In the early 90s, I was on a national cycling team in the commonwealth. Day 1 at 14, I was informed by team Dr's I would be getting what they called Vitamins, injected daily. During tours, the medical van would roll up beside us and we would be injected with what I can only think was some sort of speed. I never pissed hot.

Damn, they (in that case the German National team) told my uncle the same thing when they injected stuff into him. He was also underage at this time. He went on to win a bronze medal at the Olympics in Seoul in 1988 in the 1000m time trial. Of course he was also on PEDs at the time but they didn’t catch him. He only confessed it around the time of the big doping scandals in cycling in the 2000s as he wanted to shine light on the institutionalization of doping.

Funny story. I was probably given steroids as a junior cyclist (we all got shots that we did not know what it was, we were told they were vitamins) but then I got in a big crash, had head trauma and a concussion and either from that or the high dosages of anti-seizure drugs I took for years afterwards, destroyed my pituitary gland and I stopped growing at the age of 15. Now, at 44 yo, I'm finally about to start taking growth hormone, prescribed by my endocrinologist, although I'm fully aware I'm not going to get taller... that ship has passed. :) I'm 5'5" and I should be at least 5'9".

@micky2549 There was an article in SI just before the '84 Summer Olympics. In the article, it was reported that Lewis refused to be tested by Olympic officials in what is a common occurrence of "spot testing" when they show up unannounced at training sessions. It's been a while since I've read the article but I believe that the reporter wrote that the USOC alibied Lewis, or as you put it "covered" for him, but according to the international rules, any athlete that refuses to be tested is disqualified from participating in the Olympics... He is one of the best videos you guys have ever done. I love the old-school lists and everything that kind of got you started, but I love the long-term content. You did such a good job man. Cheers! Also, I think they just allow it. Fuck it have an enhanced division and a non-enhanced division. I know it’ll never happen, but I’m all for physiological improvement even if it’s super physiological. I think these are amazing and they never been in 70s and 80s the types of performance enhancers we would have today I think the research that start up again and we should see the limits that we can push the human body and the more research the more development the safer the substances could become. It’s just a matter of actually doing it. And on the weight, cutting conversation first off the person who said to do it the day of the fight that is a dumb suggestion. It would be constantly getting hurt from dry joints. People could die dehydrated like that for 15 minutes that’s a terrible suggestion. I think they should be cutting out should not be allowed. That’s the only way to fix that issue. It’s just it outright people are still gonna try to do it and you know I don’t watch your whole video on it and I don’t know how developed these hydration test but it’s easy to tell if someone cuts weight and then blows back up the day you know the day of the fight. It would also be as simple as doing your way in and then right before the flight weighing them again and making sure that they didn’t pack on a bunch of weight, but they didn’t do a weight cut. Again I think you should ban it. There’s no reason that a guy competing at 185 should be stepping in there at over 200lbs On fight day. The weight bully exist for a reason. I don’t think it’s very sporting and I hope they do away with it one day Joe Rogan agrees with me lol yeah that’s my two cents.

Watching the Seoul Olympics and all those athletes like Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Florence Griffith Joiner with their out of the world physique you could tell Ben Johnson wasn't alone.
@CaneFu6 ай бұрын
Every single top athlete at the Seoul Olympics was taking PEDs without exception and anyone who believes otherwise is really naive. However, I believe they should be allowed to and do away with all the hypocrisy.

I knew this would be fire when I was half way through. Critical thinking is key. I have zero experience in understanding steroids and I have no idea what to say. It is sad that this is prevalent in sport. Looking forward to more content from you guys!

What’s “sad” is that hormone optimization has been demonized, therefore largely ignored by society. In clinical studies, HO has been proven safe and effective to prevent, treat and cure a multitude of illnesses, diseases and conditions.

@@2K9s of course it's going to be demonized when naive people begin blasting without care the moment they get their hands on it

@@2K9s hormone optimization is still used for those reasons you listed, whats demonized its his recreative use just to boost your gym performance

Brilliant work 👏 Loved the ending sentiments particularly. I would urge you to start with it in future videos because we all know the people who think they can solve these problems simply don’t make it to the end of a video 😮

yet multiple American Olympic athletes tested positive for banned substances before the games and should never have been allowed to compete (yes, Carl Lewis was one) yet the US Olympic Committee allowed them to compete

Bud Selig is in the Hall of Fame…but the players who took substances that weren’t on the Banned list and who’s performances made baseball under his tenure explode in popularity, they don’t get the same level of appreciation. They’re denied the Plaque in Cooperstown
