In 2008, EliteXC filed for bankruptcy after giving the UFC it's first legitimate competition since the fall of Pride. But what exactly happened? How did a company that became the first the promotion on primetime television have such a swift fall from grace?

LOL facts. I remember the one, clearly faked, of a very large black man with what appears to be an eyeball hanging out of the socket after a little scrap with Kimbo, but it was like 320p or something hilarious so you can't even tell. And another video in a parking lot where he tees off on a very, very large but very, very unskilled young black kid who was maybe 19 or 20 years old at the most. And of course the famous Rich Gannon fight, where Kimbo kept getting taken down and his friends would step in and break it up every time he started to get pounded on the floor.

While it may raise eyebrows, the difference is that the UFC is never explicit that striking will earn the fighter more money/title shots and they don’t pay explicitly for a fighter to stand and bang. In fact, grapplers like Colby, Kamaru, Khamzat, GSP, Chael, Khabibb, Hughes etc have had great financial success as grapplers. And many strikers receive less money and shine than many grapplers.
