Also, collegen? That is used for skin elasticity, aka wrinkles. I don't get why kids would need that. It was probably just something they made up to sell collegen to kids that don't need it. There are things that promote muscle building and joint help like glucosamine and a well balanced diet with proper amount of protein. Also, there are good exercises including yoga to help with mobility and joint health. (I am a biomedical engineer who learned about this in college, I also have joint issues and was recommended glucosamine by my doctor, it is just a supplement)

I am surprised that there have been no afab people or women who have freaked out and beat the huns with a broom or something. People coming into your house when you are femine and you are alone is super dangerous. It may be that we as a society teach women that their safety isn't valid if it hurts someone's feelings and we should just take it.

Not gonna lie, if I can't keep or force them out, I'd probably get scared enough to go into my dad's room and pull a gun on them and order them out, and I'm probably not the only person who would do this. Their tactics not only put the homeowner at risk, but they could probably put the salesmen at risk too, and not just for legal reasons.

To the martial artist who didn’t get her black belt. I recommend finding a different studio that will respect your current rank and help you get your black. My instructor is in the same MLM as my mom, but she never mentions it to students, and I respect her so much. I wouldn't be surprised if, not only are Kirby sales reps trained to put their foot in the door, but if the rationale for doing so is to deliberately intimidate women who are the ones most likely to be at home. I am waiting for the day when the news headline is "Kirby salesman killed by woman in attempted home invasion".

When my grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015, I was bombarded with oil huns trying to sell me things. I even bought into them because desperate people do desperate things I guess 😢 My grandma passed right before my daughter was born in 2016. The Kirby thing is frightening. I had that happen with 3 guys when I was in college. They were selling magazine subscriptions b/c they wanted to “earn a trip, and didn’t I want to help?” The first one followed me around on campus at night until I signed up. The second came to my apartment and wouldn’t take his foot out of the door. The third followed me around my apartment complex until I threatened to blow a r@pe whistle. I just slammed the door without explanation to a couple more that showed up at my home in later years. It is such predatory activity, and there is no need to be polite. If they call you a ******* b*tch on their way out, you’ve handled the situation correctly. Call the police if they loiter.

Can we talk about how the aunt in the last story was setting her young niece up to be abused? Like I don't know if that person realizes how lucky they are that someone else with even less good intentions for them found out they had been primed to hide things from their mother like that... It's just really scary to think about what kind of situation they could have found themselves in all thanks to their aunt...

Zeke's trilling always makes me happy! My Dad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma 21 days before he died from it. When we found out how widespread the cancer had spread through his body, his change in personality the previous couple of years all of a sudden made sense. I cannot imagine how much his personality would have changed if he'd had a brain tumor removed. I'm so sorry for that one daughter whose Dad changed so drastically. My heart goes out to her.

My aunt had a benign, estrogen driven brain tumor. She had one of the best neurosurgeons in the US but even with very careful lazer surgery, she had a personality change. That is also when she went from chemo to using "holistic" methods to treat her cancer. Brain damage has been repeatedly proven that it can cause changes in personality. It is common to hear about serial killers who got head injuries as kids.

The brain tumor story is so interesting. I am NOT a doctor, but work closely with doctors who see kiddos with brain and other cancers. From what I’ve gathered in my experience, basically, the brain gets used to functioning around the tumor/“tendrils.” When the tumor is removed, depending on location and size, parts of the brain can collapse or simply just stop communicating in the way it was formerly able to. SO interesting… the brain is such a unique and complex organ, but the personality change doesn’t surprise me from that story. It’s so individual, but still, so strange to think about. Sending love to that person and their family 🫶🏼
@kristykravchenko7966
@kristykravchenko7966 9 ай бұрын
The thing about brain surgery - I did also run into this kind of information a few times. There are parts of the brain that work as a "brake" for certain emotions, and with some brain treatments those parts are severed, which causes a person to become someone completely different. That could show as anger issues, adrenaline junkie, and such.

But my mom and I were close and I felt comfortable telling her things, because she knew I was a _child_ and wouldn't punish me for what some adult forced onto me lol. Yeah, they didn't stay friends after that. In case you're wondering, it was Avon's nasty mascara I had a bad reaction to. But I kept the bottles of body lotions she gave (including an anti cellulite cream iirc - *she gave this to a NINE YEAR OLD),* though they never worked well and I never used them. I only threw them out years later after I realised that skincare has an expiration date and these products are doing nothing but collecting dust on my shelves. Wish I knew Avon was an MLM sooner, would've thrown those out sooner too.

