 4 so fast 😂😂😂

This one opened the mind palace. Target, 2021, and my already paranoid anti-social virology and security trained mindset spotted a guy tracking woman. He saw me alone in the snackies, backtracked aisle twice and he made a concerted effort to make contact and rub up on me. He got the airhorn scream. Bet he wasn't expecting people of Walmart style defenses. Target really does attract the stalkers
@tweedlebug123

@@UlshaRSidk why but People of Walmart Style defenses just makes me laugh- it's somehow makes so much sense as a descriptor but i can't quite explain why. There's a reason these creeps lurk around Targets- idk, the female clientel just feels a bit more easy pickin's than a lady at Walmart. Walmart shoppers are a force to be reckoned with- just look at the kind of people Wal-marts attract compared to Target. In all seriousness, good for you for defending yourself. You were very brave and i'm not sure i'd be in the same circumstance. I admire you a lot for standing your ground and scaring off a creep when I'd probably be a deer in the headlights at a moment's fright.

Not exactly MLM related, but I just want to say, so many people send you stories and apologize for their writing because English may not be their first language...however they are all great writers! It's already amazing to me (as someone from North East England with only English and a very small amount of French) when people can speak multiple languages but to be able to write in one too is so impressive. You should never have to apologize even if it isn't perfect because you try and that is a dang sight more than many native English speakers!

@@Nylak-Otter I don't know what to say to this without stepping on your toes...let"s say, you should get that checked, okay? The mere fact that you know how much calories you eat each day isn't a good sign at all. And 1200 calories a day is seen as the absolute minimum for any adult woman nowadays. Which means, you are one the verge of starving yourself, no matter how short you are. And with these 1200 calories, your diet must contain a lot of variety and be very balanced. And that's even harder to do the more one restricts themselve...

@@uutdiegodzilla3821 Trust me, I'm obnoxiously well-monitored, since I had an organ transplant a few years ago. I'm just vegetarian and lean (I'd be vegan, except I get low on calcium without an animal-based source, and due to the transplant I have lighter bone scans than I should for my age/activity level). That's also why I know pretty much exactly how many calories I eat on average, since I had to record basically everything for awhile. I don't keep track of it anymore, but I'm still aware of it. So yeah, I eat a wide variety of everything except meat, but I am supplemented and always will be, as well. I also have an active lifestyle, I just have really low calorie demands at this point. It's just been that way for the last decade for me. And I don't actively restrict myself; I graze throughout the day, so I'm never hungry. I'm basically a goat.

Hannah: I was in Target (where I NEVER go) a couple days ago and overheard this gem, which immediately made me think of this latest video. I thought you'd appreciate the unexpected exchange/humor between the generations, especially since the location matched up with the header of this upload! (Long, but funny.) Elderly woman (at least in her 80s): "That nice makeup lady came by yesterday." Woman in her 50s: "You didn't let her in, did you, mom?" EW: "Of COURSE I did, honey. She's lovely. We had coffee and chatted for hours." Woman: **sighs** "Did you buy anything this time?" EW: "Just a couple things. You know I needed lipstick." Woman: "You have like FORTY lipsticks." EW: "A lady has to be prepared with every shade." Woman: "MOM. You have GOT to stop buying from her. She's with an MLM. It's a scam. It's overpriced. You can get the same shades here for less than HALF the price. See?" (they were in the cosmetics section.) EW: **slight pause** "MLM? Isn't that that rapper? What does he have to do with lipstick?" Woman: **even longer pause** Woman: "Oh my god. Mom, that's EMINEM. An MLM is a pyramid scheme. A scam. A money sink." I had to walk away at that point. It would have been obvious I was just standing there to listen to the conversation otherwise (nobody can be that confused about what color lip gloss to pick for that long of a stretch. Plus, if I didn't move along, there was a chance security might think I was up to something, and I didn't feel like explaining the Eminem/MLM thing to them, either.). About three aisles over I let some laughter leak out, which made a couple shoppers nearby look over at me and move their shopping cart just a little bit over, afraid that my unexplained outburst might be contagious, and when you live in Grand Rapids (home of Amway and a giant Dutch Christian Reformed community) there's an unwritten rule you're not supposed to have unscheduled fun, especially while you're on your own and running errands. I further broke the rule two more aisles later when my mind replayed Zeke's incredible parkour stunt up the wall, causing me to let loose a snort of laughter, which earned me a tutting sound from a nearby old lady who had clearly just surfaced from the Sucking On A Bag of Lemons section of the store. Worth it. Zeke's amazing. Sorry for the long comment. I thought you (or maybe one of the other subscribers. Maybe.) would appreciate it.

I LOVE story 3. So proud of the contributor for listening to her gut and not being afraid to get weird in order to get out of that situation. This is what I want the takeaway from that to be: YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE POLITE. You do not have to be civil and act like a normal person if that courtesy has first been denied you. Obviously your reaction does not always need to be as extreme as in this story; in this case, the couple had crossed some extreme boundaries to begin with, though, so it was warranted. But for instance, there are all the stories of people being asked to come to what they think is a get-together at a coffee shop, or a presentation in a hotel, or something, and once the pitch started they say that they felt "stuck" or "trapped" or "obligated". In most cases, they were not physically trapped! The huns are using social conventions against you, and you do not need to go along with that. If someone asks you out for coffee but then starts pitching you, you stop them. You say you are not interested. If they persist, you leave. If they don't let you get in a word edgewise-if they physically do not stop talking to allow you to say you're not interested-you literally get up in the middle of their sentence and leave. You can just do that. You can just go. (This doesn't only apply to MLM pitches, either. If people are imposing on you in a way that violates your safety or other important rights, screw politeness and just leave.)

