Here's another thing to of as well. What about King Sombra?? I know loads in the fandom think he's dead but I question that. We saw Princess Celestia vaporize him with the elements of harmony but it none the less turned his body into smoke. And the second time he was defeated his body was shattered like taking the right hit to a gemstone. I don't think he was killed, maybe his essence was spread across Equestria so he can't gather himself up. Think of it like the Greek titan Kronos.....after his sons defeated him they chopped him into pieces so he couldn't reform to a physical state and cause harm to the world. That's could of happened to Sombra because they knew sending him into Tartarus would've been too dangerous because he could escape.....what better way to get rid of Sombra?? Shatter him into pieces so he can't reform strength.

I'm not saying Sunset Shimmer killed her duplicate, it could have been an accident. Like maybe when Sunset entered the mirror she distracted her duplicate and possibly got into a car accident when leaving the the school. No one was there to help so Sunset Shimmer hid the body and erased the evidence of there even being a tragedy.

I think Sunset can return but doesn't because she learn the lesson that Celestia was trying to teach her. Sunset's story is the classic rise of a forgotten hero.Sunset had to do something that was to be Magically impossible like hatching a phoenix? did you know once a phoenix is born it takes the colors of whoever hatched it?That would get Princess Celestia to notice sunset shimmer and offer her as a personal student.Sunset had the drive, the power and skill but she was lacking a lot of compassion. Once Celestia saw sunset being a bully she refused the lessons. The mirror happen. Sunset just got tired of waiting and took her own path. once through the mirror it closed and not to long after Sonic rainboom. Sunset knew about Twilight being Celestia's student. so she must have crossed through the portal every time it reopened.she knew Twilight were get the wings that were rightfully hers. I think Celestia hand her hooves full with Twilight. so she couldn't go after sunset.

Jokes aside I always thought it her knowing that Sunset was supposed to be her successor but she didn't want a successor. She wanted to rule forever. But overtime by watching Twilight grow and having Luna back, she was willing to hand over her position as ruler of Equestrian to Twilight. She probably also didn't know much about the mirror and didn't want anything going wrong with Sunset. Or, that she saw her own reflection in the mirror as Daybreaker (like how Sunset saw her reflection as a Princess which looked kinda evil) and wanted to protect Sunset from the mirror.

Celestia wasn't a bad teacher, Sunset was a bad student. Sunset was too curious about something that Celestia was trying to help her with for her own good. The difference there is that Twilight trusts Princess Celestia and she is patient. She likes doing the lessons that Celestia gives her, not skipping ahead.

The difference between Sunset and Twilight is that Twilight worships Celestia like a God. Sunset, on the other hand, stood up when no one else would and asked the question... "Why?" For that, she got scolded, and abandoned the ways of Friendship to find a new power. Unfortunately, she was brainwashed back to the Friendship side and lost the sense of curiosity in her heart.

Actually I think Sunset was a lot like Trixie and Twilight combined. She couldn't really make friends often and mostly stayed nose to the grindstone and hooves deep in work. She might have even been made fun of or talked about when people thought she wasn't around. She could have also been called names and hated by other ponies. Heck we don't even know who her family was and that might have been yet another barrier.

According to the comics it was the other way round. Sunset demanded that Celestia make her a Princess because she thought that it would make her more powerful, and when Celestia refused Sunset quite literally ran away. Celestia hoped that Sunset would change her mind and return so she left the portal open for her so that she could return if she wanted.