My husband worked for Kirby for a month... And YES they are trained to put their foot in the door at the beginning of the interaction so you can't close the door on them. A Kirby person will drop a couple of newer sales people off in a neighborhood to just go door to door... and they are taught to do whatever you can to get in the door. My husband left because he sold 3 vacuums in that month but was only paid like 20 because the person on the phone had a personal relationship with one of his sales. The lady gave this couple a huge discount which came out of my husband's check. That was the end... he worked more in that 1 month than he had in a long time (bc he had been looking for work for months with nothing, so he put his all into it even though he felt yucky about it... also he NEVER used the foot in the door thing cu he thought that was beyond yucky) and only made 20.

Is there MLM adjacent type businesses? Ok, I was pitched Tri-Star vacuums when I was looking for a job soon after I dropped out of of first try in college. Tri-Star hits all the MLM buttons, including “interviews” where you are more told about the business. The biggest difference seemed to be the high pressure sales, rather than recruiting. I think my brother “worked” for them and tried to sell my parents a vacuum just after they were sucked into a Kirby purchase (pun intended). So my question remains what about Tri-Star and other companies like that?

The ‘foot in the door’ technique I remember very well. In the 60s, the Fuller brush men did the same in our neighborhood. My mom and I had a lot of laughs over that because it never worked at our house lol.

Imagine being the small shop owner in story 1 - you compliment a customer on their glasses, and get rewarded with an MLM pitch. That would be horrendously awkward - so glad the woman emailing didn't do it

The dad with the tumor was incredibly sad and disturbing... Not even the MLM aspect but how he changed after the surgery. How hard it must have been for all of them to lose him like that. My heart goes out for them. 💔

@@maryeckel9682 My grandma took care of her mother in her waning years with dementia. When I was a kid, my mom would babysit when grandma had trips and there was hardly any cognizance left. I never really got to know her before the dementia. I lament it; maybe I should reach out and ask how she was like before then.

What stood out to me with the cancer story is that it sounds like the neighbor was peddling this idea that her product could cure anything and that's what the dad remembered. The neighbor seems to have this invisible boundary possibly so she can still think she's a good person of I'll sell it as a cure for this this and this but I'm not going to claim it's a cure for cancer. So to have the dad come back at her like "But you said it does this" must be interesting to see go down. It sounds like he may have remembered or reresearched a lot about the product but lost the ability to think critically on the information and just took people's claims at face value. I wonder if the neighbor questioned her ethics after this. It sounds like she still gave in and sold to him so I'm guessing not.

Went to a Doterra party where the rep told this blatant lie about “some” anonymous customer of hers that was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer but got on oils and later the customer’s test results came back normal. I silently rolled my eyes. I was only there because my friend was into the oil life and wanted to introduce me to it. The party rep kept pressuring my friend to try and recruit me. The obviously fake cancer story turned me off. Finally, my friend told the rep that I wasn’t interested and that my friend only has the account to buy personal stock. She doesn’t plan to be a sales rep. The rep was so mad at her as it meant no downline commissions.

I feel so incredibly sad for the martial arts student. I also left my dojo due to ethical reasons when i was close to testing for my black belt, and it was heartbreaking. Of course you can move to another school, but its so painful when the other students are like family and you have so many good memories from years of training. I hope they found something they love just as much.

This is random, but thank you for acknowledging what a tragedy it is when someone in your family is diagnosed with cancer. I was only 30 when my mom found out she had cancer and people treated me like it was no big deal when she died because "it's the 'natural order' to lose a parent."

I think I was born and bread anti-mlm! My parents HATED Amway! My mom had a friend in Avon...was that an mlm? Mom would occasionally buy me Avon stuff but I recall telling her when I was like 8 years old that it's junk. When I was in a bad life situation living out of state alone a couple tried to recruit me. If I recall the name of it was Evolution...anyway I went to the big conference and looked at the pyramid and was baffled how anyone could get to the top. Yes they wanted me to fill out a card with 10 people I knew; names, numbers, any contact info I told them I don't know anyone! The couple who took me to the conference invited me to their house after, I went because they drove and then I saw it! Pushy attitude and an ENTIRE basement FULL of boxes of stuff! Just nuts to me! Shocker....never heard from them again after that! Much love to the Hannah and I hope every vulnerable person watches her!

Story 3 may be the first time I might truly feel bad for an active boss babe. This kinda feels like she wished to have lots of consistent sales using a monkeys paw and now she has someone she knows she can't help throwing her pitches back at her and demanding to be her client. This is so tragic for everyone that knew the former him, brain surgery and/or trauma can really alter a persons sense of self. I'm sorry for the poor daughter that was brave enough to share this pain and her family's attempts to help this man they once knew so well, whether he is capable of understanding their love or concern for him or not. That's true selflessness, even though they needed outside help in the end, that's the kind of love we all should aspire to share.