I had been thinking of submitting a story about Longaburger! My grandmother had been a sells rep for them for decades, all the way up until they went under. I have sooo much of their stuff, and it was honestly one of the reasons I never thought it, and companies like it were pyramid schemes and never thought they were bad in any way.

Also referring to the Target story, I seriously would have done the same. Anytime I am with my child in public, the amount of warnings that go around in my brain and what I need to be aware of especially when people come up to you already acting strange and have been following you around. No joke, I would have asked for workers to walk with me to my car too. I am so glad she spoke up and said something. 👏

Longaberger baskets were ALL the rage in the 90's when I was a kid. EVERYONE had them and they were/are actually pretty good quality. As usual, they were/are very expensive but you can often find nice ones at thrift stores for a bargain nowadays if you're into that type of aesthetic. My mom has a napkin holder basket from Longaberger and she still uses it to this day.

This first story is already annoying. Many years ago my dad was morbidly obese and sought out help to lose weight and get healthy, after his baby brother suddenly died at only 48 years old from a heart attack. He saw a dietician or nutritionist (don't remember which, the one that requires a college degree though) who made a very extensive, personalized plan for him with recipes, healthy swaps, snack ideas the whole 9. But I think the reason this plan was so successful - he lost 110lbs in 2-3 years! - was that there was nothing fully restricted or demonized. He could still enjoy sweets, salty goodies, and fatty foods, in moderation. That's always the key! A couple hundred calories in pretzels isn't going to make or break someone's weight loss journey, nor is a piece of cake or a few cookies. It's been proven over and over again the more restrictive a diet plan is, the more you're likely setting yourself up for failure!

so wild that same kind of thing happened to my sibling and i at target! a woman stopped us in the middle of the aisle by complimenting my outfit. i said thanks and kept walking but then she sucked us into a conversation about thrifting. THEN she brought up her MENTORS saying she knew a very wealthy couple that was helping her lmao. this was when i had just started watching anti-MLM so all the alarm bells were ringing. my sibling however had just turned 18 and was excited to have an adult conversation and be treated as an adult by another person. i was so creeped out. honestly my thoughts were “this is a scam or human trafficking”

I was raised with four brothers and a father who did not suffer fools and unwelcome phone callers. We women need to learn to say, "No.", and simply hang up without waiting for an acknowledgment from the caller. Seriously. Rudeness/manipulation should never be met with anything but disconnection. I know this is a skill that many women find difficult to acquire but it is a necessity, otherwise you are allowing people to steal your time and your peace of mind which are very valuable because they are yours to steward, not theirs. And you have value beyond pale regardless of how much or little money you have in your pocket.

Story 3 reminded me of a similar situation, but not with an MLM. I used to go to a local nature center and walk the trails a lot while listening to music. Was walking my normal path when I walked by this couple (maybe 20 years old, give or take) who was reading bibles. I would occasionally look over my shoulder in case some joggers were coming up behind me, and I noticed the couple had gotten up and were walking on the trail a decent ways behind me. I didn't think much of it until the trail started to snake around and they were suddenly a lot closer to me (I generally walk faster than most people). I sped up a bit to try and get more space between us, and finally couldn't see them anymore while I was on the path back to my car. When I got to the parking lot, I could see them bee lining for me from the other end of the parking lot. Being very familiar with the trails, I became extremely worried because I knew the only way they got over there was to jump a fence off trail. I had put my hand down into my pocket to get a hold of a knife I carry and was trying to mentally prepare for what I might have to do, when they said "Hey, do you know jesus?" I was slightly relieved, yet still freaked out to the point where I could barely even talk. They did eventually let me go, but still was a terrifying experience.

😂😂 "Hey, do you know jesus?" "No, but you're about to meet him." 💀💀💀 Legit, though, that's scary. I'd say that they should know better than to follow strangers, but they're probably in a cult and would not.

Omg this reminds me of a time a big group of Mormon boys on bikes rode up on me while I was outside alone smoking a cigarette. It was late and dark outside and I just see this huge group of men on bikes roll ip and SURROUND me. My heart started racing and I went into fight or flight. They asked how my night was going and once I noticed their outfits and realized they were Mormons I said “I’m catholic!!” And ran back into my apartment. Lmao I haven’t been to mass since i was a teenager and definitely don’t practice Catholicism anymore but i thought saying that would rebuke them like an exorcist

Pretty sure I live in the same area as the woman approached at target. There is a local Facebook page and this couple goes viral every few months for approaching new moms and pregnant women. They now have a young daughter who they bring with them. They walk around the target parking lot (as they aren't allowed inside anymore) and they also hang out at a local park. MANY women are very concerned about being tr**ficked, but it's just huns on a rampage

I was talking with my mom yesterday, and she said she was meeting with her "coach" at 3. I immediately froze and felt panic "Coach? What kind of coach?" "Oh a life coach" she says. I was sure she was being conned by an mlm rep and started freaking out, Turns out it wasn't. It was a real government-referred coach to help her with her health issues. And MLM's have ruined the word. xD