They were born with wings.* By whom exactly what this stated; as there is quite substantial evidence within the Show Canon that Flurry Heart is the first *Natural* Alucorn. Twilight and Cadence earned their Alucorn Status through Trials, of which Celestia was clearly aware as she guided Twilight upon her ascendancy; as well as being the one to bestow the title of "Princess" upon her. As Cadence gained her Alucorn status through discovering the meaning of her Cutie Mark (A Crystal Heart), it is safe to assume that both Celestia and Luna also gained theirs when they discovered they could individually Raise the Sun and Moon; as opposed to the Unicorns as a whole doing do... this also *heavily* suggests that they too were originally Unicorns, like Twilight and Cadence. On top of this we have Queen Chrysalis whom again is an Alucorn, corrupted but still an Alucorn; likely one of the first, and he denotation as "Queen" rather than Princess is almost certainly no mistake, any more than "King" Sombra (whom again was another Unicorn). In fact she was almost certainly the Unicorn Queen before she was transformed into Chrysalis; and as a note Princess Platinum' mother was Queen Crystal (throwaway line in Hearth's Warming Eve) ... which could be coincidental but what might be more notable is how Canterlot is built upon the original Foundation of Equestria, and it's Queen Chrysalis who knows about the Ancient Mining Caverns while Celestia and Luna are oblivious of them. This strongly suggests she was the *original* Ruler of said Land prior to the Ascension of the Royal Sisters. It's also of a note, how every Alucorn so far has been from a Noble / Royal House of Unicorns. And yes; this means Twilight Sparkle is of Noble Birth; but that frankly is painfully obvious given her Families Standing and Stature within Canterlot ... most notable being that Cadence is seen Fowl Sitting Twilight *before* she had her Cutie Mark; which was *before* she was accepted into Celestia' Royal Academy and then Chosen by Celestia for Personal Tutorage. In addition to this was Shining Armours acceptance as part of the Royal Guard, not just a member of the Equestrian Guard (and yeah there is a difference). When you also account for the abnormally higher Magical Capabilities of both Shining and Twilight; and you consider that Strong Magical Potential is common within the Royal Families; it does start to build a strong case that they are a Distance Relative that had the Throne remained Hereditary, that they would've been in-line and if they were directly or not is a matter for another discussion. Yet then this to raises the question about Sunset Shimmer (as well as Starlight Glimmer) ... as *if* Sunset Shimmer does have the potential to become an Alucorn, which there is clear evidence that she is capable of tapping into the power of the Friendship Crown as well as her Phoenix Shimmer form from Equestria Games (which countered Midnight Sparkle) and we already *knew* that Twilight had the potential to become an Alucorn Form. Then this in turn strongly suggests so could Sunset, *and* given that as noted we've only seen those of Royal Lineage capable of ascending as Alucorn; by all measures this would also mean that Sunset is also of such a Lineage. And if you think about it then, this in of itself ends up starting to make a lot of sense; given Alucorns were essentially Mythical Creatures that expressly appeared during "The Great Winter"; which doesn't just denote the Windigo Curse but also the Equestrian War (which is briefly eluded to in a few episodes, including one with Starlight), the Tamerak Invasion as well as the Discord Chaos Period; all of which culminating in the Celestia / Nightmare Moon "War" that began the Celestia Era. < • > It should be noted the IDW Comics aren't Canon. So anything they expand upon Canon, should be considered as part of IDW Canon; not Prime Canon. While there is no outright denotation that Alucorns aren't Naturally born... the surprise, shock and concern that the Royal Sisters have at the birth of Flurry Heart as an Alucorn and the fact that there are no official records of such; while not damning evidence against does *heavily* suggest, Alucorns are and were Artificial in their creation. Now the reason as to how and why Flurry Heart exists; actually somewhat is best explained by how in Mixed Marriages between Unicorn, Pegasus and Earth Ponies; typically what occurs (officially speaking) is the Child has the potential to be one of any of the direct lineage Pony Species... the more of a given Species, the more likely they are to occur. As such the *only* way she could've been an Alucorn is if the Genetic chance to become an Alucorn is within the Lineage of the Parents. In this case as I noted, said potential is there due to Royal Lineage... with both Parents being of Royal Lineage, this meant that their Children are basically guaranteed to showcase the