Watching these throws in motion is beautiful. In the game they happen pretty fast so it's hard to appreciate what's physically going on. Seeing humans who aren't clipping through each other pull these off is much more impressive.

Love the games to real life theme. I wonder how effective these are against resistance.
@RamseyDewey3 жыл бұрын
Some of them are much higher percentage than others. A lot of the throws and submissions are practical moves I use fairly often during sparring. The way some of them are chained together is kind of odd and clearly done for show though. Some of the finishes are kind of strange choices as well considering the transition that preceded them, like going for a knee bar when a heel hook would be a better option, or finishing with a heel hook when a toe hold would be a better option just based on distance.

Awesome stuff! I've been practicing this game for serious competition for years now, and I was amazed with how much of it translates into real deal despite a lot of moves being unrealistic. The timing, spacing, movement, reads, evasion, baiting, stress management, reactions, knowledge -- it's all there. Although I gave up Dragunov to pick Miguel. I'd love it if you'd analyze him too, because he's one of rare characters that doesn't have a style. He's more of a thug without much of a guard or technique, but a total powerhouse of brawling experience, full of gimmicks such as the Tornado Kick of Andy Hug.

That submission is usually called a "Texas clover leaf" in bjj... but catch wrestling (and even a couple bjj dudes) have the Texas clover leaf as a similar set up. But instead of a knee bar to the bottom leg, it's actually a calf slicer to the top leg. And can even be transitioned into a Boston crab type position.

I recently picked up Tekken 7 on the cheap. Almost all of my time has been in Practice Mode with Eddy Gordo, working out small combinations to supplement my own training. There are notable differences, of course, like I'd never attempt to helicopter spam (or punch) in a roda, but video game magic aside, I appreciate some of the little nuances that they left in. It's been fun. Maybe one day, I'll do a video series but at the time of writing, it's not really my thing. On that note however, the Xplaining Capoeira channel has done a few breakdowns on the man in question and Eric Jacobus has entire series based on showcasing styles from Tekken and other fighting games.

This is sick, do you intend to make more like this? I'd love to see a breakdown of Bryan, Steve, and/or Fahkumram's attacks since they're so heavily inspired by martial arts. Small criticism: There are a few shots where feet, hips and sometimes entire bodies are out of frame - if there's space, the cameraman should take a few steps back so we don't miss anything. Otherwise, awesome video.

Not surprised you got a good idea from tekken (a few stories like that floating around), or that some have interesting unorthodox twists thrown in. The people they've brought in to do mocap over the years are the real stuff. kyokushin? Ryu narushima. Pro wrestler? Minoru suzuki. Had one of the kuro-obi gang in to do mocap for the latest character's shotokan too. They documented it on youtube and, though the devs obviously had an idea of what they wanted, it's clear it was early enough in the process that the mocap actors have a real voice in what goes on. Only a matter of time before they're up for some sanda, maybe they'll reach out haha
