Another wrestling-MMA connection is that Shane McMahon, the son of WWE owner Vince McMahon, damn near begged his father to purchase the ufc in the early 2000s seeing the potential mma had to offer. The WWE was still riding high from their most profitable era in its history known to wrestling fans as "The Attitude era" and had a ton of money to throw around even after purchasing their biggest rivals WCW and ECW and Shane believed that UFC and MMA as a whole just needed backing from a well-known company and corporate marketing to become a mainstream sport and the price to purchase the UFC was pretty cheap. Vince being Vince chose not to make the purchase but instead created the Disastrous XFL in 2001 as a competitor to the NFL, it quickly folded that same year before being revived in 2020..... and quickly filed for bankruptcy that same year

+emanuel martinez Awesome facts, man! I was unaware of that, even though I was a big fan of both back then. Well, at least I thought I was. Granted, this was a few years before I discovered the internet. Though, I remember visitng Pride's website back in the day, must've been early 2000s, but don't remember exactly when. In fact, that could've been as late as 2004. lol

What's super interesting as well is that according to pretty much everyone that's worked with him, Shane's the best of the McMahons. Who knows what he could have done with his dad's money and a legit combat sports enterprise.

9:52 I find it very hard to believe the UFC didn’t check the contracts of the Pride fighters, it really doesn’t make much sense. You’d think it would be one of the main things they check, given the fighters are the main asset. Also one of the main things you want when acquiring another business is a smooth transition, surely they would ensure the TV deal was still in place for some time, you wouldn’t normally renegotiate new deals all of a sudden. Did Pride not have any TV deals when they were taken over?
@sebastiaan00799
@sebastiaan00799 2 жыл бұрын
I’m also very suspicious about the story corroborated by the UFC, it just seems so odd. They are a multimillion-dollar company with probably dozens of financial experts and somehow don’t realise that their deal only consists of a video library and a handful of fighter contracts? Come on. But then my question would be; why let yourself get fucked over? Did they really not know, or where there benefits in playing it off like they got scammed?

The CAF mode is top notch, there's nearly endless possibilities you can do with a fighter, you can make a super Muay Thai fighter than can nuke people into orbit with one kick, you can mix sumo with Kung Fu, it's just good fun to play if you like retro gaming.

He was good for his time, the sport was growing and it was more important to have a team that got people interested than someone who could really break down the Xs and Os, those of us that were fans at the time knew most of that stuff anyway, and the new fans probably didn't care that much. Goldberg and Rogan was familiar, made you feel like you were part of the family. But as the sport grew, the commentary needed to grow too. But that said, they way they just tossed him out like an old pizza box was fucked up beyond belief, he deserved better than that, they should have paid respect to what he did for the sport and let him pass the torch with dignity and give the fans a proper send off.

@@Jahzilla. Exactly. When you come in to the UFC like that you're either: 1) Incredibly ignorant about the sport and your own abilities. 2) Just looking to cash out 3) Flat out stupid. I'm not tryna lose sleep over any one of those reasons, but to act like he deserves all this respect is ridiculous. Have some more for yourself.

He spent tens of thousands of dollars on professional level coaching and couldn't throw a punch or grapple after multiple years of training. He disrespected sport and proved most people aren't cut out for combat sports. Just because he could act and play pretend meant nothing in competition.

Serrano vs Shields isn't a boxing bout that will happen or should happen, Claressa is just far too big compared to Amanda, so it'd be an easy one to predict without having to watch it, the only question would be how does she win, either a Claressa UD on the cards or could she actually stop Amanda as she hasn't got much KO power.

Not for profit only means they don’t retain earnings….ie, some executive(s) is(are) probably getting a huge salary. This status is easily abused (any credit union members In the thread?) and used as a way to dupe people into thinking the organization is more honest or reputable than a for profit business, which isn’t always the case.

I was always sceptical about zuffa boxing. Boxers on main events would have had to take a pay cut to be in that promotion even if undercard fighters would have gotten better pay than the already established boxing promotions. I also feel that zuffa boxing would be reluctant, if not flat out refused, to do cross promotion fights so there would be no opportunity to be a truly undisputed champion like the current boxing model offers.

Goldie was awesome! Great personality, great voice and sure his analysis was not Micheal Jordan-esq. I be always thought it was for the benefit of new fans which he did Educate. There will never be a boom like that one, when he was the voice of the UFC.