traits of all three Pony Species (i.e. be Alucorns); although bare in mind it only triggers because one has already gone through the Transformation. < • > As for their Aging... well they do. In fact Luna can clearly be seen growing into Adulthood; we're also not sure of just how old Celestia is exactly, but she is definitely reasonably old at this point; and this is in part why she hasn't had students for the majority of her Reign, and within the past 18 years (which as a keynote, the 7 Seasons of MLP:FiM are over a period of 4 Years; Twilight was only 12 in Season 1 and essentially considered a "Young Adult" within Pony Society; likely puts some things into perspective). Not just with Twilight Sparkle but also Sunset Shimmer. Oh and something else you might find even more interesting; it had been 77 Years from Season 1, when Celestia Banished Luna / Imprisoned Discord... In fact the clues to this are from Equestria Girls; as the time between Equestria Girls occurs in the Fall / Autumn (4th Year of Secondary School, which is what Year 11 / 15 Years+) ... we know this because Sunset had won said Crown for the previous 3 Consecutive Years; Secondary School is from Year 7 (11 Years+). Rainbow Rocks occurs less than 6 months later; Friendship Games occurs Late Spring / Early Summer, with Camp Everfree being a Month Later; likely End-of-School Year... so like June. The "Magic" Specials occur during the Summer Break Holidays, almost immediately after Camp Everfree; in fact this is almost certainly June as well, because while the Public Canterlot High has ended for the Summer, Crystal Prep is hasn't yet with the Girls trying to raise Funds for their Fall Formal for after the Summer Holidays. As the Fall Formal was likely September to November; the entire Equestria Girls Series takes place over 8 - 10 months in total. Conversely speaking for FIM we're talking 4 Seasons, which spans approximately 2 Years 6 Months of Equestria Time. In essence we're talking 3:1 Ratio of Real-Time Difference; but this isn't how Years / Days / Weeks / Months are being counted in Equestria. Yes, they have 4 Seasons; and yes they have Days... but these are Artificially Planned and Driven. In fact there's a few shots of Calendars within FIM, which show a Month to be 3 Weeks of 5 Days. (15 Days in Total) This means assuming they also have 12 Months Per Year; this would make Equestrian Years only 180 Days (essentially half Human Years). As such if Granny Smith for example is 94 Pony Years, this would technically make her 47 Years (Adjusted) then if we account for the Time Differential between the Worlds... this comes out to 15 Years 8 Months. What might be more interesting is that this actually makes perfect sense in regards to Equine Ages. Typically Ponies (in the Real World) will live between 20 - 25 Years; now as a note a Horse on the other hand is capable of living up to 100 years, this isn't *typical* and said Horse has to be *really* well cared for; but it's possible a more typical age is 70 Years Old... although by the time they're 25-30 they're definitely towards Middle-Age. Within the Human World, we do see that Luna and Celestia are both almost certainly in their 30s; I'd actually wager that Celestia is in her Mid-40s... while Luna is Mid-30s and Cadence her Late-20s / Early-30s. We can also assume that Celestia and Luna are almost certainly the *same* age within Equestria. Now for arguments sake here I'll just say that Celestia is 45... this would mean that in Adjusted "Pony" Years this would make her 135 Years; and accounted for in actual Pony Years this would make her 270 Pony Years Old. Alright so this is somewhat *shy* of the 1,000 Moons she is said to have Reigned for; but consider for a moment that there are ~13 Moons Per Year, although in Equestria it's almost certainly 12... this would make Celestia 3,240 Moons Old; thus she could've easily have Reigned for 1,000 Moons - although with this said it seems to be a colloquial saying to denote a "Really Long Time", like how we say "Many Moons Ago" (which yeah was a very common saying, although I hear it less nowadays). Still obviously she isn't "Old" just yet, and is going to continue aging. Just from the Ponies Perspective with damn near 1/4 the Lifespan, she's going to appear to be damn near "God Like" due to her Longevity. < • > Now as a note here, the Time Differential between the Worlds and that how the Mirror Portal works, that people are instantly converted to the Age they *should* be relationally to what they are in each world (and that it's said to be Starswirl's design, whom was heavily focused on Time Magic) well this actually lends a lot of credence that Equestria and the Human World are both Earth. As such it isn't a case of different Dimensions but different Time Periods, which we can actually strongly infer here that Earth is in the Past; not Future of Equestria. Just something to think about ^_^

