Glover retiring in an almost empty arena, after all the violence and heart he gave to the fans is so heartbreaking, and what made it worse is that he is one of the nicest guys in all of mma, won the title at age 40 and shocked the whole world, gave us one of the best title fights ever against a killer like jiri, but his retirement was met with one of the worst fans moments ever, and it was literally in his own country he deserved better

Indeed, Aldo vs Conor was a tough one... but it made Nate Diaz' victory even sweeter, in a way. Weird to think that McGregor has lost 4 of his last 5 fights, with his only win being a gimme over a shot Cowboy. At one point he seemed unstoppable, and after Floyd & Khabib broke him he was never the same.

Even with the weight miss, I could see Figgy had him so outclassed that it would be the same result if Fight didn't miss weight. But it being in an empty arena, we could hear every single punch landed. And when he woke up screaming after getting choked out, that's when it hit home.

Watching Randy Couture tap to strikes against Ricco "Suave" Rodriguez for the UFC HW belt was another heartbreaking moment... Forrest Griffin tapping to strikes to Rashad Evans when he took his LHW title was a bummer, since he had just gotten the belt after doing the impossible and upsetting Shogun & Rampage. On the other hand, Tito Ortiz tapping to strikes against Frank Shamrock when "the Legend" won the UFC LHW belt must have been amazing for those who followed the sport back then *What's with UFC title fights and tapping to strikes? ( O_o) * Not that there is anything wrong with it, if you're done you're done, no need to take extra brain damage; tap out, go back to training, and come back stronger. It just seem to happen more often in title fights. => GSP tapping to strikes against Serra for the WW title was another sad one, but it was more of a complete shocker than a heartbreak. Cain Velasquez also tapped to strikes against Junior Dos Santos when he lost his title to the Brazilian for his first defense. Rose Namajunas made female strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk tap from strikes when she took her belt... A bit different, but BJ Penn also quit on his stool, when he challenged GSP for the WW strap, which looked bad because of Penn's constant taunting about St-Pierre tapping out against Serra, and saying shit like "I'm going to try to kill you Georges" and even right before the fight the now infamous "to teh death!!!!" I'm very probably forgetting some examples, like if we're talking outside the UFC, then Michael Chandler tapped to strikes when he lost his Bellator LW title to Will Brooks. Gee, sorry about the essay, got a bit carried away and every time I thought I was finished I'd remember another instance, and it never ended...

My personal # 1 happened earlier this year, it was Fedor’s retirement fight. I flew across the country to go watch it live, I hoped he’d win but would have been ok with just a good performance; but it was a demolition. For someone that once looked so invincible to look that outclassed was heartbreaking for me. It didn’t change my love or respect for him, but I wish he’d retired before that fight.
@adlockhungry304
@adlockhungry304 9 ай бұрын
As big as he was/is, I wonder if it has to do with money, as in actually needing it to make ends meet? Although I suppose it’s just as likely fighter’s pride. Most of our favorites just can’t quit, which is what made them great to begin with, but it sure does make for a tragic fall from grace on the back end. Fedor must be almost 50 by now, right? Anyway, he’ll forever be in my top 5 all time. Greatest heavyweight to this day, and even when he looked utterly indestructible he was one of the most respectful guys on the planet.

Tony’s lack of undisputed title fights is crushing. I HATE that he was never undisputed champion and that we NEVER got to see him vs. Khabib just once. Honestly considering how many fan favorites have lost to Volk, you could fill an entire 5 or 6 entry video on Most Heartbreaking Losses to Volkanovski. TKZ was definitely the saddest, but you also had Volk vs Holloway 3 where Max gets absolutely decimated for 5 rounds, Volk vs Ortega where Ortega came so close with that Guillotine and then Triangle Choke, vs Jose Aldo who lost in front of his home fans which essentially signaled the beginning of the end of Aldo's time as an elite fighter, vs Chad Mendes who got beaten into retirement, and most recently vs Yair Rodriguez where all the Mexican fans had to suffer through 2 Mexicans losing in Title Fights back to back. Of course, I've been a huge Volk fan for a while so none of these events made me that sad (except TKZ), but I definitely know a ton of people who were so disappointed after their guy lost to Volk.

The fact Volk was beating fan favorites for so long explains why it took so long for the fans to finally get behind him, for awhile he was actually somewhat disliked. I was a Volk fan from the offset but it wasn't until the Ortega fight, did the fan perception of him begin to change. The third Holloway bout was when he won over even his biggest critics, who couldn't deny him any longer and even in a loss to Makhachev, only served to win him more fans.

Cormier losing wasn't sad. Man had two titles, avoided the stipe rematch for a good bit, avoided Francis, and gave a title shot to Lewis who didn't even rate that high. He's also just as much of an eye poke guy is anybody else and a weight cheat.

If Tony Ferguson had beat Gaethje, Oliveira, Dariush, Chandler, Diaz and Green. If he was on a 19 fight win streak, he still would have NEVER fought Khabib Nurmagmedov. And I've finally made my peace about that whole thing.
