I think the woman in Severn's corner was Becky Levi, a 2nd dan judo black belt, Don Frye's strength and conditioning coach and MMA fighter in her own right. She was associated with Severn and Frye at least until 2001.

Yes I was about to say it was Becky, as I remembered Severn was in her corner at the U-Japan fight...

Now, this is all just stuff I read back in the late 90s so the accuracy might be rough. Back when Dan was coming up through the high school system, many wrestling coaches regarded him as a transcendent GOAT level talent. He had an absurdly dominating high school run and many were talking about expecting him to be Olympic ready right out of high school, which simply doesn't happen (until Cejudo decided to NOT go to college for wrestling and instead head right for senior level international wrestling, which paved the way for Snyder and so on...) Then he had a knee injury. After that, many said he was never quite the same. Still, he had a damn good ammy career, but nothing really mind blowing.

Wow, when Dan wants to, he has a decent jab. Can't throw his left worth a CRAP though.

This was really an Odditie, literally i dont even know this match exist, it was good. I always think Dan was rare for the MMA world, a couple years ago UFC make some type of documental on Dan Severn UFC carrer and they interviewed him, and he say he didn't like punch his opponents beacuase his conscience told him not to do that (Severn explains he is like a good person and he didn't like make people suffer or something). For me is like Santa Claus try to be the top MMA fighter XD. I agree with you his Strinking was awful, the only time i see him as good as Coleman in groud an pound was his 2 fights with Taktárov, the firts time Severn break Taktárov with his knee and the second one with his headbutts (Severns eats Russians lol). Great as always, the interview in the final its amazing XD.

Got another RINGS oddity for you; Adilson Lima vs Alexander Fedorov (Kopylov's master), there should be a video of it somewhere on youtube (might be in Japanese).

@@nathanjonesbaldhead8523 I'm still here, just with the new baby, it's very hard to find the time right now to get some peace, you know? I'll probably be back in the new year with some new videos. In fact, I might try and do some streams the week of Christmas, since I'll be off of work (but still have to attentive to my two kids... so maybe I can get some co-hosting help?)

There’s a couple different type of sambo guys, There’s a difference between a Sambo judo guy and a wrestler Sambo wrestler guy, most eastern block Sambo players are more judo base as where Sambo wrestlers are like that Ballator heavyweight former champ Vitaly Minikiev...

6:23 Naw when needed he had great ground and pound. Against Oleg Taktatov and Tank hed blast dudes on the ground. And had overall significantly better submission offense than Coleman, his record alone shows a massive load of subs he did in comparison to coleman

this old dude kinda seem more of a Sambo judo base As evidence by him not defending the cradle in others wrestling the moves at severn and put on, If Severn would’ve have went against a Sambo wrestler I would have been a somewhat different

... the rules of Rings don't make interesting matches !!! The same matchup, but in early UFC, or Pride, or in Pancrase, who have make this match so much better. But I'm still glad to have seen this one as I really like Dan Severn. He may not have been the best of all time, as you say his punches look robotic, but his strength who doesn't look like comming from steroïds but from nature and hard work, his great wrestling level, his good personality, ... and his legendary mustache... make him one of my favourites mma fighters of all times.

RINGS rules ended up favoring whoever was winning, when no-one was actually getting a clear upper hand, it usually wasn't instantly inherently interesting