I am always considered the portal to be more or less a prision. It doesn't lead to a true other world it creates a pocket dimension that grows and shapes itself based on it's occupants. The residents of that world are a fabrication of the mirror but as more real beings enter into the mirror more magic spreads and develops within that pocket dimension and it becomes more real as a result.

Ms King What actually debunks it? Nothing that didn't come from Equestrian to start off has ever crossed over from that world to Equestria. Celestia and Luna couldn't be more than late thirties or early fourties in the mirror despite the fact those they mirror were born more than a thousand years before. The only reason they need exist is the Sunset expects them to. She never knew Crystal Prep existed despite being at Canterlot high as long as her friends and suddenly after Twilight comes and goes it enters the picture and has its own Twilight. There is no alternate Sunset Shimmer either but who expects to run into themselves so why would the mirror create her. Time doesn't work the same there either-the Dazzlings certainly behaved like they had been there for a bit but not the 1000 plus years they should have been. I expect they only sense a few years instead of over 10 centuries. The mirror world is just a reflection based on what it's prisoners expect. And it was never meant to have so much outside magic in it which is why it's creations are becoming more than mere reflections.

You know what would've been a really cool plot twist? What if Celestia banished Sunset to the EQG world because Celestia was secretly evil and Sunset accidentally found out? After being trapped for many moons, when the portal finally opened, she stole the crown because she knew it was the only artifact capable of defeating Celestia. (which is why she became a demon and made a zombie army as she was ready to go back to Equestria to take on Celestia) But unfortunately for her, Twilight was in her way. Sunset learned that Twilight was good inside but was just being used by Celestia, but she would never believe her that Celestia was evil which is why she accepted Twilight's friendship but never went back to Equestria because she would have to deal with Celestia's reign of terror.

What If abandoning sunset was a part of celestias plan for starlight , like , what if twilight was her pupil , became the princess of magic all so that sunset could take that role herself , or maybe that wasn't the plan for twighlight originally, but a plan she set for starlight, which means that princess celestia was the one who was impatient, not starlight , because she got there in time ... But then again she only got there because of twilight. So is sunset and starlight glimmer both twilights pupils ?

If you think about it, your characterization of Celestia here is remenisant of Superman and the Justice League's use of the Phantom Zone. Have a threat you either can't handle or don't want to deal with? Phantom Zone. Also the decision to use the Phantom Zone as a punishment by simply a majority vote of the JL founding members is more democratic than Celestia's use of the mirror but not by much. At least the JL addressed the issue of abusing the PZ internally; Celestia has no one she need be accountable to.

Sunset Shimmer's background is currently locked. Unrevealling it could change the worlds in both series, and also our worlds. I personally know about Sunset's past from other series (e.g. Sonic). Some definetly want to cover it up. Broken mirror, a million shades of light… Here's what planned for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Sunset Shimmer is the rightful heir of Equestria, their Queen. The same goes for Twilight Sparkle, who is actually Sunset's daughter. Both Sunset and Twilight's names and Cutie Marks mean Eclipse. The 'Sun' symbols/statues all over Equestria actually potrayed an Eclipse (Sun and Moon aka Star and Crescent). Long ago, Celestia as Day Breaker (Daybreak/Sunrise) killed the previous reincarnation of Twilight. This caused Day to appear, basically ending an era and starting a new one. Day finally ended when Sunset got reincarnated. Celestia pleased on seeing Sunset again, decided to take Sunset as her student, to prepare her for her future. (presumably the previous Sunset goes under the name of Aurora/Aya/Dawn, aka when Twilight occured) Sunset later on gave birth to Twilight and her twin brother. Shortly after their births, something happened to her, it transformed her. (It's hard to say on how much truth is in Celestia's sayings, because… you know Obi-Wan, right? Assuming Celestia is truthful, in short: 'Sunset couldn't get what she wants fast enough, she then turned cruel and harsh') (I would say the incident is due to a guy, aka Twilight's real father. Based on past data, I presumed he was going to be executed and she got really angry) The incident seemed to have happened when the Mane 6 are still too young to remember. Or maybe Twilight is 'older' than them, therefore maybe even before the 5 were born? Celestia later on put Twilight under the care of Night Fall and Twilight Velvet. Presumably in the hope that they will raise and teach Twilight in a much better way than when Celestia raised Sunset.
